I agree. There's a lot about the UK and I get that it's the main focus of the channel, but I'd like to see more about wider European politics. I think that for too long, both in relation to the wider world, but also in relation to one another, we've let Britain act as a sort of intermediary. We should get to know each other better and with the rest of the world directly, without their intercession. At the end of the day, this was the UK's biggest asset: the soft power they got through cultural influence, through their language. This gave them control, but we don't need them.

I have never agreed with terrorism or violence but in the past I was judged to be just that because of my Irish passport. I never want that to happen to anyone else. I'm mid thirties so have some recollection of that attitude, probably not as bad as you though. That attitude was very ignorant as obviously there is nothing in Irish culture that steers us towards shootings and making bombs, the IRA believed they were fighting an occupation hence their armed resistance. On the other hand, some of the reasons we are less than enthusiastic about unknown quantities from extreme cultures, very different to our own coming here is the customs they think are normal... I spent a bit of time in Afghanistan, generally they are nice people, locals, ANA etc.. however they dont think there is anything wrong with "honour killings", bacha bazi is rampant in the provinces (not so much in Kabul) in case you dont know this is the practice of married men having sex with teenage boys either against their will or under the influence of drugs the men give them on Thursday nights.. since it's not condemned the boys grow up thinking it's normal and go on to do the same.. according to them it's not gay "women are for children... " I wont repeat the end of that sentence I was told...Ironic that Islam is so over the top in its condemnation of the gay community, wonder why ? A country like that, that's whole culture over 100's of years was dominated by war have a totally different perception of violence in their everyday comings and goings than us... This is a country I have experience with but a lot of the immigrants coming here are coming from similar locations.. Consider this, If they are really geniuinely fleeing for their lives you'd think it would sink in that maybe their culture has something to do with the threat they are under and to leave it behind them...
