People are watching the highlights from the WPT and thinking the professional players are going for outrageous winners all the time.
But actually they are hitting into areas with minimal risk - here we analyse a mens and a womens WPT point to see their choices!
Notice the zones for the volley and the bandeja to see they can put players under pressure without hitting 2 inches from the glass!

Really good video and breakdown! I think it's really interesting to see the normal points from these players because most regular people can actually learn from it compared to all the highlight stuff and cool points so to speak. Especially since most people think you need to kill the ball to get the point but play hard balls with a big margin to error will improve any amateurs game. Keep up the good work.👍

Excellent video Sandy. Really informative. I am fortunate that I get to play with "better players" and sometimes apologise for continually playing safe shots like you have shown, and lots of high lobs, but their response is always the same " that is how you should be playing... especially from the right". The lower the level I play the shorter the rallies often are as people try to finish the point on almost every shot so you have either a spectacular winner or a spectacular error with nothing in between. More videos like this please !!

Great video Sandy. I think it’s important to highlight the risks of changing direction even if the bounce is in a safe area

My two cents Sandy; of course I totally understand the need for reducing mistakes and intentional building points to create the right moment for scoring. I imagine that there will be a change or development into more aggressive play in the next years mostly based on the influence of tennisplayers moving towards padel. That might be connected to playertypes and personal preferences in strategy but a basic and challenging part of the game is scoring points yourself and not waiting for mistakes of your opponent. Controlled agression and knowing your percentages to me is more rewarding than 'endless patience' haha. Your content is the best by the way, I refer to it a lot!

Nice idea! I´ve always paid atention to the kind of shots and the angles, but while you´re watching a match is more difficult to appreciate accurately the bounce distance.

From what I understand, these shots are made to keep your opponents in the back. The balls bounce short enough to let them decide or to hit directly or off the glass but they have no time to go under the net. In this way you can build your point.

Love this video. The one thing I would say from having watched a large amount of lower level padel is that the volleys being shown here are being hit into those areas. And forcing the defending pair to play without stepping into the court to hit those balls. Some of the lower level players will play this volley too softly and allow the ball to hit the racquet rather playing the shot and will allow their opponents to step into the court and play an easier forehand drive of a weak short volley.

Would you say that lobs are a bit of an exception to this? When I play, it feels like lobs should be close to the glass, otherwise they are too smashable by opponents
@ThePadelSchool

Yes, the pros lobs are impressively deep and rarely miss considering how far back they land!

Why not the middle? I would've thought they would aim more in the middle, I do understand there more room, reduce risk?
@ThePadelSchool
@ThePadelSchool Жыл бұрын
They do use the middle. More so in the women’s actually, but the men’s use it frequently too.

The women on the WPT tour certainly play it safe and that's why they need 3 hours for a 3 set match and have countless rallies with 50+ shots. Not my style! 🙂
