Pre-eminent Forensic Anthropologist, Professor Dame Sue Black talks to Glasgow Science Centre about her life, experiences and interests.
In this interview, the author of "All That Remains: A Life in Death", tells us about an average day in her extraordinary life. She goes back to her childhood to tell us about what it was that got her into her line of work. Sue picks out the most rewarding point in her career and some of the toughest.
Sue explains how she keeps a distance from the often harrowing circumstances thrown-up by her work and describes how popular culture's fascination with forensic science - whilst peaking the human interest - often stretches into the realms of fantasy.
This is the first part in a set of three interviews with Prof. Sue Black. The second explores her thoughts on STEM, equality and celebrity, and the third on the need to disrupt science.
Part 2 of the interview (STEM Education, Equality & Celebrity) • An interview with Prof...
Part 3 (Disruption in Science) • An interview with Prof...

Even though she hated doing History Cold Case and felt it was dumbed down, I’m happy she did it because I learnt some things and have followed her other appearances on KZfaq ( learning a bit more on the way) and have now ordered one of her books, which I’m looking forward to reading.

Good Lord, I'm so grateful for people like the professor. I know watching evidence of child or even adult sexual abuse would be beyond me. I might be able to do some things but that's a bridge too far for me. Thank goodness for people like her!

The family from Kosovo. Just one RPG? Were they enclosed in a trailer? Was the RPG "air blasted" with a timer?(Fuse) This is why I find great humor with people when they say they are using an RPG to blow something up. The U.S. government would not allow an RPG in the United States.

I will pardon your misspelling of dissect, then. I would have rather adopted the fetal pig than dissect it. My zoology teacher told me they’d rather we dissect a man, but human corpses were not in the budget, so they had us dissect the closest thing to a man, he said.
