Analogue makes a digital analog converter (DAC) for their systems
@8bitjoystick
@8bitjoystick Жыл бұрын
Honestly, I did not know that at the time. But their DAC is $80 in addition to whatever HD-15 to Component, S-Video or what analog video connection you are going for. I dunno Hyperkin puts optional analog output on all of their system out of the box in addition to HDMI. I mean I get that they are going after the folks who have PVMs but personally I am a fan of the free to $50 CRT that you find on an online marketplace. I also help run a Facebook group for people looking to find CRT TVs and have a soft spot for analog video when it comes to 8-bit and 16-bit games. I'll have to do more videos on CRT gaming soon.
@grafxgear
@grafxgear Жыл бұрын
@@8bitjoystick I disagree. I believe Analog are concerned about lag first. Their system introduces as little lag as possible between the CPU and the output of the DAC. I don't think Hyperkin can make that same claim.
@8bitjoystick
@8bitjoystick Жыл бұрын
@@grafxgear The analog AV output from my Hyperkin Retron 3HD and Retron 1HD are without lag but that is in part to them being hardware clone systems rather than software emulators like the Retron 5. Hyperkin Retron 3HD and Retron 1HD are both cheaper and what I would consider to be "Mid Tier" gaming solutions. Analogue is clearing going for the high-end top tier market. I mean I paid $75 and was on a wait list for months for my HD Retrovision Component Cables I bet they are figuring that CRT nerds who are into high end stuff are not going to balk and another $80 in hardware, for a DAC I think they are right.

@@8bitjoystick They wont. I actually have 2 DACs and panned to get a 3rd. but I still believe the retron has some lag on the hdmi output where Analogue has implemented different options to minimize this.

I have never owned PC engine or Turbo Graphx hardware until recently. I bought the Turbo Mini off Amazon when they were available. I absolutely love it. Then I wanted to play more of the library. I imported a PC Engine Core Graphx 2 from Japan. I also bought the Everdrive. I couldn't be happier with my purchase. I had a lot of fun discovering what I missed out on in the '90s. Very cool console.

Well You are very wise to keep them. I only have a handful of PC engine hucard games. Optical drive emulation and flashcards works for me because I want instant access to some of the very rare obscure stuff, but there's just something about having a physical cartridge or disc. I have Street fighter 2 for PC-Engine complete and box. That's the one game that I have and I love having all of the stuff for it.

I have an original US TurboDuo (as well as the OG TG) that has had its caps replaced (twice) and with several mods. I have a fair collection of games and will continue to buy games, albeit at a slower pace given the prices of some games. That said, I still pre-ordered two Analogue Duos - a black and a white. Surely overkill, but I honestly don't trust my old hardware. These are all-in-one units that will help preserve my TG/PCE collection. It's awesome that there are so many options out there for peoples' various needs and wants.

Honestly, ordering more than one is reasonable considering Analogue has short production runs and later versions are sold at incredible markups. After the initial run sells out. I mean when's the next time that you're going to be able to get a "TurboDuo" fresh out of the box? I regret not ordering a Retro USB AVS back during their initial run. I pre-ordered one and it's been over 2 years before the next batch is made. Hopefully I'll get it later on this year.

Good video. 1. I read through the comments and I see you are now aware of the DAC's existence. I agree it is a costly addition but those who are likely getting this already have a SuperNT and MegaSG. And if that is the case they probably already have a DAC. Also for a device that has an FPGa console + an optical CD drive I believe the price is reasonable, considering the MegaSG snd Super NT sold for $200. 2. jailbreaks for the MegaSG, SuperNT and Pocket are available and it's pretty much a known "secret" that these jailbreaks almost certainly originate internally, but get posted anonymously for obvious legal reasons. I would bet money a jailbreak arrives within the first 90 days of the duo being delivered. There is no need to wait for Turbo Ever Drive test. Plus, the PC Engine never used special chips like the SNES or Genesis. Only the addition of system RAM. So, in theory... all ROMs and ISOs should work without the need of an additional hardware device. 3. I don't believe the duo will support Open FPG. The pocket has two FPGs (Altera Cyclone V & Altera Cyclone 10) The duo will likely ship with the same Altera Cyclone V as the SuperNT. There is no reason for the duo to have more power than the SuperNT. With that said, I don't believe it will have the hardware required to support OpenFPGA. 4. I won't fence with you on the legality of emulation or abandonware. We all know what we are doing and you can justify it to yourself however you see fit. I do own a Core Grafx + SHDS3Pro (I still have a SSDS3 as well) And I love the compact size + mega library of games it gives access too. I do wish composite was an option for SGX. That would have made it perfect. but I don't think the Duo is a product without a market.

If I already had a library of TG-16/PCE games then I would have lined up to pre-order one. Again I hope that they have an easy option for Japanese gamers to get their hands on the Analogue Duo since it is my theory that there are more PC-Engine Retro gaming otaku in Japan, than there are Overseas TG-16 nerds. Also I am not sure but they better include a TG-16 to PC-Engine controller adapter since the US and Japanese version use different controller plugs. I could see that Analogue Duo being sold in shops like Super Potato for twice the US retail price if they don't have easy shipping to Japan options.
@grafxgear
@grafxgear Жыл бұрын
@@8bitjoystick Super potato is a terrible shop. I'm sure most Japanese know to avoid that place. Analogue would do better to strike a deal with Yodabashi or Bic (This is where I got my Retro Freak.) The Analogue Duo uses a PC engine style controller port according to their specs. PC engine would be the smart choice as it's smaller and has cheaper and more plentiful accessories compared to the TG-16. I doubt most of us would be sad about not bing able to use out TG16 controllers.

I have a couple original NEC TurboDuo consoles I bought back in ‘93 that I had professionally recapped a few years ago. They work perfectly but I preordered Analogue Duo to reduce wear. I have all of Analogue’s consoles dating back to their NeoGeo CMVS Slim and they’re excellently engineered consoles that work well but none of them look better than any of my original hardware on CRT’s. Recently got the DAC so I’m looking forward to using it with Analogue consoles on a CRT to see how they compare to my original consoles

My friend had a TG-16 Duo that had the drive motor die on him. I think they are going to sell a TON of these in Japan, there are not a lot of high quality clone consoles in Japan and they actually import some console that were made for the US market. The Analogue Duo should've been a really exciting release, but the PCE secondary market is frankly impenetrable. I still pre-ordered one to complete the Analogue 16-bit trilogy and because I doubt there's enough interest for it to get a second production run. But yeah, my SSDS3 makes it entirely redundant and I'll probably never have a PCE library large enough to make it anything more than a novelty. A really cool device that's too late to get the love it probably deserves.
@8bitjoystick
@8bitjoystick Жыл бұрын
At $250 it's actually going for less than a TG-16 mini that I saw at the game store yesterday. I mean if you already have PCE/TG-16 games it makes a lot of sense to get one. For me, I'm collecting for the Famicom, Super Famicom, and Famicom disk system. I have less than 10 PCE Hucards but if I did I would totally get one. Honestly, I hope they have a manufacturing run just for Japan because I think that's a huge untapped market for them because Japanese gamers are buying retro clone systems meant for the US. Believe it or not, the systems that we get here are mostly better than what's currently being sold in Japan.
