I went through that debacle in 2014. Trying to relocate with no job, no credit, nothing but a ton of cash and trying to find a place to live was a nightmare. I can't imagine what using only cash would be like now in 2023.

It's for if you cause damages to the room or the hotel they can charge you for it. If you paid in cash they have no way to charge you nor do they have a name or leverage, you could just walk out and get away with it.

@h3ck774 it's one step removed from the hotels control. Insurance. It's required by law to keep the business insured, the insurance dictates additional rules. I owned a bar. I'll tell ya I still worked for someone, several someones. The city the state the fed, so many bosses.

So before I chopped my hair off, folks used to say I looked like Kid Rock, which I've NEVER considered a compliment. Then when I switched jobs and didn't have to worry about heat stroke, I grew my hair back out and one day at the skate park a gorgeous girl said "whoa! U look like Mitch Hedberg!" And after the shock of utter flattery all i could say was "I love you, what's your name?" And she and I were madly in love for the next 5 years. Rest in peace Mitch. Bro, that’s the most beautiful and sad story and I just want to thank you for sharing it. Mitch is immortalized to me because of his specials that me and my best friend would listen to over and over and laugh like there was no tomorrow. That friend did something horrible and went to jail and I will never see him again, by choice. The past really is powerful.

As long as everything looks good mitch gets the money back. However if mitch did no damage to the room and never asked for the money back. Then yes the guy gets the money. And nothing is charged on the credit card. The company has nothing to be concerned about.

He was selling tickets like a band. Instead of divvying out cash to a few other guys in a band, Mitch put it in his pocket. Even when Mitch traded a lot of his cash for expensive drugs, he still had a bunch of cash. There is also the possibility that he had small hands which would make a handful of cash seem even more huge.
