An hour spent at Ipswich watching a few anglia trains and a container train passing through
Hoping to film a bit more here over the next few weeks

Also the only newer passenger trains that I know that don't need wheelchair ramps as most platforms are level with the trains which is brilliant

I can remember 03s and 08s on the occasional trip down to the docks via the lower yard sidings in the 80s. There was quite an extensive rail system on the docks until the 1970s and you can still see the odd bit of rail down there to this day.

Interesting. I recently bought an orange-livered OO gauge Bachmann model of an 08 shunter purely because it's currently plying its trade at Ipswich.

1:40 Yes, that's a bi-mode unit. You can tell them because they have the half-length windowless carriage that contains the engines, as at 1:56. That platform's used for the Felixstowe and Lowestoft trains, so your first guess was reasonable. 2:10 No idea if they still fuel locomotives at what you call the old fuelling point, but there are often a couple of 66s parked there, unless they've changed that in the last couple of months. You get a decent view of the VMF from passing trains.

I used to work in Tees yard, not far from Durham. At one time it was a huge marshalling yard with a hump but now it's almost all gone.

Brilliant vid Bri, you're in my territory!! You should try the Felixstowe branch line you get plenty of freight, or Stowmarket but that is a slightly biased opinion!

The repeater was uaed heavily by the guards on the hauled trains as they dispatched from the back of the train and could see the train had the road before despatching. I havent been to Ipswich since u moved up north. I must pay a visit to the region again this year

According to Open Street Map (the best for showing rail lines) that bridge was to Ipswich docks. Keep the videos coming.

You can see the rails still on the bridge on Google maps. The line used to cross the the road where the entrance to the VMF is. As said it then used to go to the docks, but I don't think are any old rails visible any more as the dock/waterfront has completely modernised

I believe that line is the abandoned Ipswich Docks line. Does what it was called went around the docks. Closed in late 80s or early 2000s i think due to Felixstowe taking away a lot of its traffic. Only a short 1km spur of it left that rarely gets use.

This is my local station so was interesting to see you here. My daughter has been working near Crewe for the last year and I've driven on the Shavington bypass a number of times so know Basford Hall a bit as well.

Living in Suffolk, I can say that the new trains have transformed the services in East Anglia. It's just a shame that so many of the branch lines no longer exist.

Those 755's may be the mutts nuts but to me they are cold, soul less things. I liked it better when we had the class 68 diesels running from Lowestoft.

@annatrindall9829 I can relate to that. I grew up in South Wales and from time to time in the 1980s, 90s & 2000s the usual DMU services on one of the Valley Lines was replaced by class 37 hauled trains. Lovely!

Somewhere very close to the hotel where you are Brian they use to have a train crossing with those lovely white wooden gates many years ago until late 80s which would run round to the bridge taking them to the Ipswich docks how much of the crossing on Ranleigh Road is still visible I'm not sure but it's very close on the road you're staying on

Ipswich for 3 weeks....lucky you. Training course? I think the old stabling point is now used for units when not in use. I had the pleasure, or should I say dis-pleasure of going on one of those new units from Liverpool St to Ipswich. Again, modern plastic crap that are not very comfortable at all. Still, things like comfort aren't on the top of the list of TOC's now. Those days are long gone. I feel sorry for commuters today.

 I live along the Great Eastern Mainline and use the trains every few weeks. They seem fine to me -- no complaints about comfort, and London to Norwich is only two hours, so it's not like you're on them for long.

Hey, I saw 4M87 earlier today at Penkridge and wondered why 90014 was with 90013 tonight - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/e6xlh8Rj0czIp6M.htmlsi=uz0vEzEzUM0mCpyU - instead of 90004 as they were only last week - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/nr1keN2dvKqZoKM.html - and this got me wondering how the 90s are paired up and for you guys (Freightliner) what determines the splitting up of working pairs ... especially given yours seem to run like clockwork, compared to that of other operators 90s in times gone by ..
