The film describes the different areas in which officers may specialise, but focuses on maintaining the then-new Tornado ground attack aircraft. Engineering officer cadets are shown in training at the RAF College Cranwell, before moving on to the Tornado Tri-national Training Establishment (TTTE) at RAF Cottesmore, set up to train pilots from the UK, West Germany and Italy on the aircraft. An RAF engineering officer is shown liaising with the civilian manufacturer of the Tornado to ensure that RAF requirements are met, another is shown conducting acceptance checks on new aircraft and others carry out battle damage repair trials. The film ends with a look at the work of communications specialists, including a field exercise.
