I'm not angry. It certainly disturbs me to see how people can react to certain things, but anger hurts the one who feels it more than it hurts anyone else. Anyway, if you are so preoccupied to find an specific reason of why Anderson kissed a woman, who happens to be a pop icon, gay defender and a remarkable human being, dressed as a boy scout, then I honestly think you should watch the video again. It's actually all about making a statement with a sense of humor. That's it.

He has produced dozens of reports for CNN advocating for gay rights and raising awareness for discrimination and bullying. And he reached a huge straight audience with his diplomatic, non-aggressive way which is far more important than someone preaching to the choir or being antagonistic and overly aggressive about it like some activists are.

I have never heard of him until she interviewed Madonna on her W.E. promotional tour in late 2011, on his TV show, but he was very acurate to point out that Madonna has spread freedom of speech worldwide, like México, so i think he is very outstanding of international issues, as few americans

This speech was moving and extremely true... I cant imagine the comments below... I don't want to even look at them.. But I think what we all need to do is (gay people too) learn empathy. Maybe I'm crazy but put yourself in each others shoes. Uneducated people never understanding gays.. Gay people living misunderstood all their lives.. Maybe the perspective is too advanced for a species such as ours. Educate, Empathies, Evolve.

I met Madonna in 1989 in West Hollywood and let me say she is still a class act! and she kissed me too! She has fought for the gay community for years and Madonna, THANK YOU! She really set the stage for Anderson Cooper and many of the rest of us to be who we are and OUT! Thank You Madonna and Thank you Anderson Cooper for moving foreard with the cause!

See if you knew ANYTHING about VITO you would know he was OUT and VERY PROUD of it! I'm not saying he would go to every interview and say 'hey, I'm gay and I'm here to interview you' What I'm saying he should be out and out DOING something to forward the cause. He has not done that. He has been out since highschool. When did you come out to the whole world and sacrificed part of your privacy and safety during travel? Oh right, you never had to. And what does the fact that he did all the above mentioned to do with his late public coming out? Are you saying because he thought it was none of the publics business the dozens of segments and reports advocating for gay rights were somehow magically not seen by the audience?

Saying you are proud of who you are has been a counter move to discrimination and the suggestion or claim that there is something wrong with being gay/black/a woman or whatever in every civil rights movement. As long as there are people correlating homosexuality with something negative, wrong, evil, and there are many people like that in the USA, that counter reaction makes perfect sense.

Really haven´t seen any of his reports advocating for gay rights? Raising awareness - so have thousands of others and actual grass root organizations that have been doing it for decades. So he has straight fans - its not because he´s gay. Activists are supposed to be aggressive - that is what activism is about. Madonna deserves this award more.

He reaches the people that might be voting on gay rights issues (who are mainly straight) and brings those topics to their attention without turning them off with aggression, polemics and antagonism. What's your problem? AC is high-profile, more than most grass root orgs. In turn he sacrifices more of his privancy than any of those ppl ever will

I think the idea is of being proud of who they are, sexuality and all, in a culture that would look down on them for their homosexuality, not so much that their sexuality is itself a source of pride. But the way people use language, that particular message can get muddled a bit.

Why am I self-hating? Making assumptions again? I'm not even gay. And yes, many prominent gays are in the entertainment industry and they push stereotypes. That is why you should be happy that popular men like Cooper are not fitting into that stereotype and are instead representative of a large percentage of gay men who are not really distinguishable from your average straight guy. Didn't you ask for a broader spectrum of the gay community. There you got it and you are still complaining.
