Get ready, Storm of Swords is incredible, hope you enjoy this journey!

i am really excited for your book 3 review which is generally considered by most to be the best of the series, personally storm of sword is the single best fantasy book i have ever read imo

You aren't the first person I've heard say that.

The conflicting feelings regarding who to root for in the Battle of Blackwater are intentional- one of the main themes of ASOIAF is a repudiation of war (something the tv series kind of forgot)

What i love about Dany's vision in this book is usually people kind of ignoring them on the first read, but when you re-read that chapter AFTER book 3 you'd be like, oh f*ck... 🤣🤣🤣

Stannis SUCKED in the show it was genuinely impressive how thoroughly they removed all this interesting character traits

You’re approaching my favorite book of all time! A Storm of Swords! I cannot wait for you to get to it!
@trisarathopsАй бұрын
The reason Dany's story feels like nothing much is happening, it's bc this was supposed to be the second to last book until GRRM realised he needed one more, and then one more and then another, like this was supposed be a trilogy and now ppl speculate the story is impossible to finish in two more books... But remembering that puts a lot of stuff in the first three books into perspective.

Yeah originally it was gonna be agot then a dance with dragons then winds of winter but a lot has changed. Also I think clash really establishes the characters and their endgame goals

I agree with you, when I would flip the page and see its a sansa chapter I would groan wishing for a jon or arya chapter, however once I started reading the sansa chapter I would always find myself enjoying them.

I love the enthusiasm of your review in every video. You make me want to buy box set of ASOIAF series and read it myself. Hmm or should I buy the comic book instead? I look forward to your next review.

Arya's initial chapters were hella boring 😭

You're talking about Bran and I had the same situation with Sansa)She used to be one of my least favorite characters in the show, even annoyed me)I'm a big fan of the show but I'm reading the books for the first time and it's really surprising that I feel so invested in Sansa)Like you're saying when I turn the page and her name is on the top, it's perfect)

While I fairly enjoy all of the books, based on what you said about Dany's journey in Clash and what Snow is doing in Clash in regard to the plot instead of the story or character development, I think you may struggle with certain plotlines in Feast and Dance to an extent at least. In one of the books Martin does a deep dive of worldbuilding for Essos and certain parts of Westeros and a bunch of fans were baffled to say the least. Exploring the psychological development of characters gets much more of a focus than ever before, while the main plot slows down its pace. I enjoyed both Feast and Dance (although Feast was a better read for me).

Honestly I too found their plots a bit difficult to enjoy at the time, but later on their story becomes way more interesting , especially as they become more adept players

started reading this series with 0 knowledge of anything prior and fell in love, book 3 sealed the deal. honestly one of the best ive ever read, from beginning to end i was never so hooked. i honestly dont read a lot but i remember knocking the first 3 books out in a month how much i fell in love

You should read the dunc and egg stories after ASOS and before AFFC, they are prequels but you’ll see why after reading :)

Something about the show, that really worked against Bran, was that the showrunners weren't very fond of the magical aspects of the series and really toned them down
@GailitisPrintmaking20 күн бұрын
I would say that it leans more into magic as the story goes on. But, it never feels too fantastic, which I have always liked

If you finish the five books and want more I recommend the first of the three Dunk & Egg stories. The Hedge Knight is compellingly good, but the second and third decline in quality as they go along. GRRM also wrote A Night In The Tarn House, set in Jack Vance's Dying Earth milieu like his Hugo/Nebula/Locus triple crown winner Sandkings, both worthy of any reader's time.

My best chapters were of Tyrion and sansa tbh. Putting more emphasis on Tyrion's because his story was fully captivating...

Thanks for the engaging review! I enjoyed Clash of Kings, as well. I would love the Folio Society editions of these books, but they are $230 each, which is rather breathtaking. They are beautiful, though.
@rammelbroadcasting9 сағат бұрын
@ericw4377 I know I have several books from the folio society, but these ones give me pause, lol. I'm not sure I have a 1,000 dollar level of investment in these books.

An additional thing that I think contributes to the popularity of ASOIAF, is the diversity in characters. Different people are drawn to different characters, and there is something for everyone. What characters a reader is drawn most to can also change from read to read. Personally, Catelyn was my favourite POV. She feels incredibly fleshed out, someone with a lived life, someone with strenghts and weaknesses; I love her introspection and her perspectives. Sansa is another favourite of mine, and imo one of the most thematically important characters. She is the fantasy reader, naively believing in all the tropes, who learns thehard way that "life is not a song"; but unlike jaded cynics like The Hound, Jaime, Cersei or Littefinger, Sansa (so far) has managed to maintain her ideals. She tells The Hound that his brother The Mountain "was no true knight" when The Hound tries to prove to her that knights are just hired killers with better PR, and she thinks to herself "if I'm every queen, I'll make them love me" when Cersei tells her that she must make her subjects fear her more that they fear her enemy. Stannis is one of my favourite non-POVs. He's build up in GoT as this merciless, hard, just man; but introduced in CoK through the POV of the Maester that raised him, who looks on him with loving eyes as his "sad, sullen boy". What a beautiful, humanising introduction. I love Stannis' struggle trying to decide what is righteous, with Melisandre and Davos on each shoulder. I love his straightforward way of thinking, his distain for insincerity, his silly stubbornness, his rare soft and vulnerable moments with Davos. Looking forward to seeing what you think about the rest of this series, thank you for sharing your thoughts!

I feel the same when i first read the series with Sansa and Catelyn, i don't like the way they are or think, especially because jon snow is my favorite character (even though I've already reread this series 10 times). But when i reread they, i was truly invested im their stories and characters. They are not my favorite characters, but I will defend them with all my heart. They receive a lot of hate in a story that there are much worse and really bad people, and these people receive love or understanding. Ps: Maybe you feel the same when you read about Dorne and its characters in A Feast for Crows, but this arc later becomes very interesting on a reread.

Stannis is amazing. "One Realm, One God, One King"
@vanessaamesty67397 күн бұрын
When it comes to Sansa she's the kind of character that is hope for the future. We (her fans) are focus on her political growth and how she will ultimately wheel power to help at the end of the storyline.

They should be warned that it's written closer to a historical textbook, so it's a fairly difference reading experience.

Theon and Sansa and Catelyn would top my investment in Clash- then Tyrion joined them on reread. Stannis as well in a looming way and I like the Davos/Stannis/Mellisandre trifecta.
@reneepope-munro81153 күн бұрын
It is WILD to me that Cat is so low on your investment list. She is by far one of my fave POV characters and a perspective I am always interested in due to the layers of nuance in her story, and I think Sansa's storyline is DEEPLY integral to the story, so frame her as "just another POV character" is utterly inexplicable to me. I couldn't care less about Melisandre, and by extension, Stannis.

Don't read storm of words, it will ruin every other novella you get to read after that one.
