Unfortunately, that is the point. Without anyone on the bottom, who would the middle class belittle to make the fact that the are barely making it worth their time? The system is doing what it was designed to do. Luckily it won't survive many more generation, I'm just rooting on a positive outcome. Hope is all most have, or we wouldn't be here, watching these millionaires enjoy their caviar on there luxury yacht while continuing to earn thousands if not millions per day all whilst doing nothing. The only way to make money, real money, in todays society, is to have money to start with. People once had a chance, even if on a 0.000001% chance of climbing the rungs out of poverty. Currently, most of the low class still see themselves as middle class while their wealth is being extracted at ever increasing rates.

Inflation….. NYC isn’t cheap. One bedroom is almost 2k, there also electricity and phone. The subways are almost $3 a ride. I mean there are many more things. Groceries are highly expensive here. Spent 63 dollars the other day, that’s stretching to 4 days worth of food. A box of cereal is $9 and had to get half a gallon of milk and that’s almost $5. It cost almost $120-$140 a week just in food for only me and I only weight 140lbs, as I’m already underweight. There are MANY more examples…

As a former food stamp and goverment assistance person, yes, most people I knew on it could work. I hated it. And turning them in resulting in nothing. Granted I realize there isn't enough people to follow these people around and see if they are honest or not. Many people on food stamps would give their card to someone and that person would buy stuff for themselves. In return they would buy beer and cigarettes for the person. Others had doctors who LIED about what issues they had so the person could get on assistance. In some cases people lied to their doctors and pretended to have various mental issues as it easily gets you assistance. This is why I said being on assistance is a prison in many ways. 1. Dealing with the government means jumping through many loopholes EVERY month to stay on them. Including traveling to a certain location, in my case, IU can't drive so I had to make sure the buses were eon time. And that of course I wasn't sick and could make said appointment. Granted I realize its strict for a reason. 2. Dealing with others on assistance who really didn't need it and bragged about how they cheat system. And dealing with the fact the government didn't stop their assistance. 3. Dealing with every day people who assume ALL people on assistance are faking whatever to get it. True, many faked it of course. But being judged because of the idiots who were on it, it was annoying. I lost my assistance when my wife started making to much. Not a complaint mind you. It's stress free to be off of it. However the only issue is my wife is an immigrant who went into debt on accident. So we can barley afford rent. So not at least having free healthcare is costing us so much. Even with her good insurance. I also never understood how working people could get them. You serious? Before I got married I was living with my parents and disabled. I had zero income, so I couldn't afford food. Yet working people were still able to get them. I think if your working and on them, maybe they force you into financial counseling where they look at your spending habits. Then if the counselor determines your not mispending money (beer, drugs, luxuries....etc), you MAY have a chance at getting food stamps. I also know of people who also don't care if someone really is disabled and needs assistance. They say they don't want their taxes helping anyone. They feel everyone should work to stay alive, again, no matter how legit their issue is. Those people kind of annoy me because its like, why don' you whine about the real waste of your tax money. Like all the other garabge it supports. Like our ridiculous military spending. Growing up I think 7% of spending was on welfare programs. It's like 20% now. So still a smaller cut of of the pie. I don't know how anyone on assistance, who is faking it, can deal with the stress of a crappy lifestyle.

@ReshyShira 24 күн бұрын
There's two reasons for this I suspect, one more obvious in that it's a bad economy so being *able* to work is entirely different from being able to *find* work. Second issue is less obvious but the way food stamps are calculated is pretty reductive, basically if you're working anything but the minimum amount of hours and wage you get next to nothing from foodstamps due to how they're calculated.

I am also pretty seriously physically disabled and get that(which is the min. you get if you qualify)and it's because my SSDI amount and low living costs mean i have a decent amount of free cash. It's not the taxpayer responsibility to give me or you free food just because of being disabled. I am fortunate in that even on disability I save about 4 to 500 a month. It would be ridiculous for me to get more Food Stamps when most American workers aren't so lucky just because I spend most of my time in a wheelchair.

Hell, I'm in Florida. I'm disabled as my husband is, both at a younger age. Together, we make waaaay under what is required to receive any benefits besides Medicare. I'm not even qualified for Medicaid. The reason? I refuse to lie on the forms. Most that get these benefits get them in the wrong manner. I can barely keep weight on. It pisses me off. We're seen as "able" because we're young with no visible disabilities. The judgments are swift and cut to the core. We even got yelled at by a man in a wheelchair, even though our disability placard was clearly displayed. It's getting worse every election year.

Question is...if I work hard for my money...should my government be allowed to take it? If paying my taxes keeps the roads in good shape, fine. But if I'm paying for some lazy fk to continue to be lazy...screw that. There are a lot of disputes about what the basics are. Personally I don't even agree with this mindset because we wouldn't apply it to literally anything else. No one is going to want to pay for a moldy strawberry in the box just so it gets the same chance as other strawberries. No one wants to buy a table set where one chair is broken and can't be sat upon. If you want output you need to supply some input, we can debate what that input should be, but people wanting something merely for existing is a problem.

