Very clever telling the tale from the killer's viewpoint so I thought there was a 4th guy hidden in the woods. His fear at being with Sean & feeling nervous at Seans size. Lotsa red herrings to confuse just like M. Night Shyamalan would do. Certainly confused me! Great story Mr. Ballen 👌🏻

I've grown up running around the Blue Ridge Mountains all my life camping and hiking. I also grew up with all the horror stories of the Appalachian trail. And there are a lot that the general public doesn't know. There's a few us locals don't have answers to. I avoid the Appalachian trail as much as possible because of the things I've heard and know. There's plenty of other trails that although clearly not as long and famous but that's the point to. This crazy Smith guy is still a boogyman tale here that visitors don't take seriously and some think it's just a ghost story. But people like me stay far away from Dismissal Creek. I feel completely opposite. I love this channel, but i feel basically this was a lie just to make this story intersting. He basically lies when telling the story, so its a "twist" at the end. Normally this a a true crime channel. but this was like he turned it into his own movie, wasnt true at all until the end, which I found to be annoying. To each his own i guess.

15 years and parole after murdering 2 people…?! The justice system in this country is completely broken. It’s a miracle that the 2 men survived when they could’ve easily been two more murders. I hope these 2 men sued the hell out of the state for releasing this man.
@loverlyme

Added to the unbelievable justice system you guys have to put up with- the mental health system is even worse! If your mental health system was in some sort of reasonable shape, Ricky would have been shipped off to a mental health secure hospital years before this. They may not have been able to 'cure' him but at least wouldn't have let him out until he was mentally stable. He seemed to be pretty good at fooling people and keeping it all under control though- he managed to live with the ankle bracelet for a decade first!

That was creepy. Also creepy for me as in 1977, I was 11 years old, my Dad was Navy and our Navy family met at the Great Dismal Swamp to camp for a weekend. I was fishing on one of the docks there with other Navy brats my age and I forcefully cast my line into the water (unintentionally throwing myself into the water) and almost drowned. This story brought back that memory. Not really related, but the place. I’ll never forget being underwater, not knowing how to swim and seeing eels or snakes swimming to the top of the green looking water as I was submerged. I’ll never forget that day!

Oh I love Mr Ballen, especially in middle of nights when insomnia has me tossing & turning- despite stories being freaky, his voice just calms me.. there's a few channels that copy him, but the original is definitely the best! Gotta ask if Mr Ballen has Italian roots but, cause he speaks with his hands so much! Glad he got out of military service intact, respect that he fought but us Aussies will never understand how or why US sends troops to unnecessary wars.. 🥺
