I was getting a strong Central Asia vibe from it. Muslim, rural, arid, etc. I kind of understand where he got the general region from, but I guess there was still a strong possibility it could have been like Pakistan or rural Iran. Regarding power lines, those big triangular ones are pretty common for high voltage transmission in Europe. So if you see one of them, you're probably in between two big cities. It wasn't for that round, but generally that should be the case. In this case, OpenStreetMap tells me that powerline connects Ankara to the southern city of Şanlıurfa.

to summarize my adventure: 1) Recognized it could be Colombia because of the yellow number plates and because the van had the registration painted on the door. And I had the impression the texts might be Spanish. Went for a place near Panama. Then I got surprised: I once was at the very spot the picture was taken. One of the most amazing places of the planet we're living on. 2) Decided to move around a bit as the image quality was really bad. I was sure it's the USA from the starting point, then clicked in Nevada. 3) Was pretty sure it looked like Turkey, moved again towards a road sign with some Turkish text, then to another sign with place names. From there getting to within 1km was no big deal. 4) Easy to recognize as somewhere in Korea, did not bother at all moving around, because I know finding an exact spot in South Korea is extremely difficult for me, clicked in a town that sounded promising, got 4995 points. My most insane guess probably. 5) The image did not load on my screen, so I muted the KZfaq tab and used your scrolling and zooming to get clues. The number plate had Arabic numbers, but most Arabic countries use (also) "European" numbers, at least those I thought I knew a bit about. I was thinking it has to be Yemen, Afghanistan or Pakistan. The valley looked a bit like images I saw from Tajikistan, the name "Wardak" sounded like a name a Pashtun might have, so I went for Afghanistan and chose the road from Kabul to Jalalabad, because I imaged this is a place people would dare to make a photo stop. Got 21k, by far the worst guess came on the round from a place I have been. Nice one!

Great Job! Tom, you kind of missed something. Round 1: there was a yellow license plate on the motorcycle, and a white license plates on the side of van. Colombia has the yellow license plates on cars and painted-on white license plates on trucks, taxis, and vans.

Northern California and Southern Oregon wants to be a new state called Jefferson. Movement started back around 1940 and was derailed by the attack on Pearl Harbor and World War II. Most recently it’s been popular again because the politics in that region is very different than the rest of the state.

Protip: The compass is pretty much always worth fuck all in photospheres, don't know if it ever works actually. Maybe only by chance. Once had a location in Paris where I could see the arch thing and pretty much had the distance spot on but was on the wrong street because the compass lied. So don't beat yourself up over not checking further in that last round, that was an amazing guess!

Clues you didn't get: Map 1: This doesn't say Bio but Rio. Watch the shades, the sun was nearly in the zenith which means we are very near the equator, which means: Colombia. Map 2: Foliage: Lots of Coniferes (needle-trees), very dry, hilly. Which means west coast of the US. Map 3: Vast, empty land, good roads and a white minaret (the "bell-tower" of mosques) at the horizon = Turkey

You get stranded on an island, pick 3 items and a person you would like to be stranded with. I would pick a knife, tarp, and a magnifying glass. The person would be the only person I know that can accurately guess the location because of how the roads look, dirt appears, and how the water looks.
