Laura, here's another huge way to research antique items: watch old movies! For years I used an old 1940s burgundy/white/gold leaf set of Homer Laughlin dishes daily. I'll never forget the time I was in a theatre in LA watching an old movie and almost jumped out of my seat, "hey, the crime boss has my dishes!" Seriously though, old movies and TV shows are both fun and fascinating! I found a set of 1970s coffee mugs recently which were EXACTLY like the ones TV detective Mannix and his secretary use! Those Haviland dishes are rimmed with real gold! And they are probably 19th century. It amazes me that such old things even survive the trip to a thrift store. Imagine all those flowers, painted by hand! The artistry is mind-boggling to the modern mindset. Who has the patience to create such incredible detail anymore? That's my favorite find from today, though the English document holder is close! Surprisingly large numbers of beautiful old things just didn't have a well-known designer behind them. Your lamp looks like it says "Chu" but that doesn't google at all (as I'm sure you know LOL). "Ghu" is also possible? I think it'll go for a great price regardless. It has such a classic MCM look and from years of vintage clothing selling, I know how important Parisian motifs were in that era. I love that it's from when lamps were big and "moderne", but still incorporated the 1940s-ish milk glass torchiere diffuser underneath a larger fabric shade. IIRC the style of top shade that would go with a lamp like yours would be a big cylinder--not bell shaped or flared, either a tweedy type beige or maybe bronze-colored--treated fabric with a metallic sheen. What do you think? Are you gonna put a top shade on it? Can't wait to see how you style it! Congrats on an amazing find! Re: tapestry jackets--I have been part of EVERY wave. In the 1980s, I wore tapestry granny boots with my tapestry jackets and coats (usually vintage '70s, as I preferred those styles to the '80s shorter length and big shoulder pads.)! I also collected 1950s tapestry coats! A lot of the nicest ones I found were from England. Tapestry was popular in the 90s too (Coldwater Creek and Chicos made tons of jackets) and around 2010 I got a lovely tapestry blazer, "boyfriend" styled, at a boutique in Sonoma! I think tapestry will always be "in". Remember tapestry VESTS? I loved those too! I'm surprised you didn't grab the two little green studio pottery bowls. So pretty! The blue crackle vase in the same shot was cute, too.

With the advent of big screen tvs, it is so fun to watch an old movie and really see the background decor. I swear the style on shows like the Dick Van Dyke show are just so back! I enjoyed your comment.

"Mannix" has some INCREDIBLE design, especially wallpaper & fabric. Sometimes I freeze the TV just to take a picture so I can show my boyfriend in the morning, and we can have a good laugh or appreciation. ("Mannix" comes on at, like, 2am here and I'm a night owl.)

AMAZING finds on this day trip!! You are absolutely in a HONEY hole for thrifting. It amazes me (and my husband) what you and Jesse find in your area. So lucky! Our area of the Midwest, they pull a majority of the good pieces for their online stores. We luck out now & then! And, yes . . . definitely dust from your linens this time around. Dust has a different look than actual orbs, such as those in your "The tour continues" trip posted 12 days ago. Just proof that we treasure an item as much as the original owner. Everything has some form of history . . . and we are curators of those precious pieces! It's our mission to keep those treasures alive! We are blessed to do what we do.❤

Love the pair of brass lamps and that single lamp shade. I think you need different shades for the brass lamps, though. Keep looking. And yes- start looking more at glass! I keep seeing you pass over pieces that should be investigated-

The wooden bowl with the cut out swirl is a kmitting bowl . One puts the yarn in the bowl ,tread the end through the two holes and back out around the swirl so the yarn does not tangle while knitting.

My mother-in-law made me a tapestry blanket coat out of a throw. It had black and white cows on it. 😁 I believe it was in the early 90s.

The woodin bowl with the swirl is used by knitters and crocheters. You put your yarn ball in the bowl and around the loop so when you pull on the yarn it doesn’t go all over the place. I have one.

The fabric for your tiki party dress is pretty awesome. That lamp is gorgeous. I appreciate that you do slow movement with your camera. I have vertigo and fast, erratic motion makes me nauseous. #TeamLaura

9:29 I like the patina on the wooden bowl. I would get butcher block oil and a light sandpaper or steel wool and clean and smooth it out.

I'm sure you don't want to move away from your business model, but it would be great to see you doa segment on working some of your restorstion projects, like that heavy wood bowl. It looks like it would be great. and even your wooden framers. Look at your restore instead of just the finifshed project. I always enjoy your posts.

I was in my local Walmart the other day and they sell those black and cream Thyme and Table plates. I was shocked to see them there, they are so cute. $5.46 for salad, $5.99 dinner.
