In Türkiye, we coat the anchovies in corn flour and salt, and then fry them with less oil in a large pan. It tastes wonderful, especially when it has less awn.

Anchovies when fried to a crisp after marinating in spices tastes awesome. Served both curried and fried in India but the fried is my favourite, you can just throw 4 or 5 into the mouth and chew they're so crunchy

In Malaysia we eat them quite often. Its sold dried and then deep fried to achieve crispiness. Then its added to 'nasi lemak' our nasional dish which is coconut milk infused rice with sambal(a type of sweet chilli sauce) to add texture. I am not afraid to admit that I fight over the anchovies everytime

Other places have things like this too, but for me this is exactly a Filipino snack called dilis! Most people also eat them with a vinegar dipping sauce. It’s definitely an acquired taste, but I love it.

My grandma used to make boquerones for all of us when i was little. She still finds it in her to cook a meal every day for the family and shes 80 years old. Theyre delicious.

Are you from Spain, because my Italian grandma from Lago Maggiore was exactly the same! She sadly passed away at 89 last Christmas, but she always cooked three warm delicious handmade meals for me whenever I visited. Europeann grandma’s are the best and for some reason they always cook the most delicious foods, that always taste like 3 star meals which would cost 100’s in restaurants (but their portions are huge lol). I’m glad to read that she is still with you and you should spend as much time with her as you can, my friend! Try to learn her recipes from her by cooking together, since she’ll love spending time like that with you + you get to learn their recipes and write them down. Fried anchovies are so good. Theyre crunchy/crispy(depends on what type/size of anchovy), they add an amazing salty kick to any dish you make, and depending on how you prepare them, they could be spicy, sweet, or just salty. I remember snacking on anchovies so much as a kid.

Actually if I'm not wrong, anchovies are pretty popular in Turkey, especially in the Black Sea region. It's translated as hamsi, and you can check some Turkish recipes. I haven't had the boxed type of it but we fry them with some corn starch and it tastes absolutely delicious.

I used to love visiting Turkiye since they have their own very pleasant culture, but at the same time are as well behaved as ppI from the eu. But last time I went there were a lot of syrians or something that were super rude like aIways, and a group of them even attacked me for wearing a cross! Luckily a group of young turks saw what happened and jumped in and protected me, and even invited me for dinner at one of their family’s house as a kind of sorry that it happened (even though it was not their/turkeys fault, they were ashamed that it happened in their city because they said refuggees do such things a lot like in the eu). They were super excited to find out I was dutch since they have a lot of relatives here, and we had a very good time. I wish I remembered his adres so I could send him some good dutch food. But even though everyone I met there that were turks were super nice, I’m kind of afraid to go back and get beat up again for my reIigion by refugeez.

I like sardines, I buy the Nuri ones from Portugal . A bit expensive at $5 a can but delicious. Europe knows how to do things right, just taste so fresh and not fishy. I like having it on some type of toasted buttered bread, raw onions, capers, mustard or hot sauce . Yum!
