Hi Bryant,we're cousins! My Irish ancestors(moms side)also came from Cork.They're Mcgarveys.Just poor folks who left during the so-called potato blight.The Irish are an interesting people whos blood lines reach into almost every nation.As you know the Irish Love God,and family,Love to dance-laugh-sing,and others who do as well.I grew up in Akron,Ohio.Dads people are Brits from the Southern U.S.A .1st Virginia then to Alabama in 1810 before statehood.Top of the marnin to ya.

One of my ancestors was imprisoned at the age of 54 for stealing potatoes during the famine in Ireland. Incredibly sad to me considering he had a family to feed.

Fascinating information full of useful advice. I live in the UK and have traced Irish ancestors back as leaving Ireland around 1856, now need to retrace their steps after arriving in the UK .. Thank you

These common issues are the exact issues that I find with tracing my Irish family tree! It's so true! Names, ages, spellings are often vastly different! Also place names changed after Irish independence

Not always, but many times, Irish families would name their first son after his paternal grandfather rather than his father.

Hi Francisco! We certainly hear you and will keep this in mind. In the meantime, we would suggest using our Card Catalog to filter records and that way you can focus on a specific region at a time. This article explains how that works: support.ancestry.com/s/article/Using-the-Card-Catalog?language=en_US That way you can filter your results to only include English, Scottish and Welsh records. UK records are generally easier to find than Irish records, as most Irish records were destroyed in a fire just over 100 years ago. We have gone ahead and attached another article with general search tips as well: support.ancestry.com/s/global-search/how%20to%20search?language=en_US We hope your find this helpful and recommend looking at our KZfaq channel to see what other videos we have that may be of help to you. Have a nice day and good luck with your research!

It took me about a year to figure out who my 3rd GGF was... Francis Joseph Murphy (Frank) but I'm not confident that I will go father because the two people I DNA match to, they don't have any parent records or saved records. Strangely enough, Francis Murphy married a woman by the name of Mary Murphy... yes her maiden name. So lots of Murphy's in my tree lol

Thank you for posting this video. I found the Braniff name interesting because my grandfather lived in the bay area and was senior VP for world airways. My mother always said he was good friends with the Braniff president or VP. Can't remember because both he and my mother have passed on. My grandmother's family is from Ireland and ran across different birthdays and names, ie Helen and Ellen. I assumed they could be the same person since the rest of the large family matched but the year of the birthday was off. Now I will revisit that. Thank you

I noticed the surname of the narrator being ‘ Betit’ which isn’t an Irish surname and which I assumed could have originated in mainland Europe. When he introduced himself and I heard the way he pronounced his surname which we would spell as ‘Beatty’ which is an Irish surname. This may or may not be the original name of this mans ancestors. The misspelling of Irish surnames is common especially prior to the 1900s as many of the immigrants couldn’t read or write and were not able to spell their own names. With a heavy accent their surname would be spelt the way it was pronounced.

I was lucky cause my irish roots came to Pennsylvania mining town n stayed there for generations up to my grandfather. I traced back to donegal with a marriage record n birth record in fermanagh 1781. Cant figure the exact date they came but narrowed it to a 10 year period during the famine.

Greetings, Mr. Betit. I am hoping that you may have come across the answer to my question in your experience. I am wondering- at This Point- if my English sir name "Hawkins" became the Irish- or Gaelic "O'hEachains," OR if the opposite is the case. I supposedly share a common ancestor in my paternal line with the ancient, Irish King of Tara- a part of the Ui Niall. Could you help answer my question?

can anyone tell me why when I am looking for Dan the results start with Dennis?
@susanrogers4857
@susanrogers4857 7 жыл бұрын
It's because there were no results for Dan. So, it showed you results that started with the letter D, in alphabetical order. Sometimes you can spot a result that might actually be the name you're looking for, but it was spelled wrong. That's why they don't just show "NO RESULTS" when there's no Dan.

My great grandparents surnames were Hone and they and my ancestors lived for centuries around the Oxfordshire and Warwickshire area and I was just wondering if this means they have any relation, whether distant or not with the Anglo-Irish Hone family who can trace their origins back to Samuel Hone from Marlborough.
