I'm not a huge fan of Backrooms games, but I really loved this one. It features lots of different levels of the Backrooms, with some very cool sights along the way and even has full voice acting. The creator of this game is currently in the process of remaking it, so for this playthrough I've included the first two remade levels, then the game continues through the original levels, then there's one more new level at the end. That's why the visual effects and aspect ratios may change a little throughout.

Apparently, the level at the end of the video (level 974) was named Kitty's house, and surprisingly kitty ( tall black dude in the end) was not hostile. So the protagonist is safe for now. Edit: Forgot to mention he's actually scaring newcomers for entertainment but that's it.

Looks good! My only small critique would be along the lines of video equipment 'back in the day' really wasn't 'this' bad. I say this with some level of experience as I grew up when the VCR was a thing. Yeah it would have its moments, and tapes would vary in quality, but overall you had a reasonably stable picture. What's portrayed in the game suggests faulty kit...

@h0tt0_d0gu6 Жыл бұрын
i suppose they aren’t aiming for the “back in the days” effect, since the technology they’re using seems quite modern. The static/faulty effects are probably just to demonstrate how the Backrooms have weird effects on stuffs.

Plus, these are playback effects, not what you would see when looking through the camera as it was filming. And if it did look like this on playback, you'd probably try to adjust your VCR. 😅 I usually prefer a less exaggerated effect so that it doesn't steal too much focus away from everything else, but I personally don't mind it much in this case, because who knows what kind of impact an interdimensional nightmare space might have on a camcorder, you know? 😄

There was an interesting backrooms game I heard about called “Within the Backrooms” It’s very unorthodox compared to other games, going for more liminal and stylistically empty aspects of the backrooms - closer in line with the images inspiring it - rather than violent entities. It’s still early in development from what I get, but it’s very unique compared to most and I suggest checking it out

I mean, i love Kane's vision being made playable, but now with him taking a break and focus on an actual film, i prefer to see an original take once in a while.

The ending looks like lvl 974 and the entity is kitty. lvl 974 is a safe level with minimal entity count which means the entity is just one but harmless, kitty is the entity that resides in lvl 974 despite the entity's terrifying appearance he doesn't hurt any wanderers that he come across he usually pops out of nowhere when you explore the entire level scaring the daylights out of you. Kitty can help you leave the lvl by offering him something cute, after the bargain is made you'll fall asleep and when you wake up you are in a safe level.

PEOPLE OF THE INTERNET I NEED YOUR HELP… Someone please tell me I’m not crazy but in one of those hotel rooms of the pool area, you go up on a balcony and look in one of the windows, not across the balcony but right there on the balcony with you, and in the window there’s a curtain closed but you can slightly see under the curtain if you crouch, and in there you can see feet dangling and a stool next to the feet (meaning someone hung themselves in that room) and I remember it so vividly being in this game but I can’t seem to find a single video showing it. When it moves away from the usual Kane Pixels yellow rooms burnt noodles man crap, it feels pretty interesting. Like, you can definitely see this was made by someone that gives a shit about the backrooms, has done their homework and has tried to go down the less commonly walked path further in while creating levels mostly the right way. The depiction of some entities like the wretch(?) and the partygoers was pretty great. It was interesting seeing the two buddies you go with commenting on the environment. The pacing could have been better but things calm down slightly over halfway in. I wanna see some backrooms games that stand on their own without need to reference the expected backrooms content. No kane pixels, no expected entitles, no level 1. Seriously, please chuck some levels at us that encourage us to flip open the various wikis and figure out what's being referenced, it's not just brainless kids that enjoy this concept and there'd sure be less of them if developers got a little braver.

Not a bad Backrooms game. At least, the Backrooms finally has a story game rather than a multiplayer game that either explains the lore and monsters through progression, or simply just for the heck of it. That aside, I still find it ridiculous that the third member of your team died in the elevator...just like that. There's no explanation on how he died, so I (assumingly) think that he died probably due to hard impact when the elevator stops at the pool rooms. Could be that one of his equipments or maybe a bone slipped off, killing him in the process. I mean, it sounds like he was choking or gurgling. He didn't even say anything on why and how he's hurt: he just died right at the spot, leaving you to venture alone. I think there should've been something to explain his death. Maybe some dialogue saying that his legs is badly injured and cannot proceed any further? Or perhaps, the pack behind his back broke his spine, causing him to die? Either way, some death script from him may suffice on his outcome. Just saying, because it's pretty idiotic that he just randomly dies in the elevator for no reason.

