I've loved this forever. I think what we have lost today is "melancholy". It's not so easy when one needs it, understands it, and looks round in today's music and novels... to see it's nowhere in such writers as Houellbecq, Nothomb, etc... disabused, grasping for depression and ignoring melancholy. I'm crying! My beautiful mother got me into Abba. She would play their cassettes in the car late 70s/early 80s. This one was her favorite. I miss my mom so much. She has been gone 15 years.

Agnetha n’avait que 30 ans à l’époque, mais sa voix était très puissante. À chaque fois que j’écoute cette chanson. Les mots, la mélodie et sa voix me touchent profondément. Il y a tellement d’émotions dans ce titre.

I will never forget the first time I heard this on my radio. The first five words ( "I don't want to talk." ) caused me to pause, and look over at the radio. I instantley thought, to "Uh oh, this chick means business." as in, this is very serious. As a male, my thinking 45 years ago was if a woman doesn't want to talk but would prefer to be alone with her pain, you know that she is severly wounded. No desire to argue, beg, cry, yell, rage etc. She is too overwhelmed to the point where she doesn't trust her own ability to communcate. Her interpretation and execution was brilliant. Not over the top, but so sincere. Great lyrics, great recording I often wondered how she was able to perform this live with him only a few feet away from her.

I am 56 years old, and this is the best band that has ever graced the Earth. All their songs have GREAT lyrics, and meaning, unlike the crap I have to listen today. I have stopped listening to the current music, and have switched to country music, where it is still somewhat okay with the lyrics. ABBA will always be my best choice for a band and I will be a diehard fan of it.

I find this song really very moving because it is about divorce. I went through a divorce myself and it is really hard. The Abba guys really knew how to write fantastic lyrics to a catchy tune. I was a teenager when Abba won the euro vision song contest with Waterloo and im still a fan and I am now almost 62 years old.

Esta canción fue escrita y grabada antes de la separación de Agnetha de su esposo. Es eso si, premonitoria al divorcio. Décadas después, son amigos, se respetan y recién se unieron para un concierto que grabaron para usar ologramas. La canción es bella. No importa lo que diga. Al final cada quién sufre a su maneras y se recura igual.

Like most ABBA songs, it was written by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus. It originally had the title 'The Story of My Life'. Agnetha Fältskog sang the lead vocals on the ballad, which was recorded the same year that she and Ulvaeus divorced. Bjorn Ulvaeus has denied that the song is about his and Agnetha's divorce. However, he has said that is about divorce in general and the emotions that come with it. He said: "It is the experience of a divorce, but it's fiction. There wasn't a winner or a loser in our case. A lot of people think it's straight out of reality, but it's not." The song put Agnetha in the strange situation of being asked to sing a breakup song, written by her ex-husband, just a short period afterwards. However, Bjorn didn't intend it to happen this way. He said: "I sang a demo of it myself which a lot of people liked and said, you have to sing that. But I saw the sensible thing of course, it had to go to Agnetha. "I remember coming to the studio with it and everyone said, Oh this is great, wonderful It was strange hearing her singing it. It was more like an actress doing something when she sang it, but deeply moving. Afterwards there were a few tears as well."
