@@janetownley very nice analogy, Patty. So nice to see young people picking up on sharp satire and intelligent political humor. Good job raising them. I'm ancient, but older friends turned 15-year-old me onto Lenny Bruce and gave me a life long love of political humor. Kids don't really want to zone out on mindless gore like Grand Theft Auto #376. So much healthier to follow these real-life stars riffing on social humour and moronic politicians.

Yes!! I said the same thing to my boyfriend the other day. I'm going to miss hearing Evie in the background laughing at his jokes. They are so sweet. I also love the way he interacts with Evie, they clearly are truly happy together - Stephen Colbert (after Seth Meyers) is my favorite on late night & Evie is a big part of the reason the show is so great during this pandemic. 14:35 - "Pretty good" is an understatement from Stephen about his current work load. He does new shows Mondays thru Fridays, however Friday editions are always pre-taped on a Thursday alongside Thursdays edition, meaning Stephen gets Fridays off. 200 shows a year means roughly 10 weeks vacation breaks, so compared to normal people, along with a $15 million salary, Stephen is doing fantastic!

The “gianting” process that accompanies stardom is hard won for this blade. Sharpest wit in the land. Easier for a Southerner to go west than a Cali’n to go South.. keep up the great work SC.

. Okay. I really hope the right people see this and do something with this. . I have just seen the Google interview and I must go back to others that I need to collect in one place. . I have taken to looking for these interviews with Steven Colbert, collecting them and paying close attention t them. They are like lesson packed lectures and I learn so much from them. I have decided, Mr. Colbert, that 1.) these interviews should be collected and packaged for college level instructional purposes and/or 2.) they should be the basis for a textbook for theater, public speaking and related arts. . The thing that makes these work that way and so well is how insightful and self aware you are about what you are doing and feeling and how well you articulate those things to the point of finest nuance. . This is valuable stuff. . Is anyone reading this? Is there anyone in the entertainment field that could do something?

Pete Holmes / Stephen Colbert AND "Tte 700 Club Gone Awry" William Paley AND "Would Immediately Renew Gunsmoke For Another 20 Years iIf Brought Back From The Dead" Note: this joke is an exprewsion of love & respect. It is modled off of a recurrring gag that the show does nightly: picture of said person AND "what they resemblein the photograph". That was awesome. Love Colbert; his humor, & perspective. The 'John Ritter-ish' Pete Holmes was the perfect host.

'... I don't think what I'm saying is important, I don't think it's gonna change people's minds (38:00), I don't think I'm a political player, I don't think I should be taken seriously, but I do think I feel seriously about what's going on in the country... and I'm there to make everybody feel better, to know that they're not alone in that feeling.' If we could just internalize all of that, we'd all be better off, be on the road to recovery, on our way toward amicability, capability, rationality and progress. We'd give our politicians more breathing room to be responsive, make fewer enemies, let people speak their minds, get others to hear our points of view, be less paranoid, less untrusting, less resentful and lots more charitable. What's keeping us from reason, common sense, unity, risk-taking, intellectual curiosity, optimism, opportunity and productivity is ourselves, not our leaders; they're reacting to us. Honey attracts more flies than vinegar; the system's never going to improve, will never be given the attention it requires, unless we allow people to focus upon what needs to be done and make our messages more inviting, less biting, rather than constantly giving leaders fodder for their excuses, excuses for not focusing on the tasks set before us. Foster agency, expectations naturally rise, humility increases, hubris dies, respect replaces contempt, equity is earned, people work with you, good occurs. Look no further than John Lewis for the example. Giving up on changing people's minds is perhaps the greatest takeaway from this quote; we abandon that pursuit, people don't have to, nor would we want them to, as their perspective greatly strengthens our own. Could be, in passing, Stephen solved our present, most pressing problem nearly two years ago.

This was an excellent discussion. I might suggest to Pete that he allow the guest to answer the question fully before interjecting with his own story. I know this was probably more about anxiety or interview style than anything, but it can come across as off-putting. No offense.

He does that some on his podcast, too. It really doesn't seem like it's him being consciously rude or even obliviously self-absorbed, more just something he's not super good at modulating. Pete's really knowledgeable and insightful on a broad range of subjects and is full of interesting anecdotes based in thoughtful introspection. So much so that he's oozing with it, and is sometimes not highly adept on tactfully interjecting it in conversation --not even majorly so, but it does seem to at least be a mild thing from time to time. ~~~ Colbert has had a bad habit, himself, of doing this with guests on his own show, in the first year, at least. You could tell it's just him trying to balance letting the guest talk with throwing in enough good banter and levity. ~~~ I do this myself sometimes, as someone with Adhd coupled with having a fairly large amount of knowledge andof a certain range of subjects on my mind about a wide range of topics, with *a whole lot* of ideas, often beyond just superficial, about a variety things (sometimes quality and worth sharing, others mayyybe not). So, I can totally see how someone could sometimes have that flaw without it being rooted in rudeness or some other real vice.

If you watch clips of his old talk show, The Pete Holmes Show, he used to be MUCH worse at the interrupting. You could tell it was from a place of genuinely being excited to talk with his guest, but it was still noticeable.
