It feels like every man and his cat have a sponsorship on youtube, but how do they actually work? Where do creators find them? How much money do they get? How do you work with a country's tourism board? Well here's a full breakdown of all these questions and more (except for the money one, I just added that one in for SEO)

I was always curious how sponsorships work so thank you for making this! Overall I really don't mind when KZfaqrs do sponsorships because I know they gotta make money but I hate when KZfaqrs make a whole dedicated ad video and pretend it's genuine content. An example is one of my favorite travel vloggers just uploaded a video today that should have been on a really interesting topic but the entire thing was about this piece of equipment she was advertising and barely even discussed what the video was supposed to be about. I think when creators think they're being sneaky about ads is what irritates me the most. Your viewers aren't dumb and would rather the transparency than feeling like we're getting the wool pulled over our eyes. I also prefer when ads are put at the end of videos instead of the beginning. I always watch videos through the end no matter what but I lose interest in the video if the first bit is an ad. Like make me feel like enduring the ad is worth the content of the video, y'know?

I actually really like how you don't try to be too well-prepared and polished (like finding out how things are spelled right before taking the video and other stuff) because that's what makes your videos realistic. The same goes to the bloopers. It's great that you don't cut the "bad" parts but let them stay. Having watched a ton of other youtubers, the authenticity in your videos is refreshing!

i think a couple of years ago people got really upset when youtubers took sponsorships calling them sellouts and fakes etc. nowadays everybody is all YAS GET THAT MONEY GORL and i'm here for that. we sit here and consume all of this free content that takes creators HOURS and DAYS and WEEKS sometimes to create. i've spent some time editing and filming a few of my own videos ( they are terrible bc i'm still learning and editing is hard (but fun!) ) so i feel ya on how time consuming it truly is! so i love when i see my fave youtubers getting sponsorships! it helps support the youtuber and the content. i love it 💗

Advertising when done tastefully, with your audience in mind as you deliver the ad can be quite nice, depending on the sincerity and reputability of previous sponsorship that the KZfaqr has done in the past. For instance if you were sponsored by a company you didn't like/care about but wanted the money/product -(GFUEL & livestreamers, lookin' at you) - then it might not be taken as lightly in the future even if the new sponsorships are sincere and you do believe in them. You're getting really good at integrating sponsorship's and I find myself enjoying learning about options I didn't know about from your channel (like creating a website on squarespace). You have high quality content and have worked hard to build up your audience and reputation, so it wouldn't make sense to be reckless with who you give airtime on your channel to. Keep up the work, I like the direction your channel is going and your energy as an influencer is now. :)

Almost at that 200K 😻 I think it's really great that many people can use KZfaq as a free space to share nearly anything they produce. Since you spend so much time and energy to create so much videos and content, it's only fair that you get can sponsors or KZfaq ads in return (after doing paperworks and actually getting sponsors...). I don't mind watching the ads or sponsors since since it is still a free website, to support your informative or entertaining or art content. HOWEVER, I think it's annoying when some KZfaqrs only get tons of makeup or other things free from companies because then it's too forced and unnatural to hear them constantly mention the free products as a sponsored product. It's kinda cute (and interesting) when my middle school students say they want to be a KZfaqr bc they could get free stuff...hmm
@CurrentlyHannah
@CurrentlyHannah 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I could see where that would get annoying. If you're only talking about one company then they've pretty much turned into a spokesperson and don't really make the content they set off to make. And lol to the kids wanting free stuff haha it's and understandable desire though. Unfortunately, there's no such thing as "free" haha
@FixItOnTheWay
@FixItOnTheWay 4 жыл бұрын
Nice job. The bloopers were great. My thoughts on creators and advertising is that it's necessary...because it costs money to create. Sponsorships are the most annoying form of advertising because the creator has to talk about the product/service. That means there is no separation between the creator and the brand. It gets personal, so we land up hating both the brand and the creator. Whereas with a simple pre-roll ad we can focus our hate entirely on the brand. Also, the brand usually wants final cut on a sponsorship video, which encourages the creator to play it safe. So what happens is that the creator makes the overall video boring...and then makes the sponsorship talk extra boring...and then the audience starts clicking ahead on the video to skip over the sponsorship part. And then we miss parts of the video that we didn't intend to. The bad part about KZfaq and advertising is that the audience acquires the habit of clicking around the video to skip the ads and sponsorships. Or the audience uses ad blocker software. It's not good for the creator, audience, brand, or KZfaq. I think it's possible to seamlessly integrate brands into a video by letting the creator find a subtle solution that works best for their specific audience. But KZfaq and brands don't like subtlety or relinquishing control. They like to hit the audience over the head with an advertisement...like it was 1950. Creators know the audience best and respect them because their lives depend on it. KZfaq and brands neither respect the audience or creators. They respect the shareholders, banks, lawyers, accountants, and money. Everyone's just a number in an equation.

