Idk if its just me, but gliding feels way better in 7 then 8. Maybe its just the tracks and many of them wanting you to glide longer for shortcuts, but I felt like there was more to do with how I traveled in the air compared to 8 where it just feels like a graceful jump. I mostly miss it for the tracks though, especially that rainbow road, hope we see it in 8.

The 3DS was a huge hit, so I wouldn't necesssrily say its forgotten. Honestly tho, it doesn't get the credit it deserves nor is mentioned as often as it should.

I don't mind the game not having Waluigi, but it definitely feels weird without him. But I really love the game! The game's very underrated in my opinion because it has the best selection of retro tracks, and awesome original tracks and the best rainbow road. My main problem is that it doesn't has single player vs. 11:13 Also me!

It’s nice that Nintendo kept the 3ds online. One of the only pro consumer tactics last year.

Honestly the most underrated game in the series. My third favorite in the series for numerous reasons, aside just nostalgia. IT WAS A DANG GOOD GAME. Idk it was just so original and the track selection OMFG it was so good!!! Both nitro and retro tracks are absolutely phenomenal!

I love this game, back then, it really felt like having a home console game on a portable because of how similar its graphics are to Wii. And today, the colors are bright and pretty, the 3D effect looks great and it has some of my favorite tracks ever, both new and retro.

Waluigi was removed due to time limits. They likely put Metal Mario in his place due to how easy it would be to just recolour Mario and edit his voice a little.

i remember playing arcade dx at dave and busters, and making sure i wasn’t stuck with the cabinet without the pedal. it is actually one of my favorites and even has a two player co-op mode. i’m excited for the next episode, because dx is a hidden gem for sure! keep up the great content!

This game is still good in the fact that it introduced the gliding and underwater mechanics, but in my opinion, I like Super Mario Kart better because it is based more on skill than item luck. Outstanding analysis of the game, by the way.

My personal favourite, because while it lacks Waluigi, single-player content and classic car selection, I still love the roster for how unique it is (I always main Honey Queen). Not only did the game also introduce two of the most important staples to this day (underwater and gliding), but it also has by far the best tracks, soundtrack and gameplay. Controlling the cart feels so much more fluid in this game than in the other, thanks to how you can actually do both automatic and manual drift, which means you can cut sharp corners if you aren't fast enough. Not to mention that Mario Kart 7 is so far the only Mario Kart game with free and functioning online. Basically, it's the best for the small details that people don't notice often, but which are really important.

MK 7 is probably my most played Mario kart, I love the kart customizations! Also, after the Nintendo direct February 2022 announcing new tracks for MK 8 deluxe, lots of people are playing 7 online again!

The Mario Kart series has always held a special place in my heart. The very first videogame I ever played was Mario Kart N64 when 3 year old me could first get his stubby fingers on the controller playing multi-player with my dad. Then on my 8th birthday I finally got the og 3DS with MK7 as my first game. I played the hell out of that game, including online. Man I was killing it in online, even beating hackers a few times. It's not the best objectively, but MK7 is my favorite of the series, only for all the nostalgia that comes with it. It carried my childhood.

Don't forget that if you play online, all you see is metal mario players and they could have all been Waluigi players ......

Mario Kart 7 was my first game on the 3DS. I remember being hyped about it in 2011. How do I like it now? Well, similar to you, I find 7 difficult to go back to. Incidentally, it has nothing to do with the absence of Waluigi, nor do I hate Metal Mario; he's actually my favorite driver here. Rather, the lack of single-player VS. limits my enjoyment for it. It's funny; I have no problems doing Grand Prix in 64 or Double Dash!!, but I've grown rather fond of selecting courses to my liking since DS. Even Super Circuit had a makeshift version of it. Despite that, I still like Mario Kart 7. The Super Leaf is a fun item, the presentation is lovely, I enjoy many of its courses, and it was a fine way to start my run of the Nintendo 3DS.

Mario Kart 7 was basically my first video game. The only games I really played before this was Wii Sports, Cars Race O Rama and I think Monster Truck 4x4 Rally...I don't even remember what it was called. I played all those games on my Wii. I got a 3DS for Christmas of 2011 and Mario Kart 7. This was my first Mario game that I ever owned and since then I have become a huge Mario fan. I really do still like Mario Kart 7 but I would be lying if a said that it was better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. I just thought that I had to write something here to commemorate Mario Kart 7 for bringing me into the Mario series!

