Turns out the guy was a huge tesla fan and collector. His hobby was studying tesla and trying to purchase collectibles like his prototypes, a journal, some unfinished patents, a couple bow ties. He had a pretty large steamer trunk full of tesla swag. Over the years the stories became less fantastical and he started filling me in on Teslas short comings. He actually told me it's good to never meet your hero's because they'll only disappoint you. Without him saying it directly he felt he'd been conned and wasted so much time searching for that tesla holy grail. When he finally realized that grail never existed and much of the legendary tesla stories were more like fairytales

I think the tube should be filled with a zero viscosity liquid and have small mass inside which will act as counter forces but friction on bearing will stop it. Levitating it using magnet is a possibility

it depends on how it would work. the wheel could work in a way that it speeds up every time it slows down because some of mechanism that is powered by the wheel itself, and every time it speeds up its ethier faster or slower than the last time it speed up. if that was the case then it would actually take years to verify because only way to know if it slows down is if there is steady decline in average rpm, and even then it would sometimes end up faster than than last average rpm so you would never be 100% sure untill it actually stops.

I always had this idea for a wind turbine when I was a kid that could go on for a long time and used to wonder who else think alike. Not sure if they have put this to use practically already. Enlighten me.

And the big problem with magnetic designs trying for a perpetual motion, ANY drag added will make it stop. Even if it would turn almost perpetually with no drag. If all it will do is spin it really isn't a machine, is it? So perpetual motion or nearly perpetual motion may be achieved, but a perpetual motion MACHINE still isn't likely.

@Rahul Bhatnagar The reason that the wheel even rotates is that the force applied by us is able to overcome the friction force. But we say that friction is the force that stops it because as time passes on, friction keeps on reducing the speed hence deceleration hence reducing the force itself and hence stopping the wheel. Now, if you are trying to say the the motion at every instant is able to get come over from friction then basically you are saying that the speed of the motion keeps on increasing to infinity, but this contradicts the proof given by einstien that nothing can go beyond or even till the speed of light . Secondly, it isn't a law, but a theory divided into two parts- special(about light speed and stuff) and general(about space-time continuum, gravity and stuff). And lastly, I am not the one bringing the law of relativity, it was brought by Einstien. What I mean by this is that Relativity is a proven theory and has been verified from the lunar and solar eclipse to the latest back hole's photo that was taken. And the results have been the ones pridicted by Relativity.So, it is one of the most verified and one of the most powerful theories ever given by man. One of the other theories known as quantum theories tries to also explain the universe in an interesting way. One of its concepts explains that electromagnetism is a force that takes place due to the interaction of photons between protons and electrons. So if the matter tries to travel faster than light, you can see simple maths that photons will have to change its speed to reach either from protons to electrons and vice-versa. Many of yo might raise a comment that quantum theory and theory of relativity do not go hand by and and so we cannot relate them, but you might wanna research that what makes that uncompatible(hint-only the gravitation part). @@yonatanimmanuel2316 electrons are energy, they already exist so you have to use evergy to cause them to be used to produce less energy than it took to move them. Gravity and solar help us to glean energy from another source. Solar energy moves water and wind so we can use those sources, and gravity moves the tides and brings the precipitation down to a lower level, so we can glean energy from that...
