They perfectly replicated Diana's iconic wardrobe, particularly the infamous Revenge Dress. The costume department definitely deserves a huge pay raise!

Yesss and someone wrote that Elizabeth Debecki has a different body than Diana did yet they captured the dress while making it suitable for Elizabeth. Much better than the utter alteration of the recreation of Monica Lewinsky's Inaugural gown for ACS Impeachment (they gave Beanie something that looks like a David's Bridal clearance rack bridesmaid gown rather than the old Hollywood esque gown Monica wore)

Well, I think that comes down to budget. I don’t think American Crime Story has quite the same budget as The Crown. I still think Beanie was great, but I agree some of the costumes were lacking. They all did well with what they had though

The Revenge Dress was without a doubt, flawless. The necklace that was mocked up in dressmaker's jewels missed a detail - an adjustable chain link closure at the nape was not correct. The actual clasp was a re-worked antique brooch (a gift from HM The Queen Mother) that was made into a clasp for the choker. There was a concealed box-tongue closure that was secreted at the side of the sapphire and diamond brooch/clasp. The end result of this upgrade? No visible closure, just pearls around the entire neck.

@@lindseystein9676 They added sleeves to that gown and a different neckline, they said they changed on purpose because Beanie has a different body. Felt fatphobic

I remember watching the series (I haven’t finished it yet) and squealing every time I saw a nod to one of Lady Diana’s Iconic Outfits. P.S. Elizabeth Debicki KILLED IT in her role as Lady Diana.

The best thing I ever learned about Diana's revenge dress is that it was actually bought in 1989, but Diana knew how provocative it would be, so she saved it for when she'd really need to use it. Then, the perfect opportunity came along.

Your comment makes me so happy lol. The first place my brain goes is also sims 3. All the hours in build mode and CAS. At this point, I’ve heard this music or other songs used in the game enough times that my guess is it’s just copyright free music that many productions use. It always gets me together lol.

Just an observation: would the pearl necklace Diana wore with the “revenge dress” have a clasp that is not as expensive looking as the rest of the necklace? Or is it an exact replica? The costume team did an EXCELLENT job! ❤️🐈

It did Sally, but the designers didn't do exact copies they did homage, respectful to the original designers and the Princess of Wales

The clasp bothered me as well. It doesn’t fit in the context of that necklace: pearls, diamonds and a gigantic sapphire, with a supermarket necklace lobster clasp?

the only thing in real life the pearl choker was seamless in the back and the clasp was in the front. for some reason this cheap looking shein choker was given a close up.

I swear my mother owned a dress super similar to the second honeymoon dress in the early 90s. I also remember people comparing my family to the Wale's a bunch at that time, so that dress struck a chord with me.

I had the green mint blazer, it was made by ESCADA (the one that Diana had, not the one that they picked for the show). As a vintage collector I was little disappointed by the quality of most of the clothes on the show honestly. They did not looked like the premium brands clothes from that era

Now honestly I'm going to be a little critical of the wardrobe. I know to play Diana would be one of the most daunting prospects for any actress and almost a no win for a wardrobe department And I realise Diana was impeccable with whatever she wore, which makes a portrayal or her even more open to criticism but the first thing I noted in season 5 is that although Diana was tall, she was not this tall or this gaunt. This changes things quite a bit id imagine for a wardrobe department. Diana as she got older had a strong physique that meant she had incredible poise, posture and grace when she moved. Clothes hung on her beautifully because of her fantastic physical proportions. She was never awkward. Ive only watched a few episodes but I hope they can improve on this aspect because that physicality she developed as she got older is very important. It gave her persona strength and confidence. This now very poised woman had grown into her own person, free of others expectations - very conformable in who she had become embodied by her physical strength.

She’s just very tall (6’3”). I’m the same height, and when you’re that tall, it can make you look “lanky,” I suppose, but she always looks incredible to me.
