Raj Kumar is a painter by trade, but unable to earn a living, and unable to pay rent to his kind-hearted but foul-mouthed landlady, Mrs. D'sa. One day unfortunately, she suddenly passes away. The police conduct a post-mortem, and as a result, find out that Mrs. D'sa was poisoned. Raj is taken in for questioning, and is subsequently arrested and imprisoned. But has he killed her?

Well....now understood why Raj Kapoor is hailed that high. Hrishikesh Mukherjee what a filmmaker, this movie is still so relevant in 2022. The flu, the waves, the world, the cunning, the simple, all the same. A few scenes of Lalita Pawar made me teary too.

बेहतरीन पिक्चर। राज साहब और नूतन जी की एक्टिंग का कोई जवाब नहीं है। फिल्म की स्क्रिप्ट, सेट, डायरेक्शन सबकुछ लाजवाब है। राज साहब की यही खासियत है उनकी मूवी में इमोशंस कूट-कूट के भरे होते हैं, आंखों से आंसू खुशी के मारे टपकने लगते हैं राज साहब की हर मूवी में एक ऐसा मैसेज होता है जो आपको जीने की उम्मीद देता है। इस मूवी की यही खासियत है इस फिल्म के कई ऐसे दृश्य हैं जो लव स्टोरी मूवीस में आज भी कॉपी किए जाते हैं अब शायद बॉलीवुड ऐसी फिल्में ना बना पाए क्योंकि ना तो ऐसे सोच वाले डायरेक्टर रहे ना ही ऐसे स्क्रिप्ट राइटर रहे और ना ही ऐसे कलाकार रहे हैं। सलाम टू राज साहब एंड नूतन जी सादगी और खूबसूरती एक अलग ही सुकून देती है। यह मूवी यूट्यूब में चौथी बार देख रहा हूं हर बार एक अलग ही सुकून मिलता है

What a masterpiece , this was made in an era where there were not enough resources, i being an teenager really like this film..there are many small small things which display modesty and how simple and happy life was..this might be a little slow paced but i feel its beautifully made.

This movie was released when I was still in primary school. Though the songs were very popular at that time itself and were familiar, I had no opportunity to see the movie itself. Thanks to KZfaq, after sixty one years, I have seen this movie. It is a film made in good taste. But, from today's perspective, it seems rather quaint, and rather slow paced. The theme is still not outdated. Some producer can still produce a modern version of Anari.

What a simple plot, but so beautifully filmed. What awesome actors. Lalita-ji was so beautiful and so talented, Raj Kapoor-ji so authentic and romantic, Nutan-ji a mixture of great talent and beauty in simplicity, Shubha Khote -ji a bundle of talent and beauty......Lovely songs with such meaningful lyrics and music that continues to live on...the print made it all the more watchable...Enjoyed it. 50s Bollywood movies are masterpiece but people call them bad yeah movies of 80s were cringe type but if you see 50s,60s movies like anari, Awara, Shree 420,Sujata,Do beegha Zameen, Jagte Raho,Sangam, padosan,Chalti ka naam gaadi etc. they are many great movies with social message and entertainment. 😊😊

My all time favourite,Rajsaab's movie ,you can't see him doing acting at all,one can feel Natural reaction . Also great direction by his good friend -rishikesh Mukherjee,and all of above class of Nutanji .switch on &switch off ..means during shoot totally live character and once camera off totally come out from character,all songs are evergreen , specially title song ,and Tera jaana ..worth winning award by Lalita Pawar ji and Raj saab for great acting in anadi
