Despite the inaccuracy of Anastasia living, this was the best Russian-based film I've seen portrayed in animation.

***** Yes, well, it's fiction. You really can't judge a historical FICTION by the fact that the events don't exactly match real life.
@Tigressa101

LordofFullmetal Rasputin having actual power and Anastasia living is fiction, but this is a real event that happened. The Russian Revolution and the Tzar Romanov and his family were real (and did get killed by the Russians; Anastasia too), it's just this portrays a fiction take on it.

***** Yes, darling. I'm not stupid, I KNOW it's based on a real story. But the FILM is fiction. It's a historical fiction; i.e. a fiction BASED on real events. Like I SAID in my original post. Please read the comment properly before responding.

The prologue is my favourite part of the film. TBH, i would have been happy if the whole movie had centred around Young Anastasia's life and her relationship with her grandmother with the awesome prologue scenes at the end. But the movie is great as it is and was a big part of my childhood and still remains my favourite film to date

For those of you wondering about the 'song' that starts at 4:54, I may not know the actual words or translation, but the tune is the opening theme (which is later on exposed and fully developed) of Rimsky-Korsakov's "Russian Easter Festival Overture," which in and of itself is taken from the traditional Russian Orthodox chant "Let God Arise."

Someone provided the actual lyrics on the choral piece, and truthfully, it's inspired by the Bolshevist Revolution. Here are the lyrics (transliteration mine) and the translation (thru liebedero.deviantart & some of mine): Слава революции! (Slava ryevolyutsii!) Glory to the revolution! Много нас убито. (Mnogo nas ubito.) Many have already died. Легче жалеть какогото сытного, распутного. (Lyegchye zhalyet' kakogo-to sytnogo, rasputnogo.) It is easier to feel sorry for any of the rich. Всё напрасно - лучше костёр! (Vsyo naprasno - lyuchshye kostyor!) All is in vain - let the flames arise! Слава революции! (Slava ryevolyutsii!) Glory to the revolution! Много нас убито. (Mnogo nas ubito.) Many have already died. Аhhhhh~~~! Нечего терять! (Nyechyego tyeryat'!) We have nothing more to lose! Свобода? Если бы... (Svoboda? Yesli by...) Freedom? If only... Видит Боже, мы идём к новым местам, эй... (Vidit Bozhye, my idyom k novym myestam, eiy...) To see God, we go to the new places... Слава революции! (Slava ryevolyutsii!) Glory to the revolution! Много нас убито. (Mnogo nas ubito.) Many have already died. Тех, кого надо. (Tyekh, kogo nado.) Those that are left behind we rely on. Во славу революции! (Vo slavu ryevolyutsii!) For the glory of the revolution! Кто выдержит, тот скажет: “Слава! Слава!” (Kto vydyerzhit, tot skazhyet: "Slava! Slava!") Those who can endure, he will say, "Glory! Glory!"

To be honest this song always gets me!! More than the others. I think it's because what happened in 1917 and the Russian Revolution was so sad. Anastasia (who in reality was killed along with her family) lost everything and when the Commies took over and stormed the palace, that haunting chorus just blasts away as they try and escape. "Dont let go!!!" Always gets me man :(

+Peter MacDonough my favorite part of the song is 4:54... it's like very sad but exciting/scary at the same time, very fitting for what was going on at the time during the movie (soldiers were storming and burning down the place she had always seen as home). Also, yeah, the story of Anastasia and the Royal Family is a really sad one. When I was younger I researched it and never understood why the Bolsheviks were so cruel.. they should have just let them go. I know it's not probable but I still hope Anastasia or her brother Alexei survived the ordeal.

Technically the revolution their depicting mostly is the February revolution in which the people spontaneously rose up against the regime and demanded the tsars abdication mixed with bits of the October revolution in which the tsars were taken into custody and later executed in 1918 possibly on Lenin's orders, history is unclear about that, and both revolutions were complicated events that are worth understanding in my opinion

This movie means a lot to me. It is the same age as me and I've loved it ever since. I've never considered it a Disney-rip off and I've always hated when people say that. Although I do get why to a degree at this isn't Don Bluth's usual way of doing films but to me it still has so many elements that stand out to me. Such as the beautiful backgrounds that are made to resemble oil paintings [in a way I haven't scene to many other films do] combined with the cell shaded character with the CGI effects gives the movie a beautiful aspects. And yes I am aware it is not historically accurate. However it got me into studying the real Anastasia, her family and the fall of the Russian Monarchy. And I love the little details such as her mother's crown being inspired off of a real crown worn by her aunt, or how her dress resembles a dress from an old painting of the real Anastasia. Also the film was made though before she was confirmed dead as many believed she survived so you can't blame it for that one. The real Anastasia's body lost for a long time. In addition a women with memory lost showed up with bad injuries. And some of the family members claimed it was her while others did not believe it. And yes it could be considered disgraceful that they took a real family and made it into an in-historical fantasy but like I said I would've never bothered with learning about the real Anastasia in the depth that I did if not for the film.

Yes, that's absolutely right. Because the voice from Anastasia's grandmother was speaking and singing by Angela Lansbury. And of course the voice from Mrs. Pots in Beauty And The Beast from 1991 was also speaking and singing by Angela Lansbury and of I know her also as Eglantine Price in Bedknobs And Broomsticks from 1971, Jessica Fletcher in Murder She Wrote from 1984 to 1996 , Aunt Adelaide in Nanny Mcphee from 2005 and the balloon-lady in Mary Poppins Returns from 2018, the sequel to Mary poppins from 1964.
