There haven't been as hard of a fall that a team has seen since Pitt's men's basketball program. Over the past few years, they've retrogressed from a perennial March Madness contender to the punchline of the ACC. It's been more misery, a different kind from the underperformance and failures of Marches past.
But the question we have to ask is what led to this season? If you look deeper into this, this 0-19 ACC lowlight of a year has been years in the making. This video will (hopefully) explain the situation to you... maybe.
NOTE: This was a bit of a tough one to do. Not only as a fan of Pitt Athletics but because it seemed like my internet wasn't cooperating, either. Maybe it's a sign...

I’m a Pitt alumni and this is 1000% spot on analysis. The fact of the matter is, and I hate to admit it, Pitts basketball “glory days” are over. There are so many things that would need to go right in order for Pitt to even achieve maybe a 500 record. I’m sorry but this team will be fucked for decades to come.

I just stumbled upon this video and I was curious what your thoughts are on the growth of the program these past two years, and if your options on Pitt's future have changed. I personally think based on what we've seen from Capel that he can turn this program around. That being said, this upcoming season will be huge in terms of where the future of Pitt basketball lies.

Jacoby Nixon Sure, but Kansas has had only one good year in the past 25 seasons and they're consistently ranked at the bottom of the Power 5 every single year. It wouldn't surprise me if KU dropped out of the Big 12 and went independent like with Notre Dame, Army, BYU, and UMass. The one question I have with that kind of move is would it fuck up the rest of KU's sports programs as well?

TLOWNSU The main purpose of these videos is to expose how incompetent, corrupt, or just how plain old bad some teams are. If it were strictly meant for the specific team getting roasted, the audience would be much smaller than 129K. Found this video long after it was made. Mostly spot on but the reason the recruiting pipeline dried up had nothing to do with the move to the ACC. The reason we stopped getting recruits from NYC is that the NY/NJ catholic schools that had been so good to Pitt all closed down and Jamie didn’t have as strong an inroad with the AAU scene in the area. In fact, NYC just kinda went downhill with bball full stop. It’s the reason why outside of Nova the new Big East is led by mostly Midwest schools.

As a Syracuse fan this video gives me life. On a real note though, ever since the Big East split a ton of former/current Big East programs are struggling now and it's unfortunate to see. Basketball giants like Pitt, Georgetown, UConn, Louisville, Notre Dame, and even Syracuse have fallen from their glory days in the old Big East (for the most part). God I miss the old Big East, so many memories.....

I was always surprised that Pitt's successes in the Big East never made them a candidate for NBA expansion, something that I'm sure would've made plenty of young Yinzers want to take up basketball. Then again the Penguins nearly moved out of the city due to how old Civic Arena was so what the fuck do I know.

As a WVU fan who just watched us get outscored in the final 9 minutes by Kansas (YET A-FUCKING-GAIN), this is exactly what I needed to lift my spirits. Trashing Pitt's basketball team online myself helped, but to see someone from the city take a big, heaping, Cleveland Brown's style dump on their chest was exactly what I needed to bring me back up. That said, since I assume you're a Pitt fan, when will we see A Couch Fire of Mediocrity: WVU Men's Basketball? Or The Air Raid that Never Left the Ground: WVU Men's Football? I'd love to see you do some college teams and no better team to follow up your own team with than their most bitter rival!

Pitt is starting to comeback, now that they have a coach who knows what their doing. Leaving the Big East is what hurt Pitt in basketball. Pitt left the Big East when the program is at a high point, and it’s just not the same. I think is adjusting to ACC play.

hahahahaha The Big East and ACC (Atlantic Coastal Conference) are conferences in the NCAA (National Collegiate Athletic Association). Most teams in the Big East aren't very good in general or are only good because they're in a bad Conference. It's no surprise that when Pitt decided to move conferences, they lost their competitive edge, especially because the ACC is such a tougher conference.

i never understood why people went apeshit for collegiate athletics. outside of being a student or having family alum there, i just don't get how people actually think it's more watchable than the professional sports, especially if you're never gonna go there or have no chance of going there. there's so little parity in college sports, the best high school athletes always choose the better school: in football, it's always schools like alabama, USC, FSU, wisconsin, and ohio state; in basketball, it's always villanova, UNC, kansas, indiana, and kentucky. cheering for individual players, i get that, but it's really hard to cheer for a team unless your team is a goliath like the aforementioned schools.

Jake Delia it’s the the history and tradition... look up the Clemson’s Howard’s rock, Virginia techs enter sandman, Tennessee singing rocky top etc Pro sports for me at least is watching a corporate empire who don’t care about the fans (fuck you spanos) in college you’re team is more fan run than most pro teams It’s also easier to follow college football than other leagues because there’s only 12 games a year 15 maxim so for people who don’t want to watch a 100 game season + playoffs it’s appealing Finally it’s the idea that every game matters than really makes people go crazy..... to make the playoffs even for a sec team you can’t have more than 1 loss that’s a lot of pressure on every game but the champions deserve it more than other leagues because they have to win at least 14 out of 15 games and the pool of 136 teams makes it a lot harder
@JakeTV370
@JakeTV370 6 жыл бұрын
yeah but the history and tradition is only special if you're a student or a previous student at that school, it just seems pointless to throw your voice for a school that doesn't want you "there’s only 12 games a year 15 maxim so for people who don’t want to watch a 100 game season + playoffs it’s appealing" the idea of having LESS football is actually very unappealing to me but to each of their own i guess "to make the playoffs even for a sec team you can’t have more than 1 loss that’s a lot of pressure on every game but the champions deserve it more than other leagues because they have to win at least 14 out of 15 games and the pool of 136 teams makes it a lot harder" precisely why i think collegiate athletics are bullshit, i never hear about underdogs in the NCAA, it's always the titans of every big conference making it to the championship games. at least with professional sports you can draft up and choose the most touted junior prospect but the most touted high school prospect can pass on your school no matter how bad and desperate your team is.

Jake Delia ummmmm not really I could name you countless teams that have made the conference championship that where not favorites........ the reason there’s a lack of parody is because of recruiting but once coaches leave that can change quickly.... it isn’t like pro sports where only certain teams can throw tons of money at players (dodgers) where other teams can’t do that...... in college every team has the same opportunity to be great because of recruiting Talk to me about traditions when you go to the grove at ole miss and sailgating at Washington that will change your opinion on college sports

"in college every team has the same opportunity to be great because of recruiting" yes but again it's all decided by whether or not the player wants to go there, everybody's criteria is basically based on geographic location and/or how well the school does in developing their players. there's also that things it where highly touted coaches want to go, and they're always gonna go for the school with the best reputation "Talk to me about traditions when you go to the grove at ole miss and sailgating at Washington that will change your opinion on college sports" it won't because i don't give a shit because i don't go to either school although OU has a pretty extensive meteorology department so if i were to choose any school for anything it would be them i guess

Wait til you hear about UMass basketball. We paid our coach more than the governor of Massachusetts but couldn't even win in the A10, and then when that coach left, half the team left too. They were about to hire a new coach, but he backed out of the job HALF AN HOUR BEFORE HIS INTRODUCTORY PRESS CONFERENCE. They hired a different guy, but they still finished 13th in the A10. Our football program's an even bigger joke, too.
