I found your channel today and you are amazing, and of course I have now subscribed! You remind me so much of the last teacher I had during my years of study. I wanted to play this Impromptu when I was in high school, but the second teacher that I was with at that time with would not teach it to me as she said it was too difficult for me!! Thanks to the teacher I had for the first 3 years of my piano study, I was gifted with very good sight reading and an already relaxed and flexible technique. I anyway just worked at it myself and because my scales and arpeggios were good, I was able to play it. Later when I started my musical studies after school, I asked my teacher if I could learn it as an additional repertoire piece. Your tutorial here is wonderful and thank you for your amazing and performance and technical tips. I am actually teaching it to an adult student at the moment, so your practice tips are invaluable. Thank You!

@@tingtingzhang thanks! It is such an amazing piece, isn't it - once I've learned the first 4 'mini sections' contained within the 1st third of the piece - then it's just the magnificent middle part, then the first third is repeated! What a miraculous piece!

Hi @Tingting Zhang, thank you for this lesson! I am afraid my level is not high enough, but I absolutely love this piece and I would really like to be able to play it. The problem is, I only had rather informal piano lessons from 8yo to 13yo and I was never taught scales, arpeggios or harmony at all... Then I didn't always had a piano and never had lessons again... So I am 36yo now and I started again by myself about 3 years ago. I can play it, but not well, with mistakes, and I seem to have reached a plateau in my progression, I don't know how to improve anymore. I need to find a good piano teacher, obviously, but in the meantime, what would you recommend me to do? I bought a scales book etc but I am not sure how to practice..
@tingtingzhang
@tingtingzhang 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Claire, thank you for your sincere message. I am touched by your enthusiasm for piano playing! I totally understand your struggles. The online tutorials are valuable, however, they only address the most common problems. They can't replace the one-on-one personal instruction you get from a private piano lesson. Therefore, my first suggestion for you is if you have the time and budget, try to work with a piano teacher who can guide you through the process of learning a piece and give you instant feedback when something is wrong. This way you will be able to make consistent progress and get the support you need to overcome any challenge. Secondly, if your short-term goal is to be able to play this impromptu, then in addition to practicing scales and arpeggios on daily basis, you should learn some Sonatinas by Clementi, such as Op.36. Those are great introductory pieces to the Classical style. They help to develop your technique and are much more fun than the scales. 😊 Another set of pieces I used a lot with my students is the Burgmuller 25 Progressive Pieces, Op.100. They are miniature Romantic pieces, very charming. The pieces mentioned above will serve as the stepping stones which prepare you both technically and musically for something more challenging like this impromptu. Feel free to email me at tingtingzhangpiano@gmail.com if you have further questions.
