Please Note: Exploring Abandoned locations can be dangerous especially mines.Never enter a cave or mine without proper training and gear. There are many hidden dangers. I don't condone or encourage anyone to enter an Abandoned structure. Not only is safety a concern, but often times its illegal and when possible, I seek out permission. I simply go to document its history before it's gone and leave things the way I find them. I assume all the risks & responsibility in doing so. Please don't attempt to do this on your own.

I worked in coal mines out west in the early1980s. I don't see any roof bolts to support the roof so this must have been a very old mine. The timbers were not there to support the roof, but instead were indicators of a roof starting to come down. You would look for extreme compression of the cap pieces which were hammered in between the top of the timber and the roof. The cinder block walls were put there to direct airflow throughout the mine to direct the flow of incoming air. They would usually have man doors to allow access to different drives either to the intake or the return airway. If the coal seam pinched down between the rock too tight then they would drill and shoot the roof down to provide access to their mining equipment. Watch out for tunnel bunnies in the return airway. These were piles of human excrement that grew white mold like grass or weeds. We would get green hats who didn't know better to try to catch one. Once they grabbed it and realized what it was the stench would be almost incapacitating 😂. I believe this was an Eastern mine as the mines out west had much thicker seams seldom under 5 ft high.

That's hilarious. Hahaha. Yes, all these mines were abandoned from 1960 or earlier....

From the looks of the stuff you guys were finding in there that mine was abandoned not that very long ago? In the grand scheme of things per say. Nice presentation. It would probably take you 100 lifetimes to explore everything that's just in the Northern Field alone!

1960 or older. Maybe like 1964 at the latest here in the northern field!
