I have always been curious about the Rytm and its workflow. You clearly demonstrate this machine is a gem! As always, it's not necessarily the device but the mind and hands behind it!!

I came from MPC to Elektron. And I have to admit, the workflow on Elektron is just so damn easy compared to MPC's. Thats just my view, there may be other people feeling it the exact opposite. But thats the nice thing, we have alot of choices and there is something for everybody.

Feel like MPC is a flawed workflow for creativity. I dreed sitting at MPC ONE. It's not inspiring and still feels like a vst/plug in daw host than an actual instrument. Lacks the tactile controls. Four knobs and buttons I can hardly read the labels on. (they are printed, not back lit or anything). It just isn't FUN. I wanted to get away from daw. Instead, all I ended up with was an 800.00 laptop shaped like a drum midi pad controller. LOL. I'm going to pick up The Analog Rytm I guess. It's as close to a machinedrum I can get and is much newer are far more options.

@@Curious_Skeptic Lately I had the "great" idea of using the MPC as a synth or drum machine to be controlled by my Digitakt. But no matter how I try, the thing just isn't up to it. It ignores the midi settings and listens to all midi channels. So if you want to control more than just the MPC via midi, it reacts to everything. The MPC is the only device with this problem. It has also been known for years that these problems exist. However, the average user does not notice this because he only uses it "standalone".

@ickebins6948 Hopefully, some other fool will be foolish to buy this thing so i can get some money back. Seems to be plenty of youtube gear brainwashing to go around on how great mpc gear is. Ipad pro and a nice audio interface would put this outdated backarse workstation to shame. Akai and their fan boys sure kept this box of promises going though.

@@Curious_Skeptic Well yeah it's "the old school mpc workflow" ... It has to be this bad because "we" want to make music like in the early 90s. And this is why it's only used to "make beats". Good luck to you, finding gear that makes you happy.

Analog Rytm is definitely a dope machine. I am of the opinion that it is the best drum machine out there at the moment, based on its features, especially if you do live performance. It is just incredible. I bought it after buying the Dave Smith Tempest and I had to sell the Tempest, because with the Rytm, I just did not need the Tempest anymore. Pair it with the Digitone and you have a beat of a combo.

@@mpchead it's actually slightly cheaper than the MPC X brand new. £1,399 for the Rytm and £1480 for the MPC X. I've already spent the money upgrading from my old car that was badly needed for the "in the car," test so I'll have to wait for another windfall lol. I've got a Digitakt and I definitely prefer this way of working. It just feels like there's just less distance between getting an idea and actually putting that idea into the sequence than in other kinds of samplers. Any step can be anything. That said, not having defined slices can make it harder to get those ideas going in the first place. But that's one of the things that I use my Zoom Sampletrak for. It's really easy to get a bunch of slices going on that. I usually sequence them from the Digitakt and then either sample that sequence directly or sample the original source into the Digitakt and recreate the chops there. I like it a lot. I've been very happy with my music since I set things up this way.

@@mpchead Thanks Marlow. I primarily use the Toraiz SP-16 and it is surprisingly great, even though it shares the polyphony problem with the Rytm and does not have plug-ins or VSTs. But then it also shares the step sequencer and programmable per-step trig function much like the Rytm. Sometimes limitation fade in light of other gained positives of these machines. I appreciate the tip though.

i dont think its the sequencer i think you are operating more immediately and responsively with the physical abbility and that`s the interest. when i use my keystep pro with mpc sampled stuff emergent magic happens too its like a peripheral access thing more than what was designed for....what certain sections of us need from Akai is the keyboard based MPC with step sequencer functionality at out finger tipss. its coming i`m sure, i see it as an arranger too like the force. but one we do want to keep and use live. lol i feel like all my future band members will all be individual MPC`s in their own right. hahaha

This music would have to be sampled on a different machine and then imported to the Rytm MK1 via Transfer app. Once imported you can fiddle with it like in this great video. Hope this helps 🙂
