I take a look at the newly released Project Cars 3. A game that while not really like either of it's predecessors, still has plenty of fun aspects to it.

There's definitely a market for Grid / Shift sort of games and that's a good thing. I guess it's a shame that they tried to emphasize that it's a Project Cars 2 successor. I don't think it would be stupid if they went down a Codemasters path with DiRTR and ran 2 series concurrently, a more simulator focused and a more arcade one

People hate on teh game because it became more of a simcade, but there are a lot of seriously good sims out there and not even remotely that much good arcade racing games, and i am just happy to see a nice new arcade-ish racer. Update: using the name of an established franchise\game and make a diffferent game is a shit move, most wanted 2012, which isn't a bad game, showed that well
@thomascortes968

It's mainly because people were expecting A and got B instead, which is fair enough. The Project Cars series has geared more heavily towards sim racing. If we shift the standards and say "Is this a good simcade game?" then you have to judge it by that. I think in true project cars fashion it's "decent" by simcade standards.

@@thomascortes968 I Will agree that naming the game Project cars was not the best idea, just like naming Most wanted 2012 "Most wanted", But despite that, I honestly want people to judge at least a little more on quality rather than just being disappointed that the game didn't meet their expectaions. I can imagine any unreleased new game to be whatever i like, and i don't think getting upset if it doesn't meet my expectations is right if the marketing for the game didn't openly lie about it. There is just too much hate the game doesn't deserve.

Fun is something that novelty always generates. Here’s the rub... will it still be fun in six months’ time? Or will the grind and the bugs and the lack of any more advanced motorsports detail eventually take the shine off of it? PC2 players put up with unfixed bugs for three years because honestly, on console (the much bigger demographic) there was no better option. Still isn’t, really, because a one class sim don’t get the job done, IMHO... But I doubt the casual players will be as patient. They got options.

Definitely seems like Alex is having a mighty amount of fun lol, and that’s how games really should be judged. The game’s biggest flaw really is the fact that it’s project cars 3. Consumers are going to immediately assume it’s going to be a sim game because it’s a project cars game. If it was called something and advertised as “by the same people who made project cars” I feel like it’d be less unfairly judged. It definitely does seem like a new NFS shift or Grid game and slides well into the more simcade category, and since forza has been pretty stale since FM4 all in all it may well be best in that class of games really. The sounds too, the sounds are good. I suppose all the hardcore sim guys won’t like it, but it seems mighty fun. Definitely considering it once I’ve fixed my pc that’s for sure.

Having driven fast cars on track with proper track tires I can say this game looks more real than the community thinks, I’ve tried most other “sims” and can’t stand them, the cars feel like driving on icy rain with no grip. I actually want to buy this one I think. And also real cars definitely bob around after launching off of curbs, I’ve done it plenty of times, bent wheels, thrown out alignments etc, it’s not like a small bump like people seem to think. The biggest problems these games have are the people that critic them haven’t actually been on track in a car.

Dan Carlos Agreed. I have limited experience in cars but tons in karts and I absolutely agree. 90% of sim games don’t give the right feeling of grip. The biggest drawback to this game with me are the wonky car classes and the lack of pit stops and wear. Other than that this game genuinely looks pretty good

@@dancarlos1216 I feel like the real problem is the sense of speed in sims, irl you feel like are going along at a quick clip when you toss it into a tight corner at 30mph in a miata, but in a sim slowing to 30 feels like you are barely crawling along. I know it took me a sec to get used to but when you look at how fast certain cars can get around corners in game vs irl, the grip seems to be more correct than you would think. Also fov plays a huge role

@@dancarlos1216 I have the game. I play with a wheel/pedals in cockpit view with no assists on (I turn on ABS on modern cars, since they have it). While it is more arcade, and the biggest change is that the brakes are too good, it's nowhere near as arcade as people seem to portray. I definitely rank it as "more sim" than Grid Autosport, which was already less aracdey than the other Grid games. In PC3 you can't pull the handbreak in racing cars and expect to slide through a corner. You can slide, but you have to do it moderately, and you can easily spin. The biggest improvement from PC2 to me is the AI cars and how crashing into them doesn't upset your car as much. The AI is still not great, but you can race door to door and bump into them without your car getting upset unnaturally and then get sent to the shadow realms, like you would in PC2. I can't count the number of times I had to restart a race because an AI car nudged me slightly and sent me off to the nearest town. So racing against AI (once you find the right difficulty for that particular track) is much more enjoyable!

After all the other reviews and information I've seen, I was disappointed. The UI is like a generic racing mobile game, the arcade super easy corner goals, and many other things that are not "Project CARS". The final nail was how AI could go through corners faster than physically possible for the player (that being shown in higher-level cars and painfully obvious in the last corner at SUGO). Now seeing the extent of the track and car lists, it makes me more and more disappointed. They had such a good track and car lists and it just doesn't hit any mark. It never should have been called Project Community Assisted Racing Simulator 3, they didn't even have Community Assistance (otherwise this would have been an actual sim). If it was called something different then maybe (minus the AI driving on a totally different level of physics) I would have considered getting it, and it wouldn't have alienated the Project CARS community. It will still get that cash grab and "commercial success" it wants but it will likely be tossed aside when the next Forza or Gran Turismo comes around.

