One of the more interesting tactical openings that exist, with a bit of a flaw: whom actually decides this comes on the board? >White< has to be a Vienna player (2.Nc3), not a Vienna Gambit player (=/ 3.f4) and thus willingly play into the Frankenstein-Dracula with 3.Bc4, but then >Black< has the option to neutralize it completely with 3....Nc6 or Bc5, or as mentioned 5....Be7. Objectively, the latter is the best move. The reason this is so rare both players have a say in this line and 5....Nc6 is just not the best move for Black.

Like, the guy playing black in the game in this video seems to not really get the point of the opening. Black is not supposed to trade things off into an endgame, it's a variation you play to get a massive attack and go for mate

I think it's called that because it has a similar idea to the Halloween gambit.

Hi Nelson, I have a suggestion for a video There is a crazy gambit called Black Knight's Gambit (1. e4 e5 2. Nf3 Nc6 3. Bc4 Nf6 4. Ng5 Nxe4) and it has a lot of crazy lines

Very cool video! I love this line and find the complications interesting as well. The only issue is that if I make it to 3. Bc4 most of my opponents just play Nc6 or occasionally Bc5 going for usual development, so I have never played the line in a game unfortunately

As some of the other commenters pointed out, it's not common for black to get the opportunity to play this. If white plays the Vienna move order (2.Nc3), then most of the time after 2...Nf6 they're playing the Vienna Gambit 3.f5 d5 4.fxe5 Nxe4 and what's popular now is 5.Qf3. And if white plays the Bishop's Opening move order, 2.Bc4, then after 2...Nf6 they usually go for the "positional" line 3.d3. As it is, the Vienna and Bishop's Opening are relatively rare, and the frequency of white playing both Bc4 and Nc3 before playing d3 is even lower.

I like to play 3...Nxe4 in the hope that Black plays one of the suboptimal lines like 4.Nxe4 or 4.Bxf7, but if he plays 4.Qh5 Nd6 5.Bb3, I know that he has studied the theory, and I avoid it with 5...Be7. The risky variation 5...Nc6 isn't completely sound anyways, so if white does indeed know his theory, black will be in as much trouble as white.

@joeldick6871 22 күн бұрын
I saw this opening in David Bronstein's book 200 Open Games, but he played 7...f6 instead of 7...f5, but that didn't work out very well for him because 8.Nxc7+ Qxc7 9.Qxf6 and black is losing the rook. Bronstein still managed to win it. It's Mukhin - Bronstein Moscow 1959.

If the king goes directly to the left, then black loses a queen by skewer with the white bishop. If the king goes to e8 there are lots of checks threatening an eventual checkmate. King to e6 there's a knight check and you king is getting closer and closer to the center.
