Adele has a great voice/great vibe, but during this pandemic I needed Bruno & Anderson's multi-faceted gifts of Real music, voice, instruments, smooth & comedy by way of a Retro ode to the groups from the 70s to make me smile, dance & laugh. Being Retro with a new project is Pure Genius!!! It's so good, so accurate that the Old Heads are praising it because they got every aspect Right! It's R& B but it's not only a R & B category. People from all over the world Love this album!❤

"Put On A Smile", with Bootsy's intro, reminds me of my hometown's band, The Dramatics, who dropped "In The Rain" 50 years ago, around this time. I watched them performing it on Soul Train back then. Bruno, on this album, reminds me of how Smokey Robinson used to sing back then.

This should have had music videos for every song.Especially 777! Seeing Bruno and Andy goofy af in Vegas in 70 clothes would’ve been 🤩🤩

And that old skool bass riff in Fly As Me...Ohhhh weee!! Oh my days. I've just reached Put on A Smile. They have written a whole epic story in this one track. This album might be the definition of All Killer No Filler.

Anderson .Paak is an excellent rapper! You should check out his Tiny Desk on PBS performance of his material. It’s not acoustic but it is stripped back. His drumming is so good!

If you like the grittiness, real soul, and funky sounds of this album then you will LOVE Anderson .Paak’s music. Especially his album “Malibu”. It is a MASTERPIECE of funk, soul, and rap. You’re only getting a sliver of that on this album. Still very good though.

The first time that I listened to After Last Night, I found myself humming in certain parts of the song and I couldn't really put my finger on it until later. It took me back to a group by the name of The Average White Band and a song they recorded in the mid seventies called "A Love Of Your Own...... I loved that song then and still listen to it in 2021...

I just listened to this album for the first time Sunday. I was SHOCKED to read the reviews online, primarily the Ringer, Washington Post, and some others that gave this album a 7 or a 6.4. Insanity.

I'm hearing The Isley Brothers on Blast Off, especially when the guitar solo drops. I did hear a chord progression that was pure EW&F. Can't fault the pedigree of Silk Sonic. This track is fire. Not sure if this album is way too short or if they are right to leave the audience wanting more.

Silk Sonic doesn't qualify for Album of the year at the Grammys 2022,because the cutoff date was September 30th. They'll be up for Song and Record of the year for 'Leave The Door Open' in 2022.

Great insights on this video. You pointed out a few things that I hadn't picked up on before. It's great how you single out some of the vocals and replay them, and sing a bit - it really highlights some of the interesting lines. I'm waiting to see about the mass appeal though. I'm 100% with you that the 70's vibe and the references to classic funk and soul combined with the modern is great, but there are people criticizing it for not being original enough. I really hope people give it a full listen and really dig into it because this album is deep.

I'll be totally honest. THIS is the sound I've been waiting for! I've been so sick of the same old BS rap sound for the last decade with shallow ass lyrics, shit loads of auto tune and no real progression in the genre. And you and everyone else can hate me for that and that's fine, it's one guy's opinion. But frankly I've been WAITING for REAL R&B to come back for about oh, what. 20 years now?!? Well it's here and I agree. ALBUM OF THE F**KING YEAR. Adele's new Album would TOTALLY DESERVE to win too, if this MASTERPIECE didn't release. Sorry Adele, but this white and nerdy boy says you need to accept 2nd place. (A DAMN SOLID 2nd place, but 2nd nonetheless) Every damn track on this album gives me goosebumps from head to toe. It's TRUE musicianship at it's very finest and you can't deny the throwbacks. That Soul Train era sound is just all over this thing. Four Tops, Delfonics, Temptations etc etc... I mean you can't tell me any one of these tracks couldn't have played in the middle of a Soul Train ep. and fit RIGHT IN. It's brilliant! I'm a rock guy at heart and there's one album universally known as a 'PERFECT' album front to back top to bottom and that's Boston's debut album. Every. Single. Track. is played on the radio to this day on classic rock stations. This is R&B's Boston album. EVERY TRACK IS A FUCKING HIT.
