The position was no different regarding the girmityas who ended up in South Africa. Basically they were given false promises and most of them were treated worse than slaves. There are more Indians of India origin in South Africa than in any other country outside India and Pakistan. Thank you for your video.

@@nitinmishra7770 Thank you for your input. Nearly all South African girmitiyas were very poor and landed at Durban port, Natal in South Africa having only their cooking utensils and clothing as their only possessions. They worked in the sugar cane plantations from sunrise to sunset and were treated badly by most of their English employers but slowly worked their way up as middle class people. Today they are being sidelined by the present government when it comes to job and other opportunities and a large percentage are unemployed.

Very true, I am 3 generations away from girmityas that landed in Suriname from Uttar Pradesh now living in Canada but my children consider themselves Indian. We speak the same bhojpuri dialect like in Fiji. And know of families that were split up between Suriname and Fiji.
