There was one thing that I liked from Elizabeth's funeral that is worth sharing now that it has happened. The late Queen had myrtle, a symbol for a good marriage in floriography, in her wedding bouquet. After the service she took a cutting from the myrtle and grew it into a plant. The florists for her funeral then took that same plant and used some cuttings from it for her funeral flowers. Edit: BTW the reigning monarch is addressed as "Your Majesty". "Your Highness" is the address for other members of the family.

I follow her on Instagram and she posted something about this video, so I knew I had to come rewatch it. I'm an American, but my sister lives in London. I've always been intrigued by the Royals (I was a little girl when Prince Charles and Lady Di got married and it was the first major event I can remember seeing), but even more so after watching William and his brother walk the long torturous walk after their mother died. I love that the US has lowered their flags until after the Queen's funeral.

My 3-times great grandmother purposefully lived to 100 just to get her letter from the president (didn't know other countries besides the US did this before this comment surprisingly). She was up and dancing on her 100th birthday. Then she got her letter and 3 days later said she was ready to go and passed peacefully in her sleep surrounded by her kids. She was an awesome woman who they had to literally wrangle her drivers license from at age 90 because she could still technically drive legally but they didn't want her to keep leaving the nursing home whenever she pleased, I hope to someday be half as bad a bitch as she was 😂😂😂

Hello from the UK! I was in a shopping centre today and had completely forgotten what was going on today. At 3pm precisely they announced that there was to be a minutes silence and I was amazed how seriously everyone took it. Everyone put their baskets down and stood perfectly still in silence, even the busker outside stopped playing. The immediate reanimation when the minute was up was hilarious, as if nothing had happened.

@@cindylou6084 I got you, fam: Apparently his internal organs were badly bruised when after collapsing in the heat of the battlefield, he was thrown onto the back of a horse, and the hard saddle pommels were rammed into his gut. He eventually, yanno, died. Then, this is what I got from the Historic UK website: "To begin with, the room in which his body lay was almost immediately looted. The king’s body was left lying naked on the floor, while those who had attended his death scuttled off clutching anything and everything. Eventually a passing knight appears to have taken pity on the king and arranged for the body to be embalmed - sort of - followed by its removal to Caen for burial. By this time the body was probably already a little ripe, to say the least. When the monks came to meet the corpse, in a spooky re-run of William’s coronation, fire broke out in the town....(ed. - so everyone had to stop with the funeral and run to help fight the fire). "Just at the point where the assembled mourners were asked to forgive any wrongs that William had done, an unwelcome voice piped up. It was a man claiming that William had robbed his father of the land on which the abbey stood. William, he said, was not going to lie in land that didn’t belong to him. After some haggling, compensation was agreed. "The worst was yet to come. William’s corpse, bloated by this point, wouldn’t fit into the short stone sarcophagus that had been created for it. As it was forced into place, 'the swollen bowels burst, and an intolerable stench assailed the nostrils of the by-standers and the whole crowd', according to Orderic. No amount of incense would cover up the smell and the mourners got through the rest of the proceedings as quickly as they could."

@@sed6657 I’m a Mestizo woman, myself-a direct descendant of those who went through the very hardships you’re describing in my mother’s side, and a direct descendent of the British on my father’s side. First, we’re talking about England. What indigenous people of color are you talking about who had their land stolen from them? That happened here, certainly, but over in England the people have always been white, and many were, in fact, the very colonists who came over here to take land from the people of color here. With all due respect, I think you have your history somewhat confused. Secondly, even if you don’t, I, myself, am going to step forward and say that, as experience has shown me after having seen a fair deal of racism thrown directly at me in my lifetime, when it comes to healing the very wrongs you’re mentioning, there’s a time for fighting back against such wrongs for the sake of healing, and then there comes a time on which showing respect and love to the very people you are seeking healing with becomes the most healing thing one can do for one’s people. When it comes to me and my people, I personally would say that this is certainly a time when the latter of the two is what is, by far, the most important. Taking the attitude you would prefer to take does nothing more than further open a wound that needs to heal, by continuing to dwell upon a time that seeks healing. The mindset you propose only makes the wounds all the greater. What’s more, we allow our hatred and anger to make us bitter, and in so doing, we destroy the best of all that we are. No other mindset could possibly do my ancestors a greater disservice. Through joining with England and wishing them the best during this time when such great healing is needed, we come together in love and greater unity with the very ones we seek healing from, by being that source of healing ourselves through our actions. That is how the wrongs done are healed, not through the anger and bitterness you’re proposing! So, please! I know you mean well, but what you are stating does nothing but further damage to us, the very people you’re wanting to help. Now is not the time for such anger. I for one continue to wish England love , and pray that they find healing during a time of such great national mourning.

I'm from the North East of England. We're traditionally more loyal than a lot of areas. I had to drive for an hour immediately after the funeral, the towns and roads were empty. Everyone I know was sad to hear of his death and most people said they'd be watching the funeral on TV as it happened. Last time I saw the Queen and Prince Phillip I was stood outside a pub with a pint of beer in my hand, their car stopped next to me for a few seconds. Philip nudged the Queen and both gave me huge smiles as I literally raised my glass to them. It was a moment of genuine warm acknowledgment by them.