I hate what the Backroom's become. Imo it should've stayed as a space you get trapped in alone forever when clipping through reality with nothing but featureless walls and humming lights that makes you go crazy from isolation, all the monsters with stupid rules and the groups investigating it take away the actual horror of it and what made it interesting, they're just an excuse to make it game-like. But I actually don't mind the scene with the whales, that feels like a moment of respite that doesn't take away from the overall horror, and makes the place feel more alien like and mysterious
@Necrowolf81
@Necrowolf81 Жыл бұрын
the underground Rapture wannabe with the whales was completely out of place for backrooms. I agree with you on the monster thing. That's why I prefer Kane pixels' version as it only has the one monster type and it doesn't really have any rules other than stay the hell away from it if possible.
@michex2081

The first description of the Backrooms includes a monster though 🤔 it's not just the isolation of it that makes it feel scary. It's the unknown of what's around the seemingly normal corner.
@oilimenoruega7836
@oilimenoruega7836 Жыл бұрын
@@michex2081 Sure, it's mentioned, but just very briefly, and it's kind of the least unique part about it. And I feel the problem is that people latched on to that part and decided to expand on it. And that unknown factor has been almost completely removed by the community because of it. I think it's not the unknown that made the original post so compelling. It's the existential dread that you just get trapped outside reality in such an uncaring, unceremonious way. Like, you can accidentally be completely isolated and no one will ever know the truth. And the space you're in is as close as you can get to straight up white room torture
@michex2081
@michex2081 Жыл бұрын
@@oilimenoruega7836 Fair enough - I think that's maybe what makes the Backrooms so great. Everyone's interpretation of why it's scary is different! People's day-to-day fears get projected into this new scenario and get amplified 😅But to an extent I do agree that a lot of the games tend to focus too much on one interpretation especially with the monsters and I would like to see more creativity there. Kane Pixels' version of the backrooms is interesting but I would love to play something that is a little truer to the "original" Backrooms. That could potentially be a lot scarier if done correctly. I'm not sure if I subscribe to the idea that Level 0 is the only (canon) level of the Backrooms and if that would necessarily make an interesting game. But maybe that's the point. Not a fun game OR a fun life experience if it ever happened to you lol.

I love the concept of The Backrooms, but much of what I saw here looked to be more homage with random horror elements grabbed from other IP's that don't really fit with the horrific setting of the mundane ad infinitum. I loved that the female voice acting was more akin to Dana Scully than the average scream queen/terrified scientist, especially since her dialogue options seem to be dynamic, with lots of potential to divert away from the assumed primary route. The only real gripe I have is that the player character seems to be default male; it would have been nice if the dialogue supported a gender-neutral option, as well as giving the player the option to have male/female-related voices for simple things like grunting/breathing. Level 4 was amazing, and super disorienting. It would be great if a level was made where players enter large, complex structures with numerous side rooms that, upon pressing a button inside will cause the larger room to re-orient itself for fun platforming, whether the room turn upside-down, sideways, flattened, spherified, or inverted, etc. The concept of an ever-changing room could also be made into a crazy boss battle, like the mansion demon from the Demon Slayer anime. My brother once made a Doom level in the 90s that changed its maze according to where the player went, but the rooms/walls would only move when the player was far enough away to prevent them from hearing the moving walls, making some rooms with multiple passages into dead-ends, which made the entire maze feel alive. The addition of the 80s-era video camera was nice, but it made me motion sick; I'm not a huge fan of the "found footage" film style, especially if my video game perspective was somehow seen through an 80s-era camera and not my modern human eyeballs. Since you're wearing some form of S.C.A.P.E. suit (Self Contained Air Pressurized Environment suit), it would be cool if there were one or two "rear view mirrors" at the top/bottom corners to allow players limited sight behind them (to prevent turning around while running, and to provide visual pressure other than dimming lights). Not sure how movement felt in-game, but I would expect moving inside a pressurized suit would be cumbersome and disorienting, made even more disorienting with the mundane office environment.
