Everyone in Britain is protected from discrimination, harassment and victimisation under the Equality Act 2010. If you are disabled, you have additional rights, such as the right to reasonable adjustments. You can find out more about this and other important sections of the Equality Act through our website or our other videos.

I needed to know about this because I have social anxiety disorder and depression but my place doesn’t care about my disability they think I am faking it and my manager always mocks my disability what shall I do?

I fully sympathise because social anxiety disorder can actually cause you to be unable to speak up or even to hold a conversation because of the overwhelming anxiety. People who suffer with this may go bright red or stutter in 'normal' situations. People who fully understand phobias such as a fear of heights or public speaking, most often do not understand social anxiety disorder and those suffering from it are seen as odd. It is a torture. If you have been diagnosed by your GP, make sure that this diagnosis is recorded in written form and submitted to HR or management at your workplace. Consult the anti bullying policy in your workplace, get advice from your union representative if you have one, and keep a diary, recording every instance that belittles you or makes you feel uncomfortable in your workplace. You may be able to get more advice from specific helplines or citizens advice. I'm just throwing out some ideas. Good luck with improving your situation.

This video really should mention discrimination arising from disability explicitly. I know it’s a complex law but it’s so important for disabled people who are constantly fighting against the altitude ‘we’re not discriminating against you if we’re treating you the same.’ It’s supper important especially for individuals with hidden disabilities like autism who might, for example, get banned from a shop for having a meltdown. There just isn’t enough awareness that this sort of thing is discrimination and it seems to me you just missed an opportunity to help fix that.