I actually make a pretty good living with all of that, but I can’t work more hours or else I’ll end up making less money. If one works but does not make a lot of money, they still can be eligible for food stamps and Medicaid. Also, to receive food stamps the easiest way is to have a child under the age of 18 in the household. All you need to have in the household is one child. Thus, if you have more than one child, you will see others that are said to be under the care of aunts, grandmothers, etc. They become eligible for long term. The main problem I see with the food stamp program is that you will have a young couple, no children and underemployed, they are only eligible for three months of benefits. We need to take better care of this group.

Just a note, the national defense budget is nearly equal to the current welfare budget. $849.8 b(NDB)/$1.101 t(NWB) and note that the (NWB) goes to more than just Medicaid/Medicare/SSI/SSDI/Foodstamps(SNAP) While the national defense budget largely has been used to hold the usa's position as the one with the biggest stick. That said I am on SSDI and bloody HATE it!! Can't go to the doctor when I need to, only when it's most convenient for the 1 office that will accept the insurance like 4-5 months down the road and 2-3 hours from my home. Can't afford to do anything, not that I could easily in the first place because of my disability. And I have to deal with people who's never seen/met me try telling me im just faking this that and any other thing. I don't want to be disabled, I WANT TO GO BACK TO WORK!! I had some involvement with the food stamps reddit boards for a time. And it is a program that helps a lot of needy people. But there are also such broad rules that at times are ridiculous. For instance I remember a college kid going to Berkeley his family was paying his full tuition/books etc and he talked about having a 50k trust fund designed to pay for housing. And he wanted to know if he could get Food Stamps(and yes he qualified) because in his words he didn't want to work since he wanted to focus on school. Nor did he want to take student loans. More then happy to put it on the public dime with a 50k Trust and his family paying for his 4 years at U.S.C. Berkeley which cost about 200k dollars. Yep makes sense. Note this was during Covid so rules were much more relaxed but was still ridiculous.

Why pay money to a nation that rewards you with more debt? We need to somehow find a way for our tax dollars to make the government rich and the people threw it. The government uses tax money to create a product to then sell to other nations and countries. Everyone pays the same amount that would the be the least amount needed to slowly get rid of the national debt. When that happens everyone would start getting money back. We need to start creating incentives for people to come here and pay taxes and make it impossible to avoid paying and punish and hold accountable those who avoid it or better yet kljust make it more worth it to pay into it.

Pretty much the same thing here in the UK, We are in a cost of living crisis also you have lots of good and righteous people who are working 1 or 2 jobs and still end up at food banks to make ends meet. I can't shake the feeling that this is all planned by the champagne & caviar crew

Not surprising given the push for child labor recently. When they consider an 8 year old a non-working unit.....

Are corp supposed to reward the people with no education or skill because they have money? Why are people so entitled? You don’t paid because you think you ‘deserve’ it. You get paid at your skill level. Do better.

@@dcg590 it's gotta make sense to work for these people. Some benefit for trying, instead you're punished for working. It's not just inexperienced kids working retail or for a stingy Corp. Most guys in construction live paycheck to paycheck

Inflation eats the food stamp off where the food stamps could last you a month.But now the food stamps last two weeks if you're lucky with a household of five it doesn't go far four hundred dollars

An additional problem is that the nation also has too many illiterate and low-skilled people and a bad, unaccountable educational system in additional to unaccountable, irresponsible parents who allow their children to disregard the value of being educated and skilled. Once they are grown it's often too late and very difficult to reverse course. It's a big cyclical mess.

I completely believe what you're saying that most these people could are able to work but when a single person is trying to manage everything paying all their own utilities their car costs and whatever else is required rent and we make too much to get food stamps that's what's sad The system is rigged if you go out and actually work on minimum wage you make too much if you're single for food stamps

Min wage is under $8.00 an hour in some states by law!
@matthewlingelbach4761
@matthewlingelbach4761 23 күн бұрын
Minimum wage is $7.25 in most states. Despite this, most states pay closer to $11.00. Despite no legal obligation, to pay less than that means the employees won't be willing to work there. States like California, now $20 an hour I do believe, and New York, at the $16 dollar an hour Cali was just at, have a ridiculous cost of living compared to others. The system isn't designed for all people to rise out of poverty, then who would the rich have to blame for all the problem with society? The system is working exactly as it was designed.

@@honeybee5099 Federal is %7.25. San Fran is in Cali, which is fighting for a %20 dollar minimum wage, but if its not $20 yet, that means your minimum is still $16 as last reported. You may make $18 in city limits, but that information isn't provided without a specific search for that area. I was only stating the State minimum wage, not every single city. Doesn't surprise me that San Fran would be ahead of the rest of Cali on this though.

There are some people who have small kids not in school daycare is incredibly expensive plus rent and everything else that you need to pay for right but if you go to work and get a minimum wage job its impossible to pay for everything and then if you make just a little money you don't get food stamps but if you started working when you were 14 and then you need assistance until your kids are all in a full day of school but some ppl do more than just food stamps they take advantage of all government benefits like not just food stamps but snap cash rent bills etc but if you don't have kids and can work they make you work so many hours or do some sorta schooling or job courses to recieve food stamps
