While I can appreciate Patrick's storytelling abilities to the point where he could make the menial task of opening a can of ravioli seem AMAZING, I have never seen someone take so long to define how they'd appreciate their questions posed/offered to them. It was a 15 minute descriptor of countless stories and tid-bits to simply say: please don't waste my time (like I'm sort of doing right now to all of you) as well as the time of all those around you by asking questions you can find online. That is an amazing (and somewhat dizzying) ability unto itself. Jump to 23:00 for the actual beginning.

I'm lost with that as well. He is obviously doing something polarising or wrong to get that reaction but im not sure. Maybe it is because people assume he thinks he is top shit based off his bluntness but I feel they assume incorrectly.

@@user-zj5oj5pi8u He's fairly well known for falling out at his fans. Calls them stupid and stuff whenever someone mentions book 3. Meanwhile he has some serious SJW tendencies, which he actively displays on twitter and at cons. I don't get him, everything he does that's concerned with his books has this undercurrent. He's actually responsible for raising millions (I mean, almost 10 million atm) of dollars through his own charity. But besides that, all he does is talk about himself and what he thinks is awesome and amazing. I's like he's actively avoiding writing the book, because he's scared or intimidated by all of the hype and expectations. Edit: This video f.e. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/oJxhosKg3J6ammQ.html is basically him talking about everything he does, except writing the book, in a video that according to its title is about his writing process. All he talks about is goats and how important water is.

@@woroGaming Did you read his books? Y’know, the ones where the main character is from a group clearly inspired by the real-world Romani people, where there’s an important character who is a bisexual sex worker and is portrayed as a sympathetic and deeply intelligent person fighting her own demons and isn’t demonized for it? The ones where the author clearly displays that “barbarity” and “civility” is entirely culturally dependent, and what one society deems “proper” is deemed by another to be “barbaric”? And you read it. And you liked it. And you’re complaining that this man is “an SJW”?

@@piemaster6512 I'm not really proud I left this comment, but like everyone on the internet, I just got a nasty flash of ego and gave into the impulse. I still feel this way when I listen to him, and it's because I reeeeally loved his first book so much that I could look past the main character's Mary Stu personality, the neck-beardy encounters with women, etc. The second book, however, lost direction and celebrated all the things I found a bit cringy with the first. I couldn't even finish it. Watching him, I see those things I didn't like about his book glaring back at me. He's just smug, and for the life of me, I don't understand why. I still love The Name of the Wind and miss the feeling I got when I read it the first time. I wish I'd never read the second.

@@insearchof______1824 he's a preacher it ain't his fault. He's wielding the imaginal and the metaphysical to move through the world. And he's made it. it's like a successful boxer who can't stop punching people I'm the face. That's how he got big he looks at the world and sees things to punch. This man's mode got him where he is, he feels no need to transform. Makes sense.

The fact that he is an a-hole as a person doesn’t mean he isn’t a very gifted storyteller, with some highly crafted and quality prose already written. The human and the artist: it’s always best to separate the two.
@GuardianKnightoftheRealm
@GuardianKnightoftheRealm 3 жыл бұрын
@@RazvanCosti I didn't say anything about him as an artist. Nevertheless, it remains for each individual to decide for themselves if the negative aspects of the human in question render their art objectionable. For the record, I don't find Rothfuss's arrogant attitude to be so horrendous as to make enjoying his books impossible, but I certainly don't look up to him as a writer in the same way that I would to someone who I admire on a personal level, like George R.R. Martin. But that is my judgment to make. There are certainly many artists whom I will not support or endorse due to their personal conduct being too far beyond what I consider to be objectionable. But again, that is my judgment to make. Its always best to let people make their own judgments, rather than presume to condescend to them what the ought to think.

When fadora neck beards acquire success why would they need to self reflection and seek transformation. He's vindicated in his success.