I believe Slightly Mad Studios (SMS) are owned by Codemasters now... And Codemasters are the makers of the GRID series, so this game is definitely reminiscent of the GRID games, especially with all the graphics, menus, and U.I. I do definitely see a lot of GRID in this, you could almost call this game a "GRID 4," in some ways. Supposedly, Electronic Arts (EA) is going to be purchasing Codemasters, and therefore Slightly Mad Studios, in the first-quarters of this year... So it should be interesting to see what the next Project Cars game looks like, especially with the EA collaboration. EA and SMS did originally collaborate on the Need For Speed: SHIFT series of games and they were actually really really fun... Quite underrated I must say, but super fun. Should be interesting to see what an EA, SMS, and Codemasters collaboration will look like... Since EA are the makers of the Need For Speed series of games, SMS are the makers of the Project CARS series, and Codemasters are the makers of the GRID, DIRT, and F1 series of games.

Assuming Project CARS 3 is more of a simcade experience like Need for Speed: Shift compared to the first two Project CARS games, and since it seems to have a single player career mode, I'm considering buying PC3 for PS4, which I've had for two years but for which I still don't have any driving games.

I actually like what they did with this game. I understand that diehard Sim fans may be a bit miffed at the changes, but let’s face it… Sim racers are in the minority as far as gamers are concerned. Meaning, if these guys wanted to stay afloat and be able to make and continue to make games into the future, they have to essentially mold their games around the highest common denominator. In other words, a game that’s going to sell well enough to warrant a publisher taking another chance on another one of their games. This game fixed the control and physics issues with the second game and also cleaned up the visuals a lot. Which is tough to do when you have so many cars and so many tracks. Yes they had to lessen the amount of both in order to do so, but it was worth it and it’s not like they couldn’t add those back with DLC. The career mode is a lot of fun and overall they took a game that was a bit bland as far as Gameplay was concerned and turned it into something that even a novice to racing games could pick up and play. While still offering a great experience for the more experienced gamers. I think overall they struck a good balance, without leaning to far in either direction. It reminds me of a mix between Gran Turismo and GRID. And can be adjusted to lean heavily towards one way or the other, as far as Sim or arcade... it’s definitely a step in the right direction for the series, Especially if they were hoping to draw more players towards the game. Which I’m sure they needed to do to continue.

I don't think Alex's struggles with the BMW at Sugo were entirely down to lack of familiarity with the car. Jimmy Broadbent mentioned in his review that on higher difficulty settings on some tracks, the A.I clearly have more speed and grip than the player (I think the clip he showed to demonstrate this was of Sugo, too), and it did definitely look like the A.I could take corners faster than Alex could, even when he got the line right.

I can't count the number of times I had to restart a race in PC2 because an AI car bumped into me and my car was sent to the shadow realms. Not so in PC3. You can fight door to door with the AI and still stay on the road. It's so much more fun just because of that!

I adore the way Forza feels so taking that into consideration, out of Grid and Project Cars 3 which one would you recommend to someone like me?? All I’m really interested in at this point is good racing on great track lists with many proper race cars. My favourite racing disciplines are GT3/GTE, Group C, proper JGTC like what we had in Forza 3 and 4 and the Silhouette racers or what Forza considered the “GT Racing Reborn” division with all those glorious IMSA / JGTC-esque style cars as well. Bonus points if one of these titles have the proper E46 M3 GTR racecar. Just really wanting to scratch that itch since Forza 3 as not many racing games have successfully been able to do that. Any and all input is greatly appreciated I tend not to buy new games very often anymore hence why I guess I’m asking here 😅

Project cars 3 because grid 2019 is disappointing. The physics make you spin randomly on controller and the game gets boring after a while. Whereas the physics in pcars3 seem to be much better. Also the career mode seems to be more engaging with the upgrades and side objectives.

Definite solid NO for me. Problems as I see them: Vehicles clearly 'over bricked' at standard setup. Jump around horrifically, especially under breaking. AI is far too dumb. Overzealous beyond belief and punish for things that the AI cars do worse to you. Identical cars clearly just cruising past as if with 20% + extra power at times and it obviously not being due to prior driver error. imho if this is a finished product then it's not finished

So basically this is the 1998 Godzilla movie in game form. Fine in a vacuum, but not for what it's named after. You might think the name is okay, but I really don't. The CARS part of the title is an acronym, and the S stands for _Simulation._ They lost the most important simulation bits in the name of "accessibility" when in Project CARS 2 you could just turn off most of what they took out entirely if you didn't want it. You can't even overheat your tires anymore, for Christ's sake. This game has no right having the name it does. It should have been a GRID game.

It looks fun, but good lord calling it a direct sequel to a hardcore sim is dumb. Puts off the sim community as they see the simcade physics and don't care for them/condescendingly call it "dumbed down", and puts off the arcade/simcade community as they see the Project CARS name and think hardcore simulation, not the arcade foolishness they want. Compound this with the PR team just being stupid assholes who insult the community and call removing features "innovation" and I don't see it selling well. I'll probably give it a go myself, since I feel there's a lack of good arcade/simcade games lately.

Project Cars 1 and 2 with wheel or controller required literally hours of control settings adjustment to make the downforce cars (GT3 primarily) remotely drivable.
