Erusea is basically France and Italy combined, and btw the Space Elevator is the Eiffel Tower of the Strangereal Universe.

@@tylerrose4416 Yuktobania is the Strangereal equivalent of Russia. Estovakia is based on Romania, which might explain why the Razgriz theme is sung in Latin, since the Romanian and Latin languages are known to have many similarities. Also the nickname "Stovies" comes from "Estovakia," whereas the nickname "Sovies" is derived from "Soviet." The Soviets don't exist in Strangereal, and the Soviet Union was more than just Russia.

Yuktobania even has the accents! At least in the cutscenes... I feel like the enemy radio chatter you hear in missions is just the enemy talking in their native languages, but you hear them in English just for immerson/plot. Yuktobanians speaking Russian, Belkans speaking German, and Eruseans speaking French.

the fact that Trigger has never seen combat is exactly why he still has a cool callsign, if he had seen combat there is a 90% chance a new pilot like him would have done something stupid and gotten "donated" a new one.

My headcanon is that he got that callsign in training for having an itchy trigger finger - like many newbie Ace Combat players, he wastes a lot of missiles on high-angle shots instead of getting on the enemy's tail properly.

Something to throw in, the DLC missions also improve on the allied AI. In every mission you can actually see them taking out enemies, Count will even kill an EA-18 in Unexpected Visitor(scripted but still cool)

Thanks for mentioning! I wasn't even thinking about the AI in the DLC, but yeah, they're better and their low damage compared to the player is much more well-hidden, especially since they're not just endlessly strafing the Alicorn in SP03 like in M19.

Serothel yeah really became clear after coming back from AC6, where the AI almost stole your kills. I really think it makes the idea that the player is an exceptional pilot feel artificial if you’re basically the only pilot that can even damage the enemy.

@@Cuckler Right on the money. Buddy AI is a difficult balancing act, and I think 6 and 7 both overcorrected from 0 in different directions. Shamrock in AC6 is probably too good, but AC7 buddies may as well not exist for how ineffective they are. Hopefully PA nails the balance in 8

I flew with standard controls once, in AC 4. I found myself upside down headed to the ground; a simple roll would have corrected this problem. I slammed into the ground because you can't roll in standard. Never again, ever.

Yep! I tell everybody who asks me about it that expert controls take a little more getting used to, but are much, much better in the long run, and it's stuff like this that's why.

Yeah, it's rare that a DLC comes in and outdoes the base game, but I think in terms of both missions and music AC7's DLC hits it out of the park. Really looking forward to AC8 if the DLC is a preview of what to expect.

This was my first Ace Combat game, I bought it after watching a playthrough during which 2 things stood out to me, those being the gameplay and the music. I will buy whatever Project Aces comes up with next because this game is my fucking jam and I need more of it and I will make more of it myself if I goddamn have to.

I suggest you download PCSX2 and go to Vimm's Lair to get the holy trilogy of AC4, AC5 and ACZ. ACZ has aged fairly well.

Serothel well to them, any game that don’t have a tutorial or any objective indicator, they just call it ‘The Dark Soul of (insert game genre)’, in this case, they call it ‘The Dark Soul of flight game’. Oh they play it on novice control on easy diff, and they say it was ‘Too hard to play, even the story is hard to catch up with’, and they stated that they skipped all cutscene and don’t understand anything about the story

@@hieuuc2539 To be as...fair as possible, which is indeed more fair than they deserve, but still, one should try, this is the first game to really have required reading/playing to understand characters and reasoning. For instance, Former President Harling is given a big focus in one mission, and one mission only, but then after it, well, he's only important for the name of a thought experiment, so why he's important beyond that isn't obvious. Of course, to anyone who did play 5, the best selling in the franchise I think, his inclusion was a nice bit of fan service, though the answer to the thought experiment, Harling's Mirror, is obvious. Or the Stonehenge itself. What is it, and where did it come from? Why is only one gun active on the thing. If all you played was this one, well, it's just something you use in that one mission. Note, as a fan of this series, I loved all this, but I do understand why people might be a bit confused. That said, I also would have liked a very easy mode myself, mostly for replays, as I enjoy playing through 4, 5, and 0 in that mode, feeling like the Ace of Aces, every missile is a kill...if I can hit with it anyway, and I tear through the forces of Belka, Yuktobania, Eurasia, and World With No Borders. Also, really wish the Parts system was expanded more than a bit. The fact that the campaign only lets you have level 1 parts, and they have minor effects unless they're single level enhancements like the stealth upgrade and the missile lock on neutralizer, really is somewhat disappointing for someone coming in from Infinity that tried hard to allow the upgrades to really make your plane shine.