The missing single player vs mode is so baffling and the reason I don't play it more on the go than the DS version. Mario Kart DS was THE time killer, solely due to VS mode. When I had to attend Jury duty, though I wasn't selected, all day I spent in the selection room I was playing the DS version. I can't imagine playing 7 nowadays, especially now that 8DX makes 7 outclassed.

As someone who's first MK game was Mario Kart Wii,I was pretty disappointed by the lack of incentive to play time trials mode on MK7. In MKWii rewarded you for beating the ghost which not only encouraged me to play Time Trials,but it also taught me how to play the tracks even better. I was just so disappointed that I didn't really get anything special for beating the regular staff ghost and even the fast staff ghost. I know that the other games didn't have that feature,but I thought what Mario Kart Wii did to incentivize playing time trials,at least casually,was just a great idea.

MK7 was the first Mario Kart I owned (though the first one I played was DS, with the "download mode"), and it's quite nostalgic to me. You mentioned the lack of singleplayer content, and while it's true that it has less than its predecessors, I think there's still quite a lot to do. As a kid, I played the hell out of it, trying to get 3 stars on everything and becoming addicted to the battle mode, haha. Though I guess all of us got addicted to our first Mario Kart game. Though it's not my favourite one, MKWii is.

I know why 7 is so forgotten. Mario Kart 8 is basically a perfected MK7 and nobody really wants to go back to it. 8 has very near the same physics, many of 7's best tracks, and waluigi.

Happy New Year Demeech! This entry has a special place with me. It was the title that made me get a 2DSXL and fall back in love with Nintendo.

Got this game for Christmas 2011 with the original blue 3DS and still have MK7 today. Sadly during a vlog, I slipped on some black ice and fell backwards, landing on my bag which had my 3DS in (which was in its own case as well) and it broke the top screen 😭 Luckily in 2017, the New 2DS XL came out and replaced my 3DS

While Mario Kart 7 did introduce things that’d be staples in future games (though one of those staples are Metal Mario), it really does feel like just another Mario Kart with only the basic content a Mario Kart game would have

I saw somewhere on the Super Mario Wiki that Waluigi was actually planned to be in the game but was cut due to time restrains. So I'm kind of convinced we got Metal Mario as an....admittedly REALLY crappy substitute. Really should have been Birdo, Toadette or Dry Bones instead... Or better yet, Boom-Boom since he made his return finally in 3D Land and Mario Kart has usually had characters that were in that console's main series game as newcomers for that iteration. So Boom-Boom & Pom-Pom would have been perfect for MK7 imo. But as you said, MK7 was sort of a turning point in the Mario Kart series in terms of how they do things, so I guess that also meant a break in that tradition too...which is quite unfortunate honestly. Anyway, you do bring up a great point. Why in the world didn't they update the game to have single player vs. mode? They made multiple updates & patches to the game, so they definitely had the power to add the mode back in... And honestly, I feel a lot of the retro tracks lost a good amount of their charm being here on the 3DS. They removed a lot of the background elements from them (especially the Wii tracks), so they just seem off to me. Really MK7 as a whole seems like a lot of missed potential. Especially since it doesn't come anywhere close to re-capturing the magic that made DS so special. I don't hate the game at all. But like you and others have said, it's quite forgettable. Also, I have to say...FINALLY someone who isn't blaming Honey Queen for Waluigi not being in the game. Thank you Xp

Absolutely love this game. The tracks that don't have laps reminded me of the first forza that had similar tracks. The gliding is great 👍 looks fantastic for a portable title. And sneaking retro studios in was a pleasant surprise.

I disagree that Mario Kart 7 is worse than the DS one. Mario Kart DS was incredibly unforgiving even for small mistakes. If you get hit by an item, you most likely end up loosing the entire cup. You also HAVE TO win the cup to unlock all the tracks. In Mario Kart 7 they balanced the difficulty, added better controls, memorable tracks and a decent online mode as well. It was also one of the few games that actually made me wanna turn on the 3D effect. Mario Kart DS was a nice game back in the day and I loved playing it back in the day, but when comparing it to Mario Kart 7, it's just not that good.

Fun fact: *Clones don't steal or take slots,* Metal Mario isn't to blame for Waluigi's absence. I wish people would understand this.
