Actually the Polikarpov I-16 was developed and introduced in the mid 1930's. It was considered obsolete at the start of WW2 but the Soviets had so many they had no choice but to use them. The Soviets quickly realized the need for better fighters so they recieved P-40s from the U.S. and Hawker Hurricanes from Britain as they developed the La-5 and La-7 as well as the Mig-3. Personally i think the Soviets best WW2 aircraft were the Il-2 fighter/bombers. Those planes were like flying tanks.

IL2 also were flying coffins ⚰ without rear gunner as well. Rear gunner was adapted later after serious loses. Soviet manner, not surprised.

This plane had a manual hand cranked retracting system for the gear. Something like 20 turns or more up and the same back down.

I still have some pictures taken in front of the german city`s main railstation of Hannover . This pictures shows captured planes with russian stencils ; one of this pictures shows this AN I -16 plane ; nicknamed ,, RATA " along with a US made P-39 ,,Aircobra " & another US made P-40 ,, Kittyhawk " , all planes with red star stencils.

But that's how it works. If you have some original parts, you can rebuild the aircraft on them and call it a restoration.

@@TheHikrr You can call it what you like. You can call it the great wall.of china if you want. But the fact remains you can only restore old parts and this is 99% new. It's a replica.