@@dylansorenson2001 Heh, I wasn't saying I was confused by it, it was just an example of what people might question if this was their only Ace Combat game, as this one has references and callbacks that are both subtle and not so subtle. I fought for ISAF and the Continent, I took Yellow 4 out of the skies about the big gun, and later one, I got Yellow 13 too, the smug git.

When I booted up the DLC and saw that opening, I knew it was going to be something special. I played Anchorhead Raid so many times to get that S rank, but never got frustrated and had a blast every attempt I made.

Finally someone who enjoys first contact as much as i did, everything came together really well on that level and as you said it felt the least bullshit out of all the Mihali duels. Weaving through the canyon in a low tier jet you had to earn each hit. Also, surprisingly well done vid considering you only have 4. Subbed for more.

Russia is Yuktobania. Erusea is a mixture of France and Italy in culture and language, but not in military history at least. Just read the name of some of their people: Rosa Cosette D'Elise, Matias Torres (Spain is represented as Sapin, still), etc. And the song Rosa and Mihály's grand daughters sing is in French.

One thing they could have done during the Anchorhead Bay Mission is have Bandog show up with a new Spare Squadron to kill Labarathe only to then target Trigger and Count because....y’know.....it’s Bandog, what do ya expect?

I'm nearly 4 years late to the party here but this basically nailed all of the issues I've had with the game, including ones I knew I had but never "vocalized" to myself. Like the FBI bust that should have happened. The plot armor was the biggest turnoff for me, so I just tolerate the fights with Mihaly, which is a shame. Great presentation.

Awesome review! Glad you mentioned the DLC. However, how come you didn't mention the Multiplayer or VR segments?

Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed the video. I didn't mention VR because I'm on PC and didn't have access to the missions. It doesn't seem fair to critique something I couldn't play myself. As for multiplayer, I wanted to keep the video under 20m and didn't feel strongly about it so it got cut. I wish it was more like AC Infinity, but as is it's just kinda... there.

I am a person who enjoys mostly ww2 flight sims and I love this game. VR support for PC would be awesome and I would love for a bit more realistic flight dynamics like needing to go high to go really fast, limited afterburners and different plane handling at different speeds (kinda there but more) and altitudes. Also a caveat of no longer unlimited afterburner is that energy management would be a thing. And that would be awesome. On the upside, aircrafts fly differently from one another, there are no wrong choices for aircraft. Even the starter F-16 is very good and you can finish the game with it if you want to. I love the viper (used to play Falcon 4 BMS) and I basically haven't "upgraded". The game is good enough to teach you about simple air combat manoeuvres and how dogfighting works. The AI can put up a challenge and combat resembles to me a bit of what a ww2 pilot would imagine jet combat would look like. I would like a bit more energy management but just yesterday I found myself fighting against an "ace" and got into rolling scissors with him where I was able to use the Viper's much better roll rate to shoot down the large Flanker. And the game runs like butter and is fucking gorgeous... Honestly I just get on the cockpit view and climb as high as I can and just enjoy the scenery. Beautiful game. And that soundtrack... Damn...

Good review i watched Max0r's incorrect summary of ac7 and i bought the game because of his review Ac7 is my first ac game, the ost hooked me into an unfamiliar genre in videogames. i am just a sucker for quality ost like blue reflection, red dead, metal gear rising, dmc5, nier, atelier ryza, and doom eternal/2016.

The crazy thing about AC7 is it literally only exists because of what a comeback Infinity turned out to be. 7 was announced at the height of Infinity's popularity in 2015 or so, as a PS4 exclusive, out of pretty much nowhere because everyone expected Infinity to be the series' last title. In the end, we sacrificed Infinity (which I never had the opportunity to play) to have AC7. What's even better is the DLC missions were easily worth the price of admission. They are respectively the best missions of their types IMO - dethroning both visits to B7R and Camona for dogfighting, Whiskey Corridor and Invincible Fleet for air-to-surface destruction, and Hrimfaxi for a submarine boss. The fact that the visit to Stonehenge is Mission 12 is a nice touch though.

Do the guns have different sounds? I'd like the games to have different sounds from the Mauser BK-27 on the Typhoon to the GSH-30-2 on the MiG-21 and the venerable M61 Vulcan.

I believe there's only two MGs as far as the game is concerned, a "fast" MG with high ammo/high ROF/low dmg and a "slow" MG with low ammo/low ROF/high dmg. These sound different from each other, but AFAIK there are no different sounds between airframes - not even the A-10C unfortunately.
