An Evening with Rupert Sheldrake on Science and Spirituality: Reuniting science and spirituality for the wellbeing of people and planet
Recorded on 21st November 2019
Hosted by the Fintry Trust with the Arnos Vale Trust at Arnos Vale Anglican Chapel, Bristol
Are science and spirituality compatible? Are we on the threshold of a new understanding of their relationship?
Science and spirituality play hugely important roles in how we understand and engage with the experiences of life. However, scientific materialism has made it increasingly difficult for people to accept the ‘blind faith’ of many religions, or to believe in supernatural or spiritual realms.
Many of the world’s wisdom traditions, on the other hand, embrace the reality and power of non-material realms. And new scientific initiatives, which explore mind - body links, such as the neuroscience of meditation and its effects on wellbeing, are beginning to open new perspectives on reality.
A short introductory talk by the Fintry Trust will reveal some ancient scientific conceptions of reality, which differentiate between the ‘Above and the Below’, and which lay the foundations for a more holistic world view.
Rupert Sheldrake will then explore themes from his recent books: Ways to Go Beyond: Spiritual Practices in a Scientific Age, & Science and Spiritual Practices Reconnecting through Direct Experiences, followed by questions.
Come and explore key questions on science and spirituality - both ancient and contemporary - and their relevance today.

I adore Rupert Sheldrake, but I don’t agree on Carbon dioxid damage, as a dominant theat. The exhaustion of soil however a real urgent problem, and nobody touches it. Permacultural food production is a very spiritual solution, and saves earth, and its people.

Soul has no gender. In the dream we experience the soul. How can experience be a soul. The work of the soul is to be experienced. The soul cannot be experienced. Spiritual awaking is awaking from the dream of thought.

In matriarchic societies, at least, the usual story is that shaman dresses in woman form in this "Middle Realm", but wears male form when traveling on shamanic journeys in other realms. The soul has both genders, and all between and beyond. Soul or spirit differentiates, creates constant unqueness, explores all forms of love.

@@enantiodromiaa8589 If i may hijack the conversation, i find it very interesting that Rupert is the first person that ive seen actually provide proof of telepathy. I am very open minded but i also dislike people who only talk about vague stuff and cant really tie their theories to observable reality. I dont like bullshitters. I dont think Rupert is a bullshitter, i think he is a free thinker and he provides an explanation for some things that mainstream science doesnt, like the sense of being stared at. I always knew it was a real thing but i never had a theory of how it worked.

I remember seeing a ufo once, just a little one. I was walking home from the bus stop after an evening at the pub and i saw a light just leave a street lamp and fly away. It was so brief i wasnt sure i really saw it even five minutes later. I saw many more UFOs but only in my dreams. Some of those dreams felt very real though, particularly one where i felt the air all around me vibrating as i saw the craft appear.

The editor of Nature wanted a book burning of Rupert’s first book. So we treat prophetic scientists who open our paradigms to updating our scientific models. But for many science is an enforceable dogma.

I wish that uploaders would 'normalize' their sounds levels. I go from listening to very loud programs that are very clear to understand, to this one that at full volume I can barely make out what he is saying, above the sound of my room's air conditioner.

Thank you, Ru-Dog. Swear I heard someone call you that once. Sharing this video immediately, as there's so much healing truth in it. The future feels brighter for listening to you. Big love. This video would be slightly more enjoyable if the sound was synchronised with the picture, but that's the only criticism, might be more to do with the connection here but looks consistently out of synch. Doesn't really matter but it's a pity.

You can pray anywhere, at any time and no one else needs to know : it is your relationship with God - (however you perceive him to be) - not anyone else's. A wise man once advised to not pray in public. It is outward show, lime today's virtue signalling ; has nothing to do with God. He went on (the wise man) to advocate that you pray in private, on your own in your room with the door closed. On your own in your room (your mind) at any time you can pray without moving your mouth. The physical and psychological effects are immediate and pleasant.
