Fun fact, the word firmament is still used in spanish(firmamento) mostly in poetic or classy texts... Like the song of the flag in argentina "salve argentina, bandera azul y blanca, jiron del cielo en donde imoera el sol... Yo te saludo, bandera de mi patria, el firmamento su color te dio"

Eretz means both an area of land AND the earth. You can know by the context which meaning is intended. Earth is definitely intended in the flood story. It literally says that the water covered all the mountains under heaven. It was a worldwide flood.

Nothing she said in the portion talking about the picture brought up with the rings and triangles denotes a flat earth. I think that people are seriously reading there own preconceived ideas of the ancient people into the words they said. The picture denotes a globe more than a flat earth.

@ Digital Hammurabi , sorry I missed your life feed , AGAIN ( ikhre^ gu Ha^li ) , Question for Dr Gina : how do you now that ? how do you know what they wrote about was not what we think it was about ? in relation to their advanced science in times where impossible ( i.e ability to build batteries used as mobile power stations to gold plate utensils , e,t,c ) another thing : we do not have a word even today in Assyrian Aramaic words for cars , or trains so we use : Automable = cars , Machina = Train , Makina = Machine e.t.c so why did my Ancestors had words for flying machines such as S^u-s^ar ( a supreme flying craft ) . perhaps they did know earth was not flat , since all spherical data were imposed as disc clay for better use in study or record of spherical map on clay disc for shelving more data than actual spherical clay text , which we did have cylinder shaped seals , texts and even octagon shaped books . perhaps the word : four corners of the world, did not mean earth was flat , rather the four regions of earth ( as of East, West , North and South ) i.e : the Ziusudra account( the flood ) : the south storm rose like a battle from the corner of the world , it charged like like a battle ........e.t.c , I am curious to know your answers to my questions . thank you for your time and sharing your information .

AnunnakiThe1 I’m aware of how a battery works. I’m referring to the Baghdad Battery’s” capacity to generate substantial electricity and other lost technologies that could power the pyramids as many claim. I pointed this out after your pseudoscientific rambling with the username Anunnaki that screams out “I watch Ancient Aliens” and “I read Chariots of the Gods“ and “I follow Zechariah Sitchin” etc. AKA Ppeople who are full of shit. Mainstream science/archaeology etc. aren’t “shitheels” and speaking of them in this manner is so disrespectful. It shows me you don’t know how science works. Archaeologists don’t get paid to just be ditto heads. Making new discoveries is how they are able to get grants and further their research. There isn’t some secret cabal that is keeping “Alternative science“ out of the loop. Any university would love to be able to tout something new and extraordinary. But it doesn’t come from amateur archeologists just looking at ancient illustrations and interpreting it like something they see in the clouds. BTW: if you aren’t into mainstream history; what in the world are you doing here?

Neither the mention of a firmament nor the four corners of the earth are references to a flat earth. You don't magically get four corners by making the earth flat as they still say It's a flat circle, not square. And It's not even clear what the firmament was/is, but if it was something solid it could just as well encompass the whole sphere just like atmosphere does. It doesn't have to touch down in Antarctica lol. Moreover It's possible that the firmament is the radiation belt, or even more simply outerspace itself. It's not a word used anymore, but it has,a connotation of being something spread out and in context has some sort of force to divide waters. We all know that extra physical forces like gravity or the radiation belt exist, so there is no mention of a dome with the firmament. The Bible is not among the ancient texts that support a flat earth which makes me doubt the conclusion that other ancient civilizations did. Perhaps your misinterpreting the information like you are with the Bible.

I would like to offer you drinks in my favorite bar. 25:57 Oh I know hbomberguy. Yeah, he's videos are really good for what I've seen. I may subscribe later. And I also see at least parallels to the racist ideas of past in those ancient alien beliefs. I read somewhere that when the ruins of ancient Zimbabwe were discovered, the German archaeologist back then imagined it could not have been build by black people and that a group of white people had traveled to Africa and build it. 49:35 Now I'm thinking of Steven Universe. I would love to have Dr Konstantopoulos return and compare how people back them dealt with demons to modern exorcism.

