I feel you missed a key detail near the end of the video during the ukulele part. Tyler steps off stage and in to the crowd and then it transitions in to him being on the street in the blue hue, but now he has some people around him. Maybe this could mean others are also going through these issues and he isn’t alone, or it could mean he has been letting people in to his dark thoughts and past a little at a time or that they represent the closest people to him that he talks about his issues with?
@groovyghostnotes3 ай бұрын
it might represent the whole idea of the clique. we all have our issues. we all have our “blurryfaces.” but when we come together, there’s a sense of unity. everyone has struggles, but you don’t have to be alone :)

Overcompensate can still be recalled in my brain, but next semester was apparently such a dark song that I’m scared to sometimes even recall it in my mind. I think it’s easily one of the darkest TØP songs ever and I have heard and analyzed all their songs. Ngl this gave me the chills, it was so raw in the way it was conveyed

I think the video is about school, but not completely. I think he uses the setting of a college atmosphere to convey the angst and uncertainty that comes with that time of life. It also could represent the time of life Tyler was especially struggling with these things. Additionally I think the clothes he’s wearing in the street scenes is a school uniform. When he says he remembers the clothes he was wearing, it even further supports that he may be talking about an even that specifically happened during high school or college.
@groovyghostnotes3 ай бұрын
yeah, i agree with you. i think tyler is just comparing life to school, like you said. so.. sorta school.. not really. lol

Just a thought: I'm starting to think the Clancy letters from the Jumpsuit mv are a representation of dissociation. We know that Trench is jam-packed with mental health metaphors, and Clancy could be another one of those metaphors. That would then allow Clancy to be Tyler through the "metaphor filter" of Trench, and resolve the canon-breaking nature of the letters.

The song IS NOT ABOUT SUICIDE stop reaching. Tyler literally said it’s about a panic attack. Not everything has to be about suicide.
@groovyghostnotes3 ай бұрын
what do you think he’s having the panic attack about? the lyric “i prayed those lights would take me home” with “hey kid get out of the road” really sold it for me. i’d really like you to explain that without that sort of context.
@TheBlondeClikkie213 ай бұрын
this whole band is built on the message of anti-suicide. we as fans may never really know what tyler and josh went through, but what we do know is that at some point in their lives, they were deeply struggling. let’s just be grateful tyler wrote this song (and many more) about these subjects
@charliecrickman87603 ай бұрын
When did Tyler say that
@mdogg0943 ай бұрын
Tyler has also repeatedly said his songs are rarely about one thing in particular. It’s just basic media literacy to read these lyrics and see the implication of an attempt. It’s not even subtext to the song it’s straight text.
@connorgoodin80653 ай бұрын
@@mdogg094 it’s obviously up to interpretation but I’m gonna go with the guy who wrote the songs literal words lol. I take “I prayed those lights would take me home” to literally mean he just wishes he could be home from college and im a familiar place because he’s suffering from this panic attack. It’s just so weird to me the obsession of “clikkies” to want to make this song about suicide so bad. Like I said up to interpretation but the guy literally said it was about his panic attack
