It's a play on the words of Jesus. "He that is not with me is against me. And he that gathers not with me scattereth abroad." Matt 12:30 From Anakin's virgin birth, to his eventual leading of a vast army of orders white and seemingly mindless soldiers, Lucas used the gnostics interpretation of the bible to turn good evil and evil good. To make the inflexibility of God's law to look like evil and overbearing control.
@nineleafclover
@nineleafclover 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, but Lucas knows a good villain line when he hears it. A lot of kids didn't live through the Bush years and won't be taught about them in detail, but they'll watch the prequels, and they'll know what happened and why it was so bad--even if they don't realize what's being referenced until later. Imagine one of those kids getting older and watching a clip of Bush saying that and recognizing it as the obviously insane thing Anakin said before he tried to kill his best friend.

@Spider-Flash yeah, it's a twist because God's Law is actually very basic and about loving him and loving each other. It's inflexible because it's perfect and the only reason s for breaking it is pure selfishness. On the other hand it works well in SW because the galactic government is not ruled by a perfect all knowing being but by imperfect peers. Inflexibility and inequality coupled with natural selfishness always leads to disaster.

Have you ever heard the tale of Anakin Skywalker the slave who aspired to knighthood? No, well that's not surprising few have. The tragedy Slave Knight, Anakin the Skywalker. The man with the greatest potential born as a slave. Who sought the freedom he believed was being a Jedi. To save all those to whom he cared the most for. But all he ever found was bondage. First from a petty slaver named Wado, then the very jedi whom he aspired to be, and then to the greatest Sith lord Sidous. All the while being as slave to to the force who cared not for its own son. You see all he ever wanted in life was the ability to control his own life, to stop the neverending loss, and death that came to all he cherished the most. To break his chains. But you see all he ever accomplished was to be bound by a new master. In truth he never found any meaningful sense of freedom until his death to protect his son.

@@emberfist8347 Exactly like how they hold an almost literally black-and-white view of the Force? If you read all the way back to the original Jet'ii, there was only ever the Force. One unified Force. The original "Dark side" users, way before the Sith culture began, were labeled as such by the "light side" users due to simply disagreeing on what place the "self" occupied in the Jet'ii philosophy. The light siders won the ensuing war and for the rest of time, denigrated anyone who so much as dipped their toe into dark side philosophy as a selfish, power-hungry monster. It helped that the Sith (actually a distinct culture of Force users whose philosophy was wholly separate from their use of the Force. Again, the Jedi simply conflated the two), tended to not be the best neighbors.

Some extreme people would say that the internet is like a tool, and humanity is an irresponsible child, using said tool, as a toy. Picture this. A child is using a socket wrench, and is spinning it like a madman, not using it for it's intended purpose. The father of said child, sees this, what should he do? Some say take the tool away and spank the kid, others say take it away but give the kid a talk about responsibly using it, others may even say just let the kid play with it until it breaks. Some say that humanity doesn't deserve this technology, the internet, until we learn how to use it responsibly. They say an external third party, needs to step in and do something, before things break. Who is this proverbial third party? Hell if I know, they could be aliens, reptillian overlords, the Government, God, the Devil, Allah, who ever. I'm just a human with a limited view of the world.

With everything going on in the US right now, everything you’ve described in this video hits close, Thor. I myself have been in arguments on social media with people who are quite literally like Anakin in that scene. They see everything in absolutes and anybody who dares to go against their ideology are enemies. They don’t care to have a rational discussion or to hear differing opinions. And they genuinely believe that they are on the right side of history.

You're remarkably humble with regard to your anonymity at Celebration, some people knew who you were bro, trust me. I couldn't agree more with your outlook about meeting someone with an open mind without prejudgements. I've always felt like an alien in this world where people around me, close to me, freely judged others and defended their right to do so. I truly felt like I was nuts, thinking what am I missing? How could I be so wrong, when it felt so right not to judge others? How could I feel so different? Naturally now I have friends who feel the same, who are relieved to see the awakening finally happening. And while I continue to disagree greatly with some of my family members, I haven't stopped talking to them and telling them I love them, andI trying endlessly to help them see beyond their bias. So far though, it''s not working. Anyway, you're one of my favorite KZfaqrs, if not the favorite. You are wise.

