Have you tried Room EQ Wizard to measure your room any time lately?
Then you've probably noticed that just taking the measurements is one thing.
Although even doing only that plenty of things can trip you up.
But it’s a whole other thing to know what you should look at and actually analyze the data.
That’s the problem Genelec is trying to sidestep with the GRADE report for their SAM enabled monitors.
GRADE basically is an automated room acoustics analysis that you can generate with just the click of a button.
Interesting.
But how good is it?
And who’s this for?
I had a look at their sample report on a stereo setup with a connected subwoofer to see what they’ve come up with.
Spoiler alert: It’s pretty damn good.

Yet another highly interesting video. Thanks!!! I have learned so much from your channel! I'm a long time Genelec user (almost 40 years......) I have tried to use other monitors but they all "failed" 🙂 One of the reason for "failure" is that they don't have GLM. GLM is such a easy to use and powerful tool (if you ask me.....) Loved all information in this video. Great presentation! Here are two things that I always wondered about in the GRADE report and one clarification (room measurements) -The room dimensions it put in to GLM manually - Chapter 6 ITU-R BS1116 compliance I think its a bit strange that the sub woofer is not included/calculated into the frequency response (or is it?). - Chapter 6.3 Reverb time I have difficulty in understanding how the reverberation time in the first graph correspond to the measurements of the room and how this correspond to "Reverberation time RT60, inside limits" percentage.

I bought a pair of 8030A's last year with the SAM unit, and the Grade Report is awesome!

@@rabarebra You will still get 12 reports for free. And please take into account the amount of R&D work that is needed to create something like GRADE. Greetings!

Just wanted to say Happy New Year and keep the great info coming! I promote your channel all the time. I recently got told by a no-it-all that the best position in a room is ALWAY 37.9% (I think that is what he said) into the room and that is just physics and cannot be argued with. The guy says you have no credibility in the acoustics "world" as you have not qualifications and are simply self taught. This means nothing to me, because weather you learn by reading the books at home that those who pay to be be given those same books to read at university makes no difference, the books are the same! Anyway, I just wanted you to know that this guy was being a dick about you.

First a big Thank You for all this information. I come from a pure listening scenario but earn a lot from your videos. At 19:41 you are excited from the "Decay of room resonances" table. You can have a similar plot from REW. RT60 Decay - Genearate - Controls - "Calculate RT60 model" is the way.

@@TheSzyko haven’t tried the 8331s but if you have a smaller room you should be fine!

@@ryanmondak1844 I've compared the monitors and the 8341s consume 3x the energy of the 8331s, but are on the same level in directivity etc. and only a tiny amount more SPL. I think if I wanna get bigger speakers, I'd go for 8351s as the ultimate monitor plus sub.

Hey Big fan of your channel ! I got a pair of Rokit 5 g4 from KRK could you make a video of how to get the most out of them ? I live in an apartment I haven´t found videos about glass windows I got two big glass windows behind my desktop, black out curtains and a big plant. My desk is 120 x 80 cm monitors are about 1 meter apart from each other and the desk is 65 cm from the windows from the window and is centered to the room concrete walls on both sides room length aprox 6 meters 4 meters wide ceiling about 2 and a half meters got 3 unplaced acoustic panels for now about to get six what would you recommend? please help Could we chat somewhere?

They're speakers... same rules apply. Every speaker isn't a snowflake and these are really common type. Acoustics is supposed to be source independent thing :) Google, forums, youtube videos.

12 reports will still be free - you can evaluate a lot of stuff with this amount of reports already.

Maybe REW can "borrow" this report idea for a future release. Be great if it could also then compare reports and highlight things that have improved and things that have worsened when making treatment alterations?

The key bit of information that you need is this is only relevant if you have Genelec SAM monitoring.

The flow and the way the analysis is presented in some of these example reports can applied to manual measurements too as a sort of learning guideline of what to look out for…

@@thematsc It can be relevant to those who are not as "enlightened" or are just starting out -- and prefer to use other speakers and software analysis tools. One does not need a Genelec monitoring solution in order to assess audio performance metrics and implement actionable improvements.