Yeah a good analogy I heard from my brother once was, it's like a guy standing on a street corner, giving away free hot dogs cuz he liked doing it and thought it was fun, then one day he realised he was losing money and couldn't work elsewhere cuz he was spending so much time giving away hot dogs so he decided to charge a few dollars for them instead. Everyone lost their minds and were like, "What the hell man!? These used to be free!! F*** YOU!" and then left. Fin.

Super interesting, I love these topics. I think that, if watching our favourite creators for 5, 10, 15 seconds more while they mention a sponsor or product, is payment for high quality content, painstakingly put together for our pleasure, then we're getting off really, really cheap! A lot of 'consumers' are so spoiled by the endless streams of content, they easily forget where it comes from or are ignorant about what it requires to produce. Also: Vacuum cleaners - the KZfaqr's Kryptonite! :D
@CurrentlyHannah
@CurrentlyHannah 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree. I remember watching some live to air TV recently and I was shooooocked by how many ads there were in it, yet no one stopped watching it because that was the norm. Now it’s normal to avoid ads in your streamed content so when there’s an integration it can be a little jarring. There’s also the added fact that the ad is linked to a persons face and brand that you respect and if not done rights sometimes it can go against what they represent.

As someone who has watched his fair share of travel vlogs (especially Japanese ones) this cleared up a lot. It makes a lot of sense for one or two person channels. But I still can't quite figure how some channels with offices, plenty of staff and relatively modest view counts can make a living out of these kinds of deals.
@CurrentlyHannah
@CurrentlyHannah 4 жыл бұрын
Yes there’s a lot of tourism board jobs going around for creators in Japan as their tourism is on the rise and they wanna advertise to “western” audiences. I don’t mind doing them cuz it’s basically the same as my usual content except I get paid haha also it allows me to really see/show the best that that area has to offer as it’s a guided trip but it’s definitely more fun/easier to travel there without a sponsor.

How many times did you accidentally spill your fake tea in frustration? :p The things I love about creators and sponsorship is when they are honest about why they are doing it and try to keep it short and sweet and interesting as well. The ones I hate are where they just pop an ad in without warning as if it is part of the content or just pretend that it is a product that they use/play etc when truthfully until now they have never expressed interest in anything remotely like that. Adverts help my favourite content creators continue to make fantastic content and I'm happy to support them. Just don't try and be sly with the advert as that will lose them a sub. As always cheers for the content. Hope you have a nice cool Xmas, unless you are coming back to Brissy... then suffer through the heat with the rest of us. :p

When did you start filming? Any tips for learning how to get the best shots and camera techniques? Would love to hear!

I'd like to second. Hearing about your creative history (non performer) would be interesting. Plus I'd love to hear tips about developing your eye and who you watched (besides Casey).

I was wondering about this too. But it’s hard starting out to grow your channel.

Love the out takes Hannah. I watch you, Sorelle & Matt Deavella. I don't mind mind the ad sponsorship as you need to make a living too, right. Motchi doesn't buy it's self. :)

Is there a chance you could make video on living and working in Tokyo/Japan vs. Singapore? I've been to both places, but it was only one week tourist visit. And I've read a lot of crisis in Japan since depression in 1995. Is it still visible in some parts of Japan?
Okay, you don't NEED this stuff to make good videos but it helps.
