Wholeheartedly agree with your weekly rant. As a new railway modeller I want to have fun with it and sod the rules.

The Heljan Grain Silo is a great background kit, glad you rediscovered it in your collection. The station roof line reminds me of the Baltimore and Ohio Camden St. Station in Baltimore. It is good to see the train ducking between the buildings before reaching the yard.

Good little industrial scene. You're exactly right. Too much snobbery in the hobby makes it a dull and boring one. I have 5 Layouts, but only one is close to a classic town scene. I like them and am not interested in people questioning what I like to build. Your layout is your world created from your imagination and that is how it should be. Keep doing what you are doing. 👍 Happy Modelling.

I like when you create a "scenario" for your layout. it helps you create the surroundings for it. I did the same thing when I create my layout. Think of yourself as an environmental/urban designer. Lol!! That is what town/city planners actually do. Enjoy the video.

Love your videos, would love a dedicated video to hear more about your opinions on where the hobby is going, I agree with everything you’ve said so far! It’s been refreshing to hear such a realistic and not “rehearsed for social media” point of view. I’ve got so much 00 stuff waiting for me to do something with, but you’re work on N gauge is making me think about getting a starter set just to have a play!

I have a possible rant video planned. I have a mountain of OO stuff, but N just makes so much sense space wise

Excellent use of stuff you already had and the buildings are tall enough to more or less eliminate the need for a backscene. I have back boards on my OO layout, but my aim is to have tall enough buildings so that the match pot sky(ish) blue becomes redundant. Cheers

Agreed on your roast of the snobbery of some people in the model railway scene. You had the same in photography before the advent of digital photography with "Leica/Hasselblad against everyone else" (I had, and still have, a Minolta 600si SLR). That's idiotic. Model railways is fun, and if I want to be forced to follow gratuitous and nonsensical rules, I just have to go to work (I'm a public officer for the State in France), and I am paid for that !

The station and layout reminds me of something out of Eastern Europe or a (Former) USSR country with the whole aesthetic. Maybe this should be theme of this one.

Excellent video. I have an inglenook layout but I have made it a lot longer than normal to allow for some organic growth. It works well for US trains as the wagons are longer and i can make the game a little more difficult by doubling up 1-3 of the wagons and use a caboose. I also use the same layout but with different scenery for my German wagons. These seem lost in this large space as the wagons are really that small, but for German passenger trains they work well. Your layout is too small for the wagons for any inglenook game. I would consider using smaller wagons or increasing the footprint. Although inglenooks are meant to be small, this is too small. I would play with it more and see what limitations it has. Having a 4th track helps.

There are no rules on what size an inglenook should be size wise. I've had hours of fun with this size, even with only 9 Wagons there are thousands of combinations

I fear this snobbery crops up in most hobbies, and people forget that everyone has to start somewhere. Newbies are just as interesting as professionals, and their viewpoints can result in realisation that there is another way. Much like your plastic vs. cardboard comment 😂. One can have a lot of fun just building bare layouts (I do) - using imagination to populate the board with trees and buildings. It's a great hobby for everyone❤

I find motorcyclist a very friendly bunch, KH500 my brother had one recently but sold it due to the ridiculous price of parts to restore it. Back to railways, yes, the snobbery with model railways is annoying and I find sometimes if you don't have £200+ locos or £60 wagons, people are not interested but what I find fun is building layouts mostly under £100 and having probably having more fun than a hugely expensive one. Model railways are what you make of it, as long as your having fun who cares what others think

I really like your street on the left. Going to nick that idea some time! I've got an Ashburton-style box file layout on the go. My main challenge is to disguise the potentially boring parallelness of the tracks, but I think non-parallel fencing and uneven ground should do it.

I think the "extra" siding might just work if it was straight, letting the platform be straight and adding an (intentionally odd) triangle space for for trackside debris.

Looks great though. As you said it just comes together. Stick down a couple of "double straights" paralllel to the head shunt (unconnected) and you have a fiddle yard.

Have you thought about putting the track on to the foam board and then using a sliding sector plate in the ‘fiddle yard’? This would give you maybe 3 extra roads to enhance your shunting…? Just a thought! And as a biker of almost 40 years I (almost) agree with your bike comments. I find most bikers will chat but that HD riders do tend to think of themselves as being above me on my Royal Enfield 😉 Keep up the good work! 😊

Nice layout! Will there be a grade crossing at the end of the street or a barricade? Enclosed cars keep things simple for loaded vs empty but for open cars, I prefer a removable load. Usually, I will add a piece of metal to the load, so that I can pick it up with a magnet. Can you identify the red diesel railcar that you briefly held up? Thank you and cheers!

The snobbery is a problem for the hobby as are those now creating the Model Railway's are dying videos on of which is a certain high profile KZfaqr who says because everything is too expensive its putting people off the hobby. However as you have proven you don't need all the latest models or expensive to make a great layout either in N or 00.
