Cool Stacey! Enfield is one of my favorite characters in The Case, which is how I see and teach it, versus as a story. I think Enfield IS Hyde, Utterson's Hyde, which is why Utterson is framing/blackmailing Jekyll to make it look like the Edward Hyde who Jekyll refers to in his Statement (which should in fairness be read first!) is the same "Mr. Hyde" who Utterson links to the girl stomping and the Carew murder. It also seems that Utterson has the editorial control on how the case is assembled along with the editorial itself...plus he gets Jekyll's estate, even though Jekyll does not like him or think of him as a friend.
