Three stone circles were visited in this video that are located in West Wicklow. "Broadleas" is located just outside the village of Ballymore Eustace in County Kildare. The Athgreany "pipers stones" are beside the N81 road just outside Hollywood village. The term "pipers stone" is used in a least five stone circles in Ireland and are based on the morality tale of people merrymaking on the sabbath day, who pay the ultimate price of being punished by being turned into stone for eternity! This stone circle dates from the latter bronze age ( 1400-800BC). Finally I visit Castleruddery, this is an older circle dating from 2500 BC, it is a rare type of stone circle in that it is surrounded by a bank or henge, some say this bank was to keep the circles energy within its boundary. I also examine the folklore of the Hawthorn trees, which even to this day can spell bad luck at least to those who might interfere with them.
Greetings from Ireland! Welcome to my channel, that is dedicated to the history and culture of Ireland. This is not set out to be a history lesson, but a ramble through some stories you might find interesting about Ireland from an Irishman! Ireland has so many connections throughout the world from the emigration from this country over so many centuries, but those with Irish blood in their families always have a yearning to know more about thier "old country", this is my attempt to bring some of the history and culture they left behind. So if you fancy some tales about horsemen and highwaymen, banshee's and fairies, soldiers and rebels, legends and folklore, saints and scholars, please like and subscribe, I post once per month. Thank you for watching. Ronan.