Master Thor, your presentation here is a breathe of FRESH AIR‼️ We have always been a polarized nation. However, since Neo-Cons rose in the 90’s and the Left’s inevitable response, the HARD OPINION, generally based on... NOTHING, but a “gut feeling” is so toxic and radicalizing that it begs the question, in the History of Modern Politics, since the 80’s, when those who are educated and informed were demonized for doing what I’m willing to bet they all wish their kids to aspire, WANTON IGNORANCE has run rampant. Based solely on that, HARD OPINIONS, with people who will simply NOT open their minds and hear what each other is saying has increased the Toxicity, certain politicians NEED to sew to remain in office. I’m also really stoked that you had a positive dialogue with people who are clearly out of their minds in liking that abomination. I also greatly appreciate that you played it cool. You never let your own, well founded, passion, cloud the discussion. That requires wisdom. Much Dap to you‼️‼️ Much L♥️VE to You and the Whole of Team Thor Skywalker‼️♥️✊🏼💯🙆🏻🥃🥃🥃

Thor, what you were describing in your conversations is pretty much the checklist of how to do it: 1) Actively listen to the person 2) Check for understanding - make sure you understand what they're saying and at the same time demonstrate that you're listening and receptive 3) Empathize - acknowledge the person's feelings and legitimize them 4) Counterpoint - present your side of the argument/policy 5) Propose a resolution/negotiate a resolution 6) Thank the person for their candor Or the mnemonic LAST: Listen Apologize Solve Thank

This is the ultimate Star Wars video. This is what I can only hope to hear from every Star Wars fan on social media who ever villified someone with the wrong opinion in their eyes. It's exactly what Star Wars is all about: put down the weapon, see the other side. Evil will destroy itself, a Jedi need only defend those who can't defend themselves, as well as defend their own hearts and minds from being pulled into evil's cyclical corrupting power; based on fear, impatience, and ignorance. When you cling to posessions, status, and other entitlements of this world, you let fear of loss become your motive, and then you try to control everything around you, and you become unbalanced and start to crave power to be able to control as much of the world around you as possible, at all cost. Then you lose yourself in the dark side of existence: the fixation on the temporal, and you destroy yourself, taking the people closest to you down with you. That's the story of Star Wars.

Hey Thor, thanks for videos like this, especially this particular one. I completely agree with your main point here that “wouldn’t it be crazy if we taught ourselves, each other, and our kids to treat everyone with respect regardless...period. Because at the end of the day, we’re all one people.” It’s surprisingly not a popular notion and certainly one that isn’t being talked about on a large scale so thank you. The idea that we can celebrate our differences but be united by our similarities at the same time is something that most people can’t seem to wrap their heads around.

So true. I have lost friendships and accused of everything simply for not agreeing and defending myself for being bullied. My family and where I live are so toxic to the point that even the Sith would rather do away with rather than deal with this sinister force. People are different and it is okay to have different beliefs as long as we care for one another by respecting each other and not bullying others into submission and making sideways remarks or mocking/shaming them. The internet has heightened political and ideological divisions but it is not the ultimate cause of it. Virtue signaling and elitism, be it intellectual or any other kind of elitism, has made people awful. I am reminded of the movie Joker and to some extent the religious wars of the modern era where every religious group had to prove to each other how 'pure' they were to be safe. This is no different.

Your ending point reminds me of a quote from my college history professor when he started lectures on the Cold War. "There are two kinds of people in this world. People who think they are right, and people who think they are right." Sadly cancel culture isn't a new issue, the internet and its ability to let people speak anonymously simply amplified it.

Another great video. I often feel a burn that Star Wars became one of the first big battlefronts of the current culture war, but on the other hand, the fact it was Star Wars - something I love and treasure so deeply - it gave me a much better perspective on how life (as in politics, media, news and now community) has devolved since 2015. If I hadn't been on the "wrong" side of the fandom thanks to how poor I found TFA, and if I hadn't been verbally attacked online, completely unwarranted, for daring to questions that film, I might still be looking at the world with one eye closed. We have to talk to one another, we have to exchange ideas and allow ourselves to be challenged, whether it's about Star Wars or anything else.

Thor, I have worked in customer service, both in person and on the phone, and I can tell you that I have run into a lot of people who did not treat me as a human. In fact, I've heard threats, threats of violence and death. I just worked at those places and did my job. I know it's not 100% on topic, but in my experience I have run into something you mentioned, that people don't always treat others as a human. I think what you're saying in the video is right. I talked to a close friend about episode 8, she loved it and I didn't. When I listened to her I took it all in, when I explained why I didn't like it I got "I can't believe you toxic fans." Am I toxic because I disagree with her? I deeply care about Star Wars and it's been a huge part of my life. I didn't disrespect her, I just said what I didn't like or talked about what doesn't make sense to me. It almost seems like an arms race from some of the comments I have seen. You don't like my point, well screw you....things like that. It just escalates and gets out of hand so fast. Maybe we could just agree to disagree... when you get down to it, both sides want what's best for something we love.