Dr. Josh, @4:41 you said " That's a little condescending." Reminds me of a joke... In the 1863 an art theif who happened to be a midget was sentenced to life imprisonment. But midgets were so unusual in England in those times the prisons were not really designed for keeping people of unusually diminuative size. It was less than a month into his sentence when he found a way out. Early in the morning before the sun rose he slipped through a gap between two walls, climbed up a waterspout and toward the most outside fence. In a moment of pride, and knowing he would escape, just as the dawn broke, and as he climbed down the border fence, he shouted out to the gaurd in the tower now far away. "I have beaten you! I have defeated your great walls! Not a month could you keep me bound! I laugh at your high fences and I laugh at you!" And the gaurd sounded back... "That's a little con descending!" @48:45 or so: Levels of Heaven; The word "jasper" sharpened my ears. The Bible has it that the base color of the levels of Heaven are jasper in hue. The lower levels having a glow surrounding them which also is jasper in color. However, the uppermost part of Heaven, the Habitation of God, is described as having an emerald green "rainbow" round about it. I have searched my memory and for all your videos and for all my learning I do not know what color "lapis" is. Would it be some medium green? Now I'm going to go look it up.... nevermind answering. Yes, Doctor Josh, of course you are correct that peoples presuppositional and dogmatic beliefs cause a certain view. Pride also must be summated into that equation. What of a view that does not have these and other conflicts? My presuppositions approaching the text were clichê anti-theism. Neither religious persons nor secular scholars are purposely self-decieved. They have no choice. They have heard no suggestion of a view that permits anything else. This is where I am one strange beast. I expect no one to believe me without some thirty hours of me explaining. I'm happy to do that. Most just get frustrated, though I may be extra gentle toward all, and they simply drop out of the conversation. I am working toward improving my presentation but I am only about seven years old in this. I'll be practicing at Skylar's channel. Great presentation, this video. Thank you for your work.

"Yes, I would like a Who.....................................................................................................per, please, and a large french fries with a small Diet Coke. Gatta' stay in shape for the la.........................................................................dies. Wink wink." Right away sir! The youth replies and sprints off to retrieve the order. Upon delivering the order. And still being alive. The clumsy youth felt brave and asked the grizzly... "Uh.. if you don't mind.. " "Yes?" said the bear. "Uh... when you were ordering you seemed to freeze in time?" "Sir, why." "Why the big pause?" The bear exposes his front feet above the counter and replies.. "Why the big paws? They go with the big legs and big teeth." You're turn!

Bartender opens the cage & monkey jumps out. Bartender takes a baseball bat, hits the monkey over the head with it and the monkey starts giving him oral sex. The guy says “Wow!“ Bartender says “Yeah! Wanna to try it?“ The guy says “Yeah! But don’t hurt me so hard!”

Dr. Josh, Do you hold to anti-supernaturalism and the non-possibility of divine revelation as an ‘a priori’ in your studies, or is your position the result of evidential considerations? Also, this may not be the venue, but “if” God inspired Scripture and the biblical doctrine of inspiration was true, could God not move upon the prophet, utilize his language, and write something applicable to the immediate culture while also transcending the culture for the sake of future generations? Let me give an example where it would be clearly eisegetical to interpret a text in the NT, as you are doing here, by suggesting that “four pillars” or “four corners” means that the text is presupposing a flat earth. In Colossians, Paul refers to Christ as the “fullness” of the Deity incarnō. I’m sure you know that the term “fullness” has significant meaning within Gnosticism in referring to the divine emanations right down to Sophia, who in turn created the demiergos who created matter, which is evil. So, the “fullness” of the divine incarnis is a scandal to the gnostic mind. So, I am sure that Paul was not identifying Christ as the incarnation of all the divine beings of the Gnostic fullness. He simply used the term and poured in a different meaning as a polemic. I can come up with a number of examples to show that “similarity of language” does not mean “identity of concept” between cultures. This is why I think that guys like Heiser and Walton have taken the knowledge of ANE culture (which is helpful) too far in interpreting the biblical text. And so with Genesis, far from adopting the ANE cosmology it is actually a polemic against it. But, I would not be able to convince you, since you don’t think Moses wrote it -LOL! I would just like to hear more of your rationale. Since we came from a similar background and my scholarship pushed me to be more conservative and you lost your faith in Christianity. Peace
@DigitalHammurabi
@DigitalHammurabi 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Kenny, No, I do not hold to an anti-supernaturalism position, though I have not given the position a great deal of thought. I think that your second question, "If God inspired Scripture . . . could God not move upon the prophet..." is probably self-evident. That God that you appear to be describing, I suspect, would be able to act in the way that you are describing. The question, I think, is whether this is the best model to adopt. I don't think that either Dr. Konstantopolous or I would argue for "similar language = identity of concept." This is the nature of genre. If there is a polemic intended in a text, the language will be close enough to relate the polemic text to the text it intends to respond to, while changing key aspects of the polemic text in order to demonstrate its point. As far as Mosaic authorship, I don't think a polemic in a biblical text would in any way necessitate that text having been written by Moses. In the end, I suppose I approach these texts seeking to identify a model that best accounts for the data. To date, I have not found it necessary or beneficial to posit a supernatural origin for these texts. Hope you are doing well! Josh
