At Tall el-Hammam, in modern day Jordan, archaeologists have uncovered evidence of a once thriving bronze age city, destroyed by some cataclysmic event, that they believe is the city of Sodom.

Yall, I'm dying over the propaganda about Sodom's sin being "inhospitality" yet the townspeople literally try to bang down the door yelling, "Hey! We just want to know your guests!" If "knowing" a person has no sexual connotations, then the people are in fact very hospitable. The propaganda machine broke on that theory.

the reason why people think that Sodom and Gomorrah were punished for the sin of Homosexually is that in some versions of the incident at Lot's house in Genesis, it mentioned ALL MEN from every part of Sodom, both young and old went to Lot's house and demanded Lot to hand his two guests over so that they could have ### with them, Lot tried to plead to them by offering his two daughters instead. But the people of Sodom refused and still demanded his two guests. In Judas 1:7 it was mentioned that Sodom and Gomorrah indulged in sexual immortality.

The Prophet Lut (as), wasn’t offering his own 2 daughters. It’s meant the women of Sodom. Lot being a Prophet, all women and men are "sons and daughters." Prophet Lut (as), was an honourable messenger and is free from the immoral actions the Bible attributed to him! Sodom was destroyed because of its practice of homosexuality. Homosexuality was introduced into the world by the people of Lut-none in the history of mankind had ever experienced or practiced homosexuality before Sodom. This shameful practice was the norm amongst this nation, and the entire population engaged in it. They were immensely proud of their conduct, spoke openly about it, and engaged in these immoral behaviors out in the open. La hawla wa la quwwata illa Billah!

It sounds like Soddom was commiting rapes more than it was the actual homosexuality. The verse speaks of how the two visitors were to be raped by the men of the city. Committing about as atrocious an act as possible on guests. A little too much love thy neighbor.

In the story of the two angels visiting Sodom, Lot and his Wife were going to cook the family goose, but it fled to the arms of one of the angels. In Ancient Rome, the sacred geese were considered divine animals and were devoted to the goddess Juno, the queen of the gods. The Romans believed that these geese had the power to act as intermediaries between the gods and humans, helping them understand the will of the divine.

The book of Jasper which is mentioned in the Bible, goes into detail about specific sins of Sodom. Ezekial describes Sodom. Eziekiel 16: 49"`Now this was the sin of your sister Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. 50They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen."

As an apologetic theologian, it galls me that "scholars" interpret the text in their own "opinions." Well, here is mine: Where is the Biblical "brimstone" in this northern city? You must take all text into account. Earthquakes can be very directional AND fire ensues ...but, where is the brimstone?

Very interesting, but the narrator doesn't read the text of the Bible, as it will clearly show how he's misrepresenting the narrative. Firstly, the cities of the plain were not destroyed for "inhospitality" 🤣🤣 and secondly, the city wasn't abandoned by the inhabitants, they were obliterated by an onslaught that was unsurvivable - as archaeological evidence illustrates.

Al-Hijr 15:74 فَجَعَلْنَا عَٰلِيَهَا سَافِلَهَا وَأَمْطَرْنَا عَلَيْهِمْ حِجَارَةً مِّن سِجِّيلٍ (سورة الحِجر: الآية 74) Accordingly, the "city" was flipped upside down.. It's also said (Not in Quran) that Gabriel (The Angel) lefted it up with his wing and put it flipped upside down.. I feel it's beneath The Dead Sea.. Or it is The Dead Sea.. Allah knows best..

In the Quran, there is depiction that Lut and his family were told to leave at night and asked not to look back in a certain direction , meaning the destruction was coming from a one direction, also there is revelence that the ground is going to be folded over to ensure that none will survive and put an end to this unholy society

Sounds like people in cities had absolutely no boundaries, were totally wild, uncontained, forced themselves on anyone & everyone. Struck with blindness means they were diseased. Several STD's cause blindness. "Couldn't find the door, " means no way to escape, can't leave the place they were in. Those diseases were spread throughout the city & had to be stopped. Obviously we know how disease spreads and indeed leads to a catastrophe both mentally & physically when spread. Disease knows no boundaries, but people can certainly fortify themselves, their city. It's the wild & uncontained, reckless, no respect for self, and uncontrolled collision with others that can causes disease. We know scientifically such diseases spreads between people, especially people exhibiting certain behaviors.

What about the remnants of the impact crater just west south west of the city ? It's actually clear as day though the west side of the impact crater is gone meaning the blast was likely directed from a shallow angle directing the impact in a fixed direction.

According to the Bible said the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah were by fire and stones came from sky and this explain the teory of the meteor fell in that region is more close that happened in the two cities of Sodom and Gomorrah. The water of the dead sea used to be fresh, theres quite a few abandoned settlements dotted around it. To answer your question the water is way too salty to desalinate for drinking water. Ive been a few times, its a beautiful place
