I got called a school shooter for wearing an Iron Maiden shirt 😂 I live in alabama & it's so full of posers. This one kid in my class told me that My Chemical Romance was black metal, a girl tried telling me "Death Metal & Metalcore are the same thing", a girl told me "bring me the horizon is the best death metal band.", a teacher told me I was racist when I said I was in a black metal band (we are a satanic death metal band, but we were black metal for a short period of time), everyone tells me "why are you listening to screamo" (Playing something such as Metallica or Slayer), & got sent to the principals office for wearing a Bloodbath t shirt (Claiming it was "too graphic"). It sucks being the only metalhead here. There are some posers at my school too. There's one girl who wears metal shirts to school, such as Metallica or Pantera. I asked if she was a fan, she tells me "I only like them because they are christian bands, metal actually sucks", and this one girl was tweeting how she was a huge death metal fan, I played Cannibal Corpse & Waking The Cadaver, then she ran from me & told the school I was a "Satan worshipping fucker." (Her Instagram was covered with metalcore bands btw) There's no metalheads here, but thankfully I move in 2019 & I can get away from all these people 🙄

There was a kid at my school in a Black Flag shirt (and I love Black Flag) and I asked him what his favorite album by them was. He sat there for a minute and didn't know who they were. He said I got it on amazon. I just said "listen to Damaged and tell me what you think" now he's into hardcore punk.

I know that feeling, years ago I got on a bus and the driver had a rolling Stones sticker on the windshield, but he was playing rap. When I got off the bus I asked, "Do you even know Mick Jagger?" He said "Who" So I pointed to the sticker, he said "OH the tongue, I don't know, it looked cool"...

Yup. It really pisses me off when I get all excited to see someone with a shirt that has a band I listen to on it, but only to find out that they have no clue what it is. On the other hand, because I’ve had so many bad experiences with elitism in the metal community, I get scared to talk to other metalheads I see...

ive had these experiences with girls mostly. the emo chicks who went from rap to black veil brides back to rap. its everywhere where i live. "i love death metal *pierce the veil shirt*" kind if people are quite common. i dont even be nice to them anymore because they arent potential metalheads. 9 times out of 10 in a year or two they disregard metal all together and call it a phase

I relate to this a lot. there aren't any other metalheads at my school but there's a few emos. one of them said that her and I were the only true emos at the school. WTF? 😂😂😂 Pretty sure I'm not emo

I'm 48 years of age I've listen to tons of different metal from Autopsy , Massacre.iron maiden , Burzum, um yea freezing moon is good buddy, but gonna have to go dark throne..ha...but your young yet bro ..you seem smart..never put a potential metal head or a fan of any type of music down..if they are really complete assholes that will show on them through out there life not just in music..so chill and just enjoy your music man!

My roommates, who knew before, started treating me different when they found out I listened to stuff like Children of Bodom and Lamb of God...but I was able to persuade them I wasn't any different before by not being an asshole, haha.

In high school, I had some close friends (and still am close friends) with some people who are metalheads. We hung out all of the time. I listen to all sorts of metal. I listen to a lot of thrash, death, black, viking, power, heavy, doom, groove, and this list goes on. I listen to some other things, besides metal, too. I have a pretty broad taste in music. Music was one of the few ways that actually helped me though dealing with my anxiety and depression in high school, and still helps me to this very day.

Lol, when I was in highschool in the late 90's- very early 00's I would have conversations like this with dudes. I was into Black metal in those days, in a time when rap hip hop was king and there was no youtube. One year ago i make listened metal a my friend, he generally listen to edm and rap but he know that I like metal so he tried to found metal bands to listen, when he was at my home he make me listen to as i lay dying, but I told him that they where metalcore (i like them) so i play cannibal corpse whit him, a month ago when I was walking to the street i meet him and i saw In his mp3 on the phone cannibal corpse........... DAMN!!!!!! I didn't expect that, can extreme metal be listened even by non metalheads?? Even some metalheads can't listen to extreme metal. Ps sorry for my band English.

You know when I was a youngin (33yo now) I was literally the only Metalhead around in my town. My whole school thought I was scary but once they got to know me they were like, "WTF this guy is cooler than 99% of these normal assholes" So I started a little click but I made sure people understood and ACTUALLY liked the bands and lyrics I gave them a chance.....Some normal People really are dark and have some fucked things going on in their head if you really dig deep, Might be sick but I love the corruption of hive minds unplugging them from the system.....Had a crew of 12 kids that would go to shows and party in the grave yards with me. Those where the days........You're young man stay true to yourself and know some people are just Posers and beyond help just looking to grasp onto some kind of sub culture so that they can fit in without truly having the Mojo or frankly the discontent for humanity.

The whole point is not to judge.. Us metal heads say we are open minded , i say bullshit! So many \,,/ genres and different groups from different generations.. A fucking picture of one direction and Taylor swift :| I died of laughter. I normally do not judge someone compared to their music, but she a lover of One direction judged me for liking Mayhem( and other extreme bands) it was such an hilarious moment. I will never forget it haha. I loved the video btw. I don't have any metalheads at school, but i have a couple of emos who always stare weird at me. I started growing my hair out the winter of '16 and by the time Junior year started I had long hair. I wore my Deicide shirt the first day and this kid goes "Wow Matt I didn't know you were emo, you don't cut yourself do you?" How do you respond to that? With me im a metal head i listen to to any metal including some core bands cause to me it sounds good but i grew up more with metalcore but i do like to discover new bands from different genres

Im a metalhead who listens to mainly core but I also listen to extreme metal and one of the first encounters i had with other metalheads was with people calling me a poser and shit, so I made sure that I knew what i was talking about so even though I don't listen to a lot on that side of metal I don't say stupid shit about it. Kids like this are in my school and they're so annoying and they make a bad name for people that just enjoy core shit and metal shit and it pisses me off cause then everyone hops on that "Metalcore Hate" bandwagon and most of them just see core as a bunch of emos and scrubs where in reality, thats only a small corner of what core is. like u can't hate an entire genre because you may not like sleeping with sirens and that scene kid sound, cause you might enjoy vulvodynia's slamming deathcore sound. It's like saying all Thrash is just 0's cause all you've listened to is kerry king play guitar. So if u hate metalcore and have only heard three bands listen to something considered core that looks very different cause you might like it. (That was so long sorry)

The metal community is so fucking critical, I love the genre but I’m fuck’n scared to get involved in that scene cause poser is prob what I am. I come from a Goth & industrial music background. But I enjoy Darkthrone, Emperor, Bathory, taak etc Metal seems pretty (emphasis on seems) much a “you must be this cool to ride” type of scene. Idk I’m prob a poser too 🤷🏾‍♂️

When I was in Highschool during my Freshman and Sophomore year, there were some metalheads but were slowly dying out because my school has more kids listening to pop, kpop, paisa music, soundcloud shitface rappers, posers, and hipsters who would listen to one metal or rock song but would only listen to sad fuck music such as X, Lil Peep, and the list goes on. Well the good thing is I'm a freshman in College and I ran myself meeting some metalheads hell atleast they agree on what I've seen and went through. Hell during my first year in highschool I would get shitted on by other students that listens to narco corridos, rap, kpop and that shit music they'd make assumptions I sold my soul, cut myself, and would do something to the school.

This sort of thing used to annoy me but now my attitude is "its just music" and its cool if somone doesnt like my fave band or something. I think if somone has that guys attitude towards music they will probably have that attitude in other aspects of thier life as well and prob not worth your time.

I never put metal into genres I call it all Heavy Metal
