I noticed that most of the reviews of the Cubot P6 phone on KZfaq are just adverts for the sellers, so here's one from an actual user who has had the phone for a while.
In short, the massive market for Android phones in China has meant they are being mass produced, so the cost of a generic unbranded phone has fallen dramatically. The Cubot P6 is what an Android phone should be. Slick and functional. It use a common Mediatek 1.2GHz dual core processor and completely blows away my old Motorola Defy plus in terms of performance. The 5" screen is clear and bright making it very easy to read and very good for viewing videos. The back camera is OK but not anything special. The front fixed focus camera is actually pretty good.
The phone is a dual SIM unit that can accept two SIMs from different networks so you can carry a single phone when away from your home network area. The feature works very well with the phone recognising new SIMs, identifying them and letting you choose what function each will have.
So far I think this is the best phone I've ever had.

I just want to say thank you for such a thorough review, plus you see very personable and genuine and I trust that your giving a fully, honest opinion, which I appreciate! My thoughts are similar to yours: I find it hard to justify paying for a phone what I would for one months rent. I've been going back and forth between the various 'generic' brands, and think that Cubot may be the one for me as well! Thanks for the help!

I'd recommend using a high speed SDHC ard in any modern phone with a capacity of 8G or larger. It's also a good idea to format (clear) the card before use.

Great!! I bought the P9 and to be honest with you is working as good as my old Samsung galaxy SIII, the camera is not wow like yours, but the good thing is that I paid only £40 bidding! Thanks so much for your review and well said about people spending so much money in mobiles specs that people probably will never use!

bigclivedotcom just bought this one but the model above...its blown my expectations out the water its a real nice bit of kit for about £60, i cant really fault it apart from the screen but in all honestly its not too bad. the dual sim capability has has worked a treat as i live in a bad signal location, as in one network in one county has a better signal than others.

Battery seems quite good, but I only tend to surf or do facebook, so I'm not sure how it would last with gaming. The newer version of this phone the Cubot P7 might be a better choice as it has a quad processor instead of the P6's dual processor.

100% agree with you. Motorola came out with a "budget" phone called the moto G they designed it with just stock Android. It did not come with a fancy UI or stupid weather widgets just back to basics. I would have bought a phone like the Cubot but I ride a motorcycle and wanted a phone to be splash proof so thats why I bought the moto G at £120. Never tested the splash proof part yet but I'm sure it will happen soon enough with all this awesome Scottish weather. :) Nice review, I wish more phone reviews on youtube would get to the point and stop showing the phone from 70 different views while talking about apps.....

There's a very good chance that Motorola came out with a budget phone because they realise that the market has so many good generic phones in it. I was quite tempted by that new Motorola one, but the screen size was an issue for me. I've got big hands and the phone fits nicely in a cargo pocket so I like the big screen. There are generic Android phones with proper waterproofing, but they seem to lag behind the specs of the non waterproof models.

Hello bigclivedo I was thinking of buying this model for my daughter what I would like to know is how is the battery life in one day usage (in use a lot and medium ect.)
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 9 жыл бұрын
Mark Williams It's actually an older model now, and while it performs very well, bloatware apps like Facebook will tend to get a bit sluggish on it. A modern alternative with a much wider variety of cases and accessories for it might be the Moto G 2nd generation. It's also a 5" screen dual SIM phone, but it has the latest version of Android on it, has a much faster processor and is pretty good all round. You can buy them on Amazon without a contract.

Hey there BC, so what phone are you still using by now after all of this time?? Please let me know because believe it or not, yeah call Ripley's, LOL I still have not purchased an I-phone of any sort and I'm really thinking hard about buying one now. How long & are you satisfied with everything on it? Thanks, Tom. Reason I ask is because they can be so expensive if nothing but just the monthly phone payments, which is maybe the reason that I'm unable to purchase one of any kind. I don't believe in losing minutes or days every month unless spending more money within 30 days & the like & those with a two year contract can completely forget it because I won't be their Huckleberry. LOL. Later, Tom.

can you send and receive picture text messages with this phone? I've heard some complain that they cannot do this with some of the cubot phones
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 10 жыл бұрын
I've just tried send an image by text and it didn't work. I don't normally use the MMS type image sending system (I normally send them by email) so I don't know if it's down to the settings or a quirk in the phone. The settings look OK, so it may be a phone software quirk.
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 10 жыл бұрын
I'm thinking this may be down to my use of a SIM that it set up for high speed data and calls. The Internet settings are completely different for a normal SIM so that may be why MMS didn't work for me.

