LOVED your reaction. You were rapt after the Lowlands part. I've never heard anything so beautiful. Must've listened to it 14 times in a row after first hearing it. It's the third song in Home Free's Sea Shanty Medley. So yes, hearing it slowed down and along with Lowlands, done in Chance's smooth AND raspy wailing voice, his subtle riffs on so many notes, completely did me in. Also, the rise and fall of the lines is like the rise and fall of waves.

Absolutely gorgeous. Adam really outdid himself, and background vocals from the Hound & the Fox....just (Chef's Kiss) I too love slowing it down into the penultimate sea shanty folk ballad !!!

I’ve had to watch it a few times to really catch everything. Instead of a drinking song, it’s now a lovely mournful ballad.

Yes Lyle, it’s a song that makes you think…….this is the first time I’ve see the video attached to it. You really have to watch it a few times to catch the symbolism. Sitting in a boat of paper letters, a rat fishing from a boat floating by, a whale breaching in the back but not being caught, a ship behind sailing right by and the lyrics of “green water that none went by”…hmmm, makes me think Johnny never made it to shore to see the love he dreamed of. Especially since he left off the last lines of, “but now we’re through so we’ll go on shore”. Just my rambling thoughts.

I absolutely love this version. As much as I love a good Sea Shanty, Chance’s tone is so amazing that it changes it entirely. I listen to this version often. The whole song is magical and sad.

Chance got rather unexpectedly asked to sub for The Longest Johns' tenor, Robbie, on the first part of their American tour when he had visa issues. Because of rehearsals for the tour and the tour, he didn't get to record the video he'd originally intended, but I love the work Cam (HF's new lighting guy) did on Leave Her Johnny and Sami did on Lowlands. Did you notice the paper boat is a folded up copy of the lyrics to "Song for Home"? I mentioned this in Chance's Discord and he simply reacted with a 👀. Maybe he wasn't expecting people to notice so soon?

I always loved the original shanty Leave Her Johnny but honestly I love Chance’s version more. His voice just brings out the emotions ❤❤ Chance just finished touring with The Longest Johns because Robby finally got his visa sorted. It was so fun to see Chance so happy in his element .

Freaking awesome, indeed. Fairly rare that we see you somewhat speechless. Have lost count as to how many times I've watched this and been brought to tears, every time, by Chance's velvety, mournful interpretation. He was born to be a balladeer. Ethereal Sami, in the lament, makes this even more melancholy.

Adam totally re-imagined this song, and it’s strangely old and new at the same time. He has a gorgeous voice and we cannot get enough of it. If there are some songs of his you haven’t reacted yet, please do yourself a favour and listen to them!

I have learned with Chance’s releases to expect the unexpected, and love it! I can’t say it enough how much I love Chance’s voice and his style of music he writes or covers. That was an expected reaction being Chance loves to surprise us at times!

The full version of Lowlands tells us that the singer's love has died (same idea as in She Moved Through the Fair) and Adam manages to convey that. The vision of Sami is so dream-like that it gives the impression of a beautiful memory. Great photography in that section. But is there anyone (and I include Austin Brown, the master of conveying emotion) who could do more than Adam Chance to bring us to tears this way? Using his "covered" voice straightaway evokes a heart full of pain, longing and weariness. If you haven't heard his cover of Pancho and Lefty, I suggest you check it out - he uses the same "breathed" voice to suggest that the very strange song is a story he heard a long time ago from an unreliable source. A totally unique voice. Don't overlook his cover of Ketchum IN. The theme, of the effect on a relationship of absence on the road, is one that people have been talking about recently and it's interesting to hear his take on the Boygenius song. Austin has released a song he recorded for a fan, Angel, which I'm sure you'll love. Another song that brought me to tears. Extraordinary beautiful

This man, Adam has so many talents. He's a world-class photographer, videographer, & all-round musical talent too. He knew to slow this down, and make it into a gorgeous lament (thanks Lieben for that word). One of my highlights in 2024 for sure. His wife Sami, has been, as it should be, a beautiful & serene influence on him...a spouse is supposed to inspire the other half to greatness, and she certainly is his muse. Just gorgeous, thanks Lyle.

I’ve been looking forward to your reaction to this! I love shanties because they all have a Celtic feel, but this rendition has overwhelmed me. It’s more of a lament, and the”Lowlands” section with the lovely Sami just takes my breath away. And the Hound and the Fox are the icing on the cake. Chance is an old soul with a real depth of spirit. He’s such an emotive singer. I’m still awaiting the release of his album. Hearing this song makes me wish even more that he’ll cover some Gordon Lightfoot songs, either solo or with HF.

That was a very beautiful rendition of this song. I like the slowed down version. What a difference compared to the Sea Shanty Medley. Chance's voice really suits this style of music.

To me, it feels like a lullaby. Such a beautiful take on this song. I'm with you Lyle, it caught me by surprise in a wonderful way. I loved the " lowlands" in the middle with Sami, taking on a dreamy like quality. My opinion. Adam Chance is an old soul.

I recall reading many years ago that a ship's captain was always "the old man" regardless of the man's age. I love the paper boat - I kept trying to read it. It's a really moving version and it's so good. Chance's delivery is perfect. #HomeFree #AdamChance
