I fully agree on the Solstice being hidden thing. I played the first version years ago, then bought the Steam version because I wanted to support the creator, without knowing it had great improvements. Then I finished it and left it. Some time later, I got a new computer, so I said "Hey, I can play Oneshot again! Same old story, but it's my favorite game! Wait did Niko just call my name what the heck do you mean this is a new route". If it weren't for that, I wouldn't have found out, or would have another way... but honestly, I loved how it happened. It was one of the most beautiful surprises I've ever gotten from fiction. It's a double edged sword.

I'm 4 minutes in and i gotta say that oneshot shouldn't be taken as a game in the first place. Like, its whole idea is breaking all thoughts and morals you have on that type of stuff; you need to at minimum consider it an interactive story, and at best a real experience for your life. Oneshot is an adventure

Damn, I just finished Oneshot a couple days ago, and after wrapping up solstice (and my tearful post game depression session) I was feeling especially motivated to finally try my hand at making a video essay about this game. The music of this game is so incredible to me, it invokes this incredibly lonely, anxious, mysterious and sad feeling that I think I have only ever felt in my dreams but I love it so much and it fascinates me! And the fact George can have random personalities differing to different people is SO COOL to me!! Like augh that’s so rad! I got the George that’s always talking in 3rd person! Also, was not prepared to see a BABY MAIZE OH MY GAW THAT’S PRECIOUS 😭 Last mini rant, I really like that they basically gave nothing to hint towards solstice because when I found it all on my own it made it feel all that more real! It was so surreal feeling

In my opinion, games like UNDERTALE, OMORI, and this one are what I love. These games are some of the most interesting RPG stories I've seen, and to be fair you can even call it an adventure, and a life lesson. Personally, the void these games leave in you after fully 100%ing them for the first time is the greatest and yet loneliest feeling ever. I love OneShot and I love all these games. I wonder when we'll get more like these.

The first time i played though oneshot chose to put back the sun, but in my head im questioning if i did the right thing, i went around the internet to find answers and i didnt find one and i didnt want for me to accidentally know what is the solstice ending is, at that time i only knew its the true ending but i still feel horrible knowing that i just left niko in the game, i replayed the whole game again by removing my files and did the same run with a few different decisions and chose to bring niko home. But then.... i still feel distressed that I made the decision, what happens to the world, are they real in the sense that niko's world is real? what happens to them? what happened when i left niko at the tower? My emotions were convoluted. So i decided i would finally try the solstice run the next day. Needless to say i wasnt ready for a roller-coaster of emotions, new puzzles, dialogue, lore, characters. I'll keep it short because i dont even know what to say but, this game is the best 4th wall breaking emotional roller-coaster of puzzles and characters (especially niko) of a game. I watched this video right after i finished the solstice run and boy you really did a great job explaining my experience. oh yeah radical opinion oneshot is better the undertale in the form of storytelling and the bond you build with the characters

9:57 this was my only real issue with the game that’s not just a nitpick. I just finished playing it and in my playthrough of the first ending, I wanted to save niko and not tell them of the consequences of doing so, as it didn’t feel right to do so for me. But at the elevator scene, the game forced me to tell niko the truth, which you could argue is the better option but it isn’t what *I* wanted to do. I ended up choosing to not destroy the sun as I didn’t want to burden niko with the guilt, and we didn’t know for sure what would happen to them. It really caused a bit of a disconnect between me and “my character”. Other then that though I god damn love that game:] Edit: dialogue options get especially bad at soulstice imo

I accidentally confused myself on the first meta puzzle by mixing up my pc documents and my onedrive documents, then somehow using the clover to open a second game. It got even better when the code only worked once, so the other window was just stuck (somehow it didn't mess up my oneshot achievement). I wonder if that means there's an alternate niko out there stuck with no code...

As far as I'm aware, the desktop never changes to hint at Solstice. If I had to guess, what likely happened was you confused the black clover program for your desktop. When you open up the black clover program after beating the main game, it shows you a note hinting at Solstice, with a clear background. It might look like it changed your desktop, but it was probably just because the background of the program was clear and you confused it for your desktop.

Do you think The Author is still alive somewhere? If so, where? If not, then what's the deal with Solstice?
@pixelbit_
@pixelbit_ Жыл бұрын
Personally, I think there's enough evidence to suggest that he's long dead, but still wanted to have contingencies in case something went wrong with the simulation, which obviously setting did. Although, I plan on releasing a video on that in a few months, so keep an eye out.
@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj
@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj Жыл бұрын
@@pixelbit_ thats fair. so, you're suggesting the Solstice updates were something he included with the intent to have them activate should something go wrong? I have a counterpoint. What of the Rue Intermission? y'know, from the end of the first countdown timer. If he already finished the update and just set it to go off incase of an emergency, how come it wasnt finished and needed like, and extra week or something? How come Rue didn't know about this? And, minor aside, he ends a couple of his messages with "See you soon." What's up with that? Is he threatening our lives?
@pixelbit_
@pixelbit_ Жыл бұрын
@@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj The "see you soon" messages are probably more of his way of saying "you're gonna see more of my notes later." As for the Rue intermission, I've never really thought about it, and it's a pretty strong argument for him still being alive (or at least, his AI). There's also the question of how canon the Rue intermission is, because if I remember correctly it was put there so because Solstice needed some polishes before it got released, so it was the devs way of saying "hey we're not done with Solstice yet."
@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj

@@pixelbit_To put more stock in the idea that The Author is Super Dead, if he was alive he wouldn't need the player to run the world, he could just do it himself. On a related note, do you think the world is a physical space that is merely generated from code, like a hologram, or is it a purely digital creation which elected participants can connect themselves to, like the matrix?
@pixelbit_

@@FirstnameLastname-sb3hj It's definitely purely digital. The Author created the world to be almost exactly like his own. The whole point of the world was to simulate what would happen if the Messiah came in time, and the Author wanted to remain as faithful as possible to his world.

I might be very contrarian about this but I’m not really a fan of Solstice. Like, the game is about you having only one shot at saving the world with a very heavy moral choice at the end and I feel like Solstice kind of throws it away just to give you the happy ending everyone deserves. I mean, the narrative is still very thoughtful but the core idea of everything before the run being “pointless” because everything is a simulation is just lame, like come on.
@qwerty3793
@qwerty3793 4 ай бұрын
I think that's a fair opinion. The game devs seem to have realized that since they included a section in the opening of the Solstice note that's like "if you consider the game complete as is then you can pretend this update doesn't exist." I personally like Solstice because it ties up some loose ends regarding the World Machine, but it does make the ending less heavy. Making the journey more dangerous helps justify the happier ending (in a Earn Your Happy Ending kinda way), but I can see why some might not see it that way.

In the original version of OneShot (released for free on RPG Maker), if you close the game then Niko will die.