Either in camera mode itself by touching the small image at top right to view all the images by swiping through them and deleting any you don't want by touching the menu button and selecting delete, or alternatively download a good image viewer app from Play Store like QuickPic.

But, does it shoot 1080p video in MP4. I dont think so. I havent found one advert or video to confirm it. Seems like they are pulling the wool over our eyes for this one, unless anyone can tell me otherwise????? It just doesnt confirm the Video Resolution any where? Up to 1080p ??????

While the camera is quite good, it suffers from an overactive autofocus in video mode. As of yet I've found no way to disable that, and it renders the phone unusable for decent video.
@davidanthonybatten9150

Hmmmm, I find this with my Canon Eos650D as well as my Panasonic HC-V250. I feel the manufacturers do this on purpose with cheaper lower end products. I,e. You can always spend a lot more on higher end models with these manufacturers.

David Batten Feature rationing. The worst example recently being the Flir E4 thermal imaging camera. It's the base model in their range, but had all the software of the top of the range model installed, but disabled by a configuration file that enabled the amount of features paid for. In the case of the Cubot's camera I think it's just sloppy firmware writing.

These Chinese phones/tablets are starting to get really advanced. I remember watching those Ashens videos where he reviews cheap knock-off iPhones and such with their own proprietary OS and they were absolute shite. But now you can get actually quite good ones with the most recent Android on them for like £100. I got a Cube tablet off GearBest with Windows 10 on it for £130 and it works fine, at least as well as a comparable big brand tablet with the same specs. Just be careful though, when it came to the door, they slapped me with a 25 quid import duty by surprise. Wasn't particularly impressed by that. But still, >£200 cheaper than an iPad, you can't really go wrong.

hi I got a cubot and am very happy with it but my 3G is not working for some reason. Any tips??
@bigclivedotcom
@bigclivedotcom 10 жыл бұрын
There are a few reasons that the 3G might not work. 1. Is your main SIM for data in slot number one? 2. Is data turned on? settings/data-usage/data-on. 3. Is the APN correct? This is a bit more complicated, but once you've sussed it out you'll find it easy if you have to do it again. Settings/More... (under "data usage") / Mobile Networks / Access Point Names / It should have a setting for your provider but if it's not correct you may have to change the settings to match those on your providers website. They usually have a guide to setting up your APN. If there's no setting to match your provider you can press the menu button at the bottom left of your phone and make one. Check your service providers website for the data you need. Not all the spaces need to be filled, just the ones they actually list.

Thank you so much! Option3 worked. I had to get in to my network providers website and there were a few instructions there which made it work straight away- the cubot was already boxed ready to be returned as I had given up on 3G but this certainly has restored my enthusiasm in the device- It is really a super phone. Excellent stuff! Cheers!

Mandy Stafrace Glad you got it sorted. The phones do seem to come pre-programmed with quite a lot of APN's for different service providers, but not all. It's quite useful to know what all these things do.

That's almost three times the price and has a smaller screen. This phone is a useful generic Android phone with a good enough spec to handle normal tasks. The main point is that the ready availability of the chipos associated with these Chandroid phones means the big manufacturers are going to have to stop killing the golden goose.

I brought cubot s308 £99 just to test what Chinese phones are all about & and people said u wasting money on Chinese junk they only good at copying things but it's better then my iPhone 4s , from screen resolution to camera and the best thing about chinese phones they come dual sim, fraction of the price you pay for branded phones ,I seriously think China is catching up faster then people give them credit for , my friend brought a huawei p7 it's the most advanced phone I have come across we did some tests with iPhone 5s and Galaxy s5 and it performed better then both in every aspect , in ten years time I think they will take over the phones market as people will notice and appreciate their phones only top makers such as Apple and samsung will have some serious competition as for nokia, lg, Sony, Xperia ect will be out of business