UK based here. Philip was loved and hated. Today felt very stripped back and the service had a chilled vibe to it. At one point the casket/coffin just seemed to disappear, as cameras were focused on the singers and readers. It was very sudden and caught me off guard. He went down to the vault in no time. I'm from Wales and Philip will be best remembered for his efforts after the Aberfan disaster when 144 children and adults died. He visited 9 times in his life and made sure the Queen came to the site a week after the disaster. Wales shall always thank him for that.

How incidental is it that this popped up in my feed the day before her Majesty Queen Elizabeth's funeral? I am nodding along in agreement with this. @Taylor Swiftie making a video on royal funerals doesn’t mean condoning them, the monarchy in general, or any of their actions; it’s just informative. I think it’s p obvious from all of Caitlin’s content she doesn’t support racist institutions, but she can still comment on them. She emphasises the historic and cultural inequalities among things like class, race, sex etc. in the funeral industry and on broader death related subjects. Nothing in this video suggested any kind of support. In fact, she directly asks people their thoughts and opinions on the monarchy and how British people feel about it. She’s done videos on people like Charles Manson and their death, but that obviously doesn’t mean she supports them as people

It's extremely ignorant to think that an overview of extensive history of a country's royalty, and something literally happening currently and therefore does impact us, should be ignored because you feel personally offended by people you've never met. If you don't comment this kind of victimhood on everything from Ramses II to Pompeii to displacement of Japanese in WW11 and everything in between and since, you're simply looking for attention.

I truly feel for the Queen: when I saw her in the chapel, sitting alone with her head bowed, she reminded me so much of my own mother at my father's funeral. My parents had been married for 52 years and though she was surrounded by family, and was trying to comfort her children, there was a terrible sense of being lost that she projected. She lived for 5 more years and I take comfort in the fact that she, my father, and my sister are together now in a place of eternal peace, where sickness, pain, and sorrow do not exist. One day there will be a glorious reunion in Heaven with the Queen and her loved ones!

Updated from the original now it's not so fresh, as there was a lot of us all to take in: From a British person's perspective (assuming and hoping you do an updated video on this!) I'd really like you to know these things some people overseas may not know: They announced her illness at around 12:30 on the 8th September, that's when we all speculated that she wasn't gonna be here for much longer. Even more so with her final pictures when she met our new prime minister not 48 hours earlier. The news drip fed how the royals were rushing out to Balmoral to be with her- later revealed how it was only Charles and Anne with her and Harry didn't even make it before the news report. On that note, Princess Anne has been absolutely outstanding during these previous days and she has also made history being the first Princess and standing vigil for her dear mama. They also cancelled big sporting events, such as horse races and football before her death was even announced. I know people who work at the races, which is how I know that information. Then, at exactly 6:30pm, it was announced on a breaking news broadcast. She had actually died earlier in the day, but at 6:30pm people are expected to be at home watching the BBC News at 6 so it reached the maximum number of people live. I can't speak for other broadcasting systems as I was already watching the BBC. Stock markets did indeed close, and it was announced as a national bank holiday so some people did get it off work depending on their jobs/contracts. I really hope you talk about the queue for when she was lying in state, it was absolutely insane. And the 'scandals' of celebrities jumping in quicker (yes Holly Willoughby and Philip Schofield) vs celebs who queued with the rest of the people (David Beckham and Teresa May)- also there were official queue wristbands?! What a surreal experience. As far as the procession, the news coverage ran from 6:30am-7pm on most channels and there were corgis and her beloved horse Emma (Fell Pony- I only mention that as one news reporter said the wrong breed on air (mistakes happen!) but the queen was known for her love of Fells, I'm also an equestrian) included- which certainly broke my heart. It certainly was a monumental part of history, and Liz was the nation's grandmother. I think every single British person can say where they were when it was announced, personally I had just pulled up on my drive listening to BBC new live. A bright rainbow took up majority of the sky and I don't think that was a coincidence. My mother was actually due to see a play at the theatre and had spent the day travelling around Liverpool, so she had not been seeing the news reports about Her Majesty's health. The show was supposed to start at 7pm, doors opened at 6:30pm so they all missed the offical announcement. She said they were waiting until almost 7:30pm before the lights dimmed, and a voice came over to announce her passing. They said that the show will go on in honour of our late Queen and asked the audience to stand while they played God Save The Queen one last time. She was always one who said she had to be seen to be believed and the rainbows that appeared all over the country on the 8th was a sight to behold. RIP Queen Elizabeth II 💕

I’m a Londoner, and the general consensus is that people tend to be ambivalent towards Charles, people tend to prefer William and want him to directly ascend to the throne rather than Charles, people are also intrigued and watch the royals closely whenever someone from the family dies. I think my personal feelings were that he was an ass, then it was clear that Camila was his true love and I felt my feelings soften towards him. So overall I'm more positive about him than 25 years ago. Of course I was sooo much younger then too (sigh), so I wasn't really clear on what the truth was about their relationship.
